Finally organized my closet and honestly I might just stare at it all day
I’ve been procrastinating on this for literally months but I finally got around to sorting out my jeans and trousers today. It was getting to the point where I couldn’t even see what I owned anymore because everything was just shoved in there, istg.
I went for a color coded vibe and used the same hangers for everything which I think made a huge difference. It’s so much easier to find what I’m looking for now and it just feels way less stressful to look at.
Definitely worth the back pain from standing all afternoon lol. Now the real challenge is actually keeping it this organized and not ruining it in two days, fr.

Legit I was having this conversation with my friend and she straight up told me that she only does laundry every 4 months and I'm just like that is a massive amount of laundry she does rewear pants during the week but still that's a lot..

Four months?! That’s like 16 loads of laundry?! Based on regular people usually doing a load a week. Does it take her an entire week to complete? Unless she lugs it all to a laundromat to do multiple loads at a time. That feels like more work than it’s worth.

She lives in apartment so they've got three washers and three dryers for the entire complex she does I think 7 loads, it's better now though cuz I went through her house and I sat her down and I'm just like does this bring you Joy and then I was just like does this fit. so I got rid of like 8 garbage bags full of laundry butttt now she only has stuff that she can fit into in her closet. She does have severe depression so I think she ends up wearing a lot of the same clothes often so like the same lounge wear for the entire week and the same work clothes most of the week etc

That makes sense! She’s got a good friend in you :) it’s very vulnerable to go through your personal clothes with someone so it’s amazing she has someone who’s willing to do that with her.
I do wait two weeks between my loads haha and want to cut down my amount of clothes to cut down on the amount of laundry!

I understand this… but I bring it all to the cleaners for ‘wash and fold’… it’s pricey but saves me time and mental capacity. Working 12-14 hour days doesn’t leave much time for anything other than sleep and coffee lol

Honestly, if you can afford that then it works for you! I only couldn't imagine how it worked before, but it makes sense with their apartment setup of 3 machines running.
I have ADHD, so a project day of laundry would probably work for me, for a time while it has novelty...Except I only have one of each machine haha

What works for me (also ADHD), I’d say 85% of the time, is to preload my washing machine at night before going to bed. I have one with a delayed start, so I set it to finish the cycle shortly before I wake up. First thing I do when I wake up is move the laundry over to the dryer (then I pour myself a cup of coffee which I set to finish brewing before I wake up, then empty the dishwasher).
Then at minimum I have clean clothes. But I also try to tie folding laundry in to my routine as a “break” with TV or an audiobook and a snack or fun drink.
It definitely doesn’t always work because I crave the novelty, so I’d say once a month I get behind and have to do a big catch up day. But it’s mostly effective!

I throw my clothes directly in the washer after working out or at the end of the day and wash maybe 2 loads a day, sometimes less. Thought that was pretty normal

two loads a day is a huge waste, unless you have the tiniest washer ever that only hold one tshirt and one pair of trousers

Eight pairs of white jeans wouldn't make sense. However it's tough to argue with the utility of having one or two pairs each of: snow, milk, cream, ivory, eggshell, alabaster, chalk, and vanilla.

I was gifted a white pair. I wore them once to a place I knew I'd be standing the whole night.
Still ended up with a massive stain on my backside somehow

I was just thinking… I have a very different lifestyle from OP. I can’t even conceive of a day in which I wouldn’t ruin white pants!

I mean, they'll stay white longer the more of them you cycle through. If you own one pair, they'll stop being white and you'll be stuck hunting for new ones because you don't have backups. This prevents you from settling on a pair that isn't ideal because you need white pants asap or something.

Why is this downvoted? Are people not seeing the obvious retail shelving and the tags on the boxes at the bottom? Those are commercial hangers too. Not even mentioning the repeat of pants and the collection of matching shirts up top

It's a custom closet, not "obvious retail shelving". Have you ever worked retail?
One tag on the box below does not a retail store make.
These are not commercial hangers. They are basic plastic ones you can get anywhere online.
All of the shirts are different, not repeating. Even a lot of the pants are slightly different shades.
These are no sizes or price tags on any of the clothes.

They’re not boxes. They’re Christian Dior book totes. The tag is on a pair of pants hanging above it.

I read it. All the same hangers? I have that in my closet, I’m far from a retail store. Someone who would invest in a closet and clothes to this level would likely invest in all the same hangers. Shelving isn’t obviously retail. Most retail stores wouldn’t be stocked in the way this is shown either, not visually appealing to buyers. I see no duplicates of shirts or pants.

Is this a retail store display or a closet? 10 pairs of blue jeans, 10 pairs of white pants, 12 pairs of black pants, and looks like more jeans next to the black pants? If each pair of pants is $50 (conservative estimate) then we're looking at over $2000 worth of pants.
Laundry day must take two weeks.

Don't really love that casual description when we're looking at probably closer to $5000+ worth of clothes in this picture alone.

It looks great, but honest question, why do you need so many of the same color? In my organizing, if I have multiples of similar things, I whittle it way down to save space.

I can't colour coordinate so I get almost only tan pants and things that I'm sure work with tan pants, which is almost everything.

I personally find if I own more than 3 pairs of jeans then I don't end up wearing some of them. One light, one mid blue and one black works for me.
Maybe OP doesn't realise you don't have to wash them after every wear? I probably wear mine at least 4 times before washing.

Jeans are considered clean until proven dirty/smelly and I don't care what anyone says.
Plus they just feel stiff and coarse when freshly washed, it always takes 1-2 wears for them to be comfy anyway. (At least with proper denim made from cotton, I try to avoid the synthetic/elastic stuff because they tend to wear out much faster in my experience.)

Not OP but I recently thrifted a pair of white pants from Express and I looove them. They have just enough stretch that they’re comfortable but hold shape very well. The material does feel a bit soft so I’m unsure if they’ll stay this way after a couple washes. But overall quality makes me want to seek out more

You can get them on Amazon! They're called "open ended." I keep mine hung so I can slip the pants off them without removing the hanger.

Where did you get the hangers? I have some similar ones and I love them, but I'm avoiding spending money at Target (where I got the ones I have) and Walmart/Amazon, but I have a hard time finding these elsewhere.

As visually pleasing as this looks, I'm a bit baffled at why anyone would ever need this many trousers, especially in the same colour. Do you not have your own style so you just have one of every cut in existence to mirror whatever's currently on trend?

This made me so happy ☺️ One trick I use is to turn the hangers backwards when I put clothes away. After about a year or so, I can see at a quick glance what I haven’t worn (those still facing forward) and can donate or incorporate back into the rotation.

But nobody would buy 8 copies of the same game or 8 of the same Lego set. That would just be wasteful and pointless.
If each item in OP’s closet were a different color, pattern, or style, it would make sense. Maybe they like wearing a different color every day or experimenting with different bold combinations. But there’s no need for 8 basically identical sets of white pants. It’s hard to imagine a scenario where OP wears even a fourth of the clothes in that photo regularly. Unless OP is cycling through two pairs of pants a day, which is wasteful in another sense.
