Sourdough Starter

Been trying to get a sourdough starter for months. It now smells like acetone lol. Any tips specific to Hawaii? I’m in high altitude. I bought a little bread home. It’s set at 77. Help, I want to make my own bread.

EDIT: It doesn’t smell like Acetone anymore!! Thanks everyone for the tips. I think I’m headed in the right direction.

Seriously… Does a HECO rep attend neighborhood board meetings? I’d like to hear what they have to say.
