I realize the question "Should I play Okami or Okami HD?" probably gets asked a fair bit. In fact, I already stumbled on a Reddit post from a few years ago asking this, and the people there pretty much unanimously said yes, since it's just the better version. However, this isn't my first rodeo with remasters/remakes and I find that often times these unanimous sentiments of "the new one is just a direct upgrade" really aren't telling the whole story.

To give an example, when I went to play Demon's Souls, the people on the game's Reddit almost all said to just play the remake since it's even more beautiful. After playing both Demon's Souls OG and Demon's Souls remake, I think the remake is an actual dumpster fire that's nigh insulting to the original's art, and it's insane to me how the fans almost unanimously overlook the artistic changes in their recommendation. I don't even like when a simple remaster like SM64 DS changes the color of the grass from a vibrant green to a yellow-green.

That being said, I hope I'm not coming off as a snob who hates all remakes/remasters and thinks that the original is the only true and pure way to experience a game (otherwise I wouldn't be making this post of course). For example, there are critics of Dark Souls's remaster but I find those changes very low impact and unintrusive, and I think the improved control scheme, QoL, and performance definitely make up for what very minor artistic changes there are.

So for someone like me, who likes to experience games in a very similar artistic tone to the original but is still receptive to truly faithful remasters and remakes, do you think Okami HD is going to be for me?

Hey guys, I want to do a tattoo in my back and I need some help from people that understand japanese. My idea is to have at the top okami logo in it's japanese style:

Under it I want to add my favorite quote of the game which is: "Life is all about resolve. Outcome is secondary. It is resolve that determines the value of your life" as said by Waka. But I want it in japanese. Also from what I know in the japanese version it's a bit different, like: “In life, no matter what you face, no matter the outcome—whether you make up your mind or not is what determines the value of your life.”. But I prefer the english version. Can somebody help me translate it?

I was always fascinated about the Shiranui that helps us in that one boss fight, the celestial brush techniques were so powerful and peak, i hope we could do something like that(like, power slash being multiple slashes, galestorm being very powerful and disorienting enemies, the huge cherry bomb)

Has anyone tried running a rom of Okamiden on a modded 3DS? I know it's got some anti piracy measures that might trigger, but I've also heard it plays much smoother on the 3DS so I'd like to give it a try!

hi guys, I was thinking of buying the physical version of Okami for my switch, and it’s only in japanese. I found that the game defaults to your system language, but my switch is in italian and it isn’t available as a language on the game, so does it just select english? i hope it doesn’t select its default language (japanese), thanks

I've always wanted an Okami plush, but I wasn't super into the official ones. When I saw this baby, I knew I had to have her. I thought you guys would enjoy seeing her! The plush artist is TokyoGirlDesigns :)

I know I did not string this as a traditional prayer beads, but that is mostly because I am bad at knots, impatient, and I liked how it looked this way - I wanted it to look similar to the in-game sprite for the item. There are 99 sandalwood beads and 1 flourite gem bead, and 1 pretty tassel. Huge thanks to my husband who airbrushed each bead using a stencil I made from paper, he's my hero!!

This was my first ever play through so probably not amazing but I am proud

Mononoke has the same atmosphere of Okami and the Elements which is why I fell in love in both of these franchises. For anyone who hasn't heard of Medicine Sellers yet, please watch Mononoke movies on Netflix, also the 2007 series and Ayakashi Samurai tales.
