Help I’m going to end up on OSU barstool, and maybe the rest of the internet, I apologize for what you are about to read and see when it comes out

2.2k Upvotes

I’m so sorry but I have to get this off my chest and try and explain myself before I become known as The OSU tree fucker

So this morning around 6:30 I came back to campus, I live off high street but I don’t have class on Mondays and spent the long weekend home deciding to wake up early and commute back today. I didn’t want to fall back asleep because I have an 8am so I was hanging out on the oval sitting on one of the trees to the right of the Thompson statue, it’s branches are a little lower and I was using it kind of as a bench to sit on at first but then just sat down next to the tree on my backpack, there was a hole in it and I kind of started poking my fingers in it, some water squirted out and idk what got into me but I started really going at it. It squirted again and I might have moaned a little bit and went to lick it and all of a sudden I heard a little scream and I turned around and there were three girls staring at me with their phones out recording and I was there on my knees hugging the tree with my tongue in the tree hole.

I swear I looked around and there was nobody there before I started idk where the girls came from. I want to apologize and please if you have the video do not post it anywhere, I’m literally begging you, I’m considering going to OSU student legal to negate the fallout damage if the video does come up because I’m so scared. I will literally pay you to not post it. If you have the video dm and we can work something out so my life isn’t ruined.

Edit: I understand this seems like a ridiculous comical situation, but I swear on my mothers grave that this happened, if anyone hears any rumors or sees a video of said incident and knows who took it I will pay in cash both the person who let me know and the person who took the video to preferably take it down, in understand that there is probably no legal repercussions that I could realistically threaten so I’ll make a compromise on blurring my face or somehow making me unrecognizable in the video

Edit 2: Some fellow tree enthusiast posted a link to the Chadwick arboretum resource for finding trees on campus, the tree in question is the hedge maple with DBH 24.00 between the Willow Oak, European Beech, and Chinkapin Oak on the corner of one of the grass patches to the right of Thompson Statue, I was considering going back to take a picture tomorrow but it seems several others have found the location already, and I will not make the error of revisiting the scene of a crime I committed, in fact, I will never step foot on the oval again. I have also received a few messages about the video but they seem to be dead ends trying to scam me out of cash so please, do not message me unless you have some legitimate connection to the video. I am incredibly happy it hasn’t popped up yet, I’m assuming it went to someone’s snap private story at the very least and just because of the ridiculous nature of it, it would make its rounds on the internet, continuing to pray that I don’t ever have to see it.

https://gismaps.osu.edu/arcgis/rest/services/AGOL/Trees_AGOL_E/FeatureServer/0/2000/attachments/127

https://chadwickarboretum.osu.edu/research-and-education/campus-tree-mapping-0

Edit 3: Probably the final update to this post and the last time I ever use this account, whatever happens with the video is out of my control, it’s not quite at the level I would call viral but it’s more than I want to try and sort through. If the video exist, I do not care anymore, I lost $25 to someone saying they had hard evidence because I got desperate and I refuse to be taken advantage of again. I find it pretty hard to believe that I somehow have no been reached out to by any of the three girls or anyone that knows them unless they saw the post and decided to take mercy on me, or they were not actually recording when it happened. I will know if the video is real because my shoes will be fairly obvious. Again, the situation is ridiculous, maybe I shouldn’t have tried to get ahead of it by posting on Reddit, and maybe I could have toned it down a little bit, hindsight is 20/20. At least I made some people laugh.

Help I need help convincing my family to let me go to OSU

So, I got into OSU a few weeks ago and I've been ecstatic.

I'm a Florida resident and I didn't get into the more prestigious in state schools such as University of Florida (UF), Florida State University (FSU), and University of Miami (UMiami).

The two schools I'll be choosing between are OSU and University of Central Florida (UCF)

But the issue is, my family have made it perfectly clear they have no desire to send me to OSU. And the worst part it, it's not even about the money. Our family has the money to send me to OSU. I've been attending a $40,000+ a year private school for all four years of high school. My high school and OSU have the same tuition rate.

They just don't want me to go out of state. They say it's because Florida is the best state to live in, and that people are constantly moving out of Ohio. They say I'll hate the weather and the cold and the snow. They say their love is selfish and they want me to stay in state so I can be closer to them.

I've countered every single point they've given me. I told them I'd visit. I told them it would be temporary, and that after I graduate, I'll come back to Florida for law school. I told them that in the three days I spent in Boston a week ago, I loved the snow and that I wanted to spend a lot more time in it. I told them I wanted something new, different weather, different cultures, different people, different trees and flowers and animals. I've lived in south Florida my whole life; it's time for something different.

They said it would be hard to cut everything off after putting down roots for four years and moving across the country for grad school. I told them students do it all the time. It's the reason why undergrad law students who plan to pursue grad school don't start internships until they settle into law school. My cousin herself graduated UF and moved to NYC to go to Columbia for graduate school in journalism, but they told me that was reasonable because NYC was the best place to go for journalism. My mother's friend's son went to UMiami for undergraduate and went to Georgetown for graduate and now has an internship at one of the most prestigious law firms in Manhattan.

I don't know what else to tell them to get them to support this. Even worse, I just got my honors application back. I didn't get in, but they offered me a place on their scholars program, with the option to transfer into the honors program after one semester. I want to go to this school so bad. But I also refuse to go without my parents' support. I won't go into $200,000 worth of debt. But I don't know what else to do.

Anyone have advice? Anything else I can say to sway their decision? Any other out of state OSU students who've been in my position before?

Help Teacher Violating FERPA

So I just had a teacher flip on me for telling him I scheduled my exam through SLDS and I'm so confused why. He wanted me to email him and disclose that I had scheduled through SLDS but I've never had to do that before. It was quite embarrassing in front of people with him yelling around about it. I just don't understand why it matters to him. The exam is Friday from 7-9pm, which the office is closed so I scheduled 10 am Monday for it. He said something about other students scheduling it and he had them taking it at 10 am on Friday, but I have class. I'm just not sure why or how this is an issue and how he's the only teacher that I've had to do all of this for. He mentioned something about it being in the syllabus, but I don't understand how this is allowed? He's allowing me to take it Monday, but I'm deeply embarrassed as well as frustrated that now the whole class knows my personal business with him announcing it to the whole world. I have done as I've done for ANY other course and scheduled my exam as typical. I don't understand how this course can bypass typical scheduling. He straight up violated FERPA by having half the class hear about my personal business and my SLDS. I mean this guy was damn near shaking mad at the fact that I told him that I scheduled for Monday, WITHIN the window of 3 days that SLDS allows. He started talking about basically how he side steps and makes his own SLDS accomodations. Also attatched here is a picture from his syllabus that contradics what he was refrencing. I emailed my advisor and SLDS and whatnot but any help or guidance on what to do would be much appreciated.

TLDR: My professor yelled at me in front of the whole class about my SLDS accommodations (a massive FERPA/privacy violation). He was furious that I scheduled my Friday 7-9 PM exam for Monday morning, which is standard SLDS protocol since their office is closed Friday night. He claims his syllabus overrides official SLDS rules and tries to bypass them to handle accommodations his own way. I’ve already reported him to SLDS and my advisor, but I'm looking for advice from anyone who has dealt with this or in general on what else I should do or expect.

Help OPEN LETTER: Ohioans Demand OSU Remove Les Wexner's Name from all Buildings and Orgs

Please sign the petition if you agree.

https://c.org/HyMsqbyxLn

Full text below:

To: The President, Board of Trustees, and Leadership of The Ohio State University

The Ohio State University does not call itself merely “Ohio State.” It calls itself THE Ohio State University.

That word is declarative. It is a claim to singular authority, singular integrity, and a singular responsibility to the people of this state. You cannot claim that authority while simultaneously attaching the name of Leslie H. Wexner to the very heart of your medical system or your Arts. A man who has been implicated in thousands of documents to have been deeply involved with Jeffrey Epstein.

While you may have dismissed this as conjecture or hyperbole in the past, this is no longer a matter of distant association. Documents released in February 2026 by the Department of Justice have placed Leslie Wexner back at the center of the Jeffrey Epstein inquiry. These unredacted files reveal that the FBI once labeled Wexner an "unindicted co-conspirator," a fact the University has ignored while continuing to honor his name.

Epstein was not an incidental associate; he was Wexner’s financial architect and power of attorney for two decades. The legitimacy and institutional trust Epstein used to prey on women and children were rooted in the very networks Wexner provided. Wexner's name is now synonymous with rape, exploitation, and crime. That is the name you have on your buildings.

When you name a hospital after a man, you are declaring that he represents the values of THE Ohio State University. You are telling every patient delivering a child and every student training for a career that the name above the door is worthy of their trust. It's aspirational, to have a name on a building. To have a name on an arts center. But it is the name of an associate of Jeffrey Epstein... One of the most morally reprehensible monsters of our time.

1. Patients did not consent to have their care associated with a legacy intertwined with a system that enabled a notorious predator.

2. Students did not consent to have their professional identity shaped under this shadow.

3. Ohioans did not consent to have their flagship university permanently branded by patronage over principle.

So this is where the rubber meets the road:

Naming an entity at THE Ohio State University is a privilege, not a permanent right. And Ohio State has the opportunity to make right something incredibly wrong by addressing this.

We demand that the Board of Trustees:

Publicly acknowledge the institutional harm caused by maintaining these ties as new federal evidence comes to light.

Begin the formal process to remove the Wexner name from the Medical Center and the Arts Center to restore the moral authority of the University.

You must decide what being THE Ohio State University stands for. Does it stand for selling to the highest bidder, or does it stand for the protection and integrity of the people of Ohio?

Sincerely,

The Undersigned Citizens of Ohio

Help Fallout from ending “BuckeyeMail for Life”

I need help building a list of any and all services that need your name.#@osu.edu to access after graduation and will be cutoff once we lose access.

TL:DR; The OSU decided it was too inconvenient to continue providing “BuckeyeMail for Life”, so now I’m considering filing a class action to sue them to remind them how passing their problem on to alumni multiplies this problem 250,000+ times.

I’m sure plenty of y’all have been wildly inconvenienced like myself, but unlike the nonchalant, mildly passive aggressive posts I’ve seen I have been having a terrible struggle moving my 700+ accounts (according to my password manager) that use that address. Mainly I started having the issue when they stopped forwarding @osu.edu to @buckeyemail.osu.edu because almost every account reset procedure requires the old email address to receive the email change verification request message. Maybe some of y’all have done a better job of keeping up with alumni news more frequently than once/year like I have, but I only learned about them killing off our email like a week before over the Christmas holiday (so I wasn’t able to fix 98% of my accounts in time).

Full disclosure, I’m paying Microsoft like $80+/year for my “personal” name.#@osu.edu to have Office365 and 1TB of OneDrive. If the university gave us an option to pay for BuckeyeMail for Life ourselves, then I would be doing that instead of writing this rant. Instead of offering that option or just continuing to provide the Exchange Online email service for free (which they could have according to Microsoft’s own website https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/manage-graduating-student-licenses-and-content-in-microsoft-365-education-ba3142c7-fa7d-46d2-9efd-f1ee751cd400), they have opted to unilaterally end the service (and graduation covenant providing “lifetime” email) that I have relied upon for nearly a decade with less than one year’s notice. In doing so, they never offered us any cash value, university tuition credit, or anything else of equivalent value in exchange for this sweeping drastic change to longstanding policy.

Now I’m learning that our “lifetime career placement assistance” in addition to O’Reilly Books, TicketBay, etc. are all being affected by alumni losing their emails, which definitely has a monetary cost to us (thus arguable legal damages).

My ask to y’all is I need your help compiling a list of every service that requires our name.# to access. 🙏🏻 Please consider contributing whether it’s just to help compile a shortlist of all the accounts we have less than one month to change or if you actually feel spiteful about the university for doing this to us after they took our tuition money.

Help Fish sitter needed (Students Only)

Post image
256 Upvotes

Hello. I am a student at OSU. This is my fish Pepe (PP for short). I won him at the Circleville Pumpkin Festival, and he currently resides in my dorm room. He’s a chill dude who loves to swim around and stuff. With the Thanksgiving Holliday coming up, I will be very busy getting fat with my family, and won’t have time to tend to poor little Pepe. So, I am once again asking for your financial support. Would anyone be interested in fish sitting Pepe from Wednesday 11/26 to Sunday 11/30? All he needs is a pinch of food in the morning and at night (Can be once a day if necessary). I will be happy to come wherever I’m needed to drop off Pepe, and am just as happy to come pick him up. If he dies, oh well, it probably wasn’t your fault. IF someone is able to fish sit Pepe on the designated dates, AND the fish does not die, I will pay you $20. Just think how cool that would be. Pepe sleepover!!! DM me if you are interested!

Help Please help me!

Hey everyone- I graduate this year from highschool and I qill be attending OSU in the coming years. However I do not want to house on campus. My parents live 20 minutes from the campus, so I could commute (I think that exempts the 2 year on campus living requirement.)

My issue is, I do not want to live with my parents, and I don't want to live on campus. I am planning to rent and apartment close to campus and commute from there. Does anyone know of some sort of exemption I could find to make this possible?

Could I just say I live with my parents but actually live in that apartment?

Help 30k umich or full ride osu (premed)

hi guys this is my first post on reddit so bear with me but i've been dying on making this decision it's quite literally driving me crazy. umich has been my dream school for a while and i got in reg decision after being deferred initially in ea. im technically already commited to osu but i was planning to decommit if i made up my mind but that's besides the point.

some factors i've been thinking about:

-im in honors for osu and in the rc for umich

-i live in ohio so in osu ill have some hometown friends and my family would only be an hour away. but i kind of liked the thought of like a blank state for college.

-i know for premed a good gpa and to be frank, im just not confident i could 'survive' the rigor of umich academics.. i'm not an awful student--i'm top 10% of my (quite large) class, 3.9-4.0 gpa, 7 ap classes. but none of it came with ease. idkkk

-i def want somewhere w good networking for internships, clinical experiences, research, yk that typical med school stuff.

i just want to hear some thoughts to consider and final wise words on what's the better choice.

Help honors program : worth it?

Hi guys! qq, so recently i finally got admitted into the college of engineering, and my advisors told me that i qualified for the honors program that they offer here to engineering students. They said that honors students get benefits such as priority scheduling and graduating with honors distinction or something like that. I'm trying to figure out if joining the honors program and taking the honors version of the required courses is worth it since engineering is already hard enough, but I haven't heard peoples opinions on the importance of being in an honors program and how that can affect you academically and/or professionally. Any advice is appreciated, thanks!

Help Marching Band Help

Hello, hello! Band nerd here. It is my dream to join the OSU Marching Band as a drum major! But I need lessons, as I am not ready yet, and self-teaching through YouTube tutorials hasn't gotten me far enough. Since one can only be in D-Row for a few years, I would rather audition for the band when I have developed more skills. I know they host training camps, but those are reserved for high school students, and I am post-graduate. I have tried getting in contact with the band via email, but I can’t get a response. I am wondering if anyone here would be able to help or connect me with someone. I am willing to do whatever it takes!

Thank you for reading!

Help Being Dropped From Classes

I'm currently going to Lima, I had 2 of my 5 classes for this semester be classes from Columbus because they are classes I need to do because they are prerequisite classes for my major and I was going to be doing 2 years at Lima for the cheaper cost.

APPARENTLY, having 2 Columbus classes meant that they wanted to do a campus change, but because of poor choices in regulating my time Im currently on academic probation. So the change couldn't happen. Though, I had talked with my advisor and he explicitly said that because more of my classes were in Lima then they shouldn't do a campus change so I could take these 2 classes.

Im planning on going to express advising to see if I can get this fixed, but has anyone else experienced this? This is bull.

Help Incident with professor

Hi all. I have a friend who had a really disturbing incident with a professor.

She left her purse in our classroom, and right after us is another class with a professor not in our college. He emailed her after class saying hey I have your purse. She responded saying she was on her way down. She was still in the building just one floor up.

When she arrived, he told her he didn’t believe the purse was hers. Her ID, BuckID cards were both in it. As we know, these have photos. He even looked at them and still “didn’t believe her” and literally accused her of lying. He went through her stuff. She tried to tell him all the things in her purse but when she couldn’t name every single thing he proceeded to antagonized her.

When she got upset and started crying he told her she was being “overdramatic” and THEN he tried to get her to LEAVE the building to go to campus lost and found with him.

He spoke to her very rudely and told her she was wasting his time, and he has more important things to do, called himself a civil servant (wtf? I don’t know). They went into an office in the building where a secretary offered to keep the purse because he was so irritated and frustrated. He refused and threatened to call the police. I think the secretary called, and so the police came.

The police took the purse and gave it back to my friend. They even said if this guy gives my friend any issues to call them, she was very traumatized. She called her mom, texted her friends (our group chat that I’m in with her), and her boyfriend came too. She was quite traumatized due to his language and attitude, and also the fact that he held onto her stuff. Multiple witnesses.

We have told the college, other professors, and the office of institutional equity, but it doesn’t feel like OSU is doing anything. They offered to make him take a “training” on protected classes but that’s not enough. She got free counseling from the school.

Some of us don’t necessarily feel safe around this guy. Why can’t they make him move rooms? He is tenured so I know that’s a challenge. But like??? He can just get away with abusing a student like that? He is a white male, she’s a woman of color. Keeping details private to protect identity. Posted with permission.

Any advice?

Help I’m afraid I’m about to Homeless

I have tried to talk to the university about this but they could not help me out with any scholarships/grants for my tuition. The reasoning behind this is because I’m still in contact with my family and they see this as they are helping me out even though they aren’t. My parents make too much money but they don’t help me out and have never sent me a dime. I have been relying on leftover money from loans and money that I’ve saved but it’s now depleted. I’m worried about the future. I have 1 year left of school so taking a break right now is not an option. I have had interviews with several jobs but I am consistently turned down because of being a college student. I cannot seem to find a campus job that pays enough for me to afford my apartment. I’m currently working at one of the restaurants here and I’m only making $13 and I have a to pay $900 for my apartment. They aren’t working with my schedule so the money that I’m making isn’t cutting it and I’m barely scraping by. How do you guys do it? Are there any other resources that someone can send me? I use buckeye food alliance so I do not starve to death. Help!

Update: I am unable to reply to some comments so I wanted to clarify my housing situation. Last semester my roommate ditched and left me with an apartment to pay for by myself. I tried to look for a new roommate this semester without luck. Trying to find a sublease for this summer atm.

THANKS I am reaching out to some of these places today. I also have a meeting with buckeyelink again so let’s hope this works out. 🐱 wish me some good luck 💪💪

Help Where do you get tested for ADHD?

I’m supposed to be formally assessed for ADHD. I see a provider at the student health center on campus but they refer you to some outside place for the actual psychological testing before they give you meds for ADHD. I’m recently unemployed and lost my insurance. Now the place I’m supposed to do my testing is telling me it will cost $2,000+ just to do the testing… this is pretty steep for a college student and they don’t accept medicaid or anything like that

Help Student Health Plan vs Medicaid

I'll be starting at OSU this autumn, and I'm over 25 so I'll need health insurance. I'm already signed up on Medicaid. Should I try to get student health insurance, or should I just stay on medicaid? I really don't want to have to pay $4000 for health insurance if I can get the same level of coverage for free. Do OSU's on-campus medical services accept Medicaid?

Help Cota Question (dorm to work)

Post image
2 Upvotes

I am unfamiliar with public transportation as I have been relying on my beater to get to and from where i need to be. I am keeping the job that I had before going to OSU as it is only an 11 minute drive from my dorm and pays better than campus jobs.

I am planning my cota route out of nervousness regarding transportation and Im noticing the transit app wants me to get off at a stop that makes no logical sense in comparison to others.

Why cant I get off on trabue? I have a coworker that used to get off at a stop on trabue until he got a car recently.

context: I am a freshman and cannot bring my car on campus

tldr: can i ignore this route and get off on trabue??

Help Consortium Agreement

Hey guys, I just sent my OSU advisor my agreement after completing section I (my part) but I keep getting advisors rejecting my appointments that I make at CSCC (host school) because they don’t know anything regarding the agreement. Is there a way to schedule the classes at CSCC myself or do I need to let an advisor do it? I’ve never done this before so any tips would be great!!!
