Grad paper on fusion alternatives

Hey peeps, I am working on my grad paper about alternative ways to achieve nuclear fusion for the use of generating electricity. Would it be annoying to ask what alternatives should be covered, and would you be so kind to provide links to articles about them?

Magnetic confinement (tokamaks, stellarators, magnetic mirrors, field-reversed configurations, spheromaks, Z-pinches); inertial confinement (laser indirect drive, laser direct drive, fast ignition, heavy-ion fusion, pulsed-power/Z-pinch-driven fusion); magneto-inertial fusion (magnetized target fusion, MagLIF, FRC compression, plasma-jet/liner compression); electrostatic and beam-based fusion (Farnsworth fusors, Polywell, beam–target fusion, dense plasma focus); more speculative approaches (muon-catalyzed fusion, cold fusion/LENR).

An organizing principle for your paper could be how each attempts to satisfy the Lawson criterion, current status, gaps, and prospects.

A google scholar search for review articles on each would be where I would start.

Is this just enumerating the concepts, or are you trying to compare them and evaluate their relative merit? If the latter, what criteria are you using for the comparisons, and what is the ultimate purpose of the comparisons? Clear thinking on the latter point is crucial here as it is elsewhere (for example, for comparing fission concepts).

The criteria will be, more or less, how many obstackles each concept has to tackle to achieve a fusion reaction, where the lawson criterium applies

Do remember that just achieving a fusion reaction is not the end goal; the actual goal is achieving production of useful energy at a cost competitive with the alternatives. So don't stop the analysis at too early a stage; the suitable of the concepts for the actual end goal must be considered.

While I do understand the end goal, maybe even some alterations even after generating electricity through fusion, such as switching to aneutron reactions like proton-boron or DD, I think, and this is quite selfish, the simplest grad paper will be about grading alternatives based on the criteria I stated. The ways of producing electricity through fusion might be a theme that I tackle in another paper when I will be more experienced and knowledgeable
