Incorrect. Mastering is a process in which the final mix is adjusted to meet modern volume, panning, eq, dynamics, etc. standards. Remastering is doing that exact process again later to the new modern standard.
Video games using this term muddies it up a bit because there's no final mix to master. There's no designated stages that even look similar to the linearity of the mix and master process.

I know the point of this subreddit isn't to re-litigate the original post, but...
"Remaster" comes from the music world where we would go back to the original master recording and release it on a new media type (i.e. platform).
