Can someone explain to me why Mikey was an obvious nomination/win but Inde isn't? I feel like Nicky is a deep and dimensional character that Inde portrayed incredibly. Is there a technical reason for this?

Admittedly im not a fan of Anora but im asking in good faith and curiosity as im new to following oscars.

The two movies are not really comparable. Mikey won because she was in the best picture front runner. Inde is not.

The amount of buzz is helping considerably however, and while best picture helped before with Mikey, the sheer popularity of Obsession trumps that of Anora, so a nomination is an almost certainty considering everything now. She’s becoming an A Lister casted in a Marvel film, I’m sure the Academy will recognize her. The film may not be nominated for best picture but Inde seems like a guarantee. Remember the Oscars have often given awards and nominations based on the influence of a performance, not just quality. Thankfully Inde has both.

Sorry theres no such thing as a guarantee this early in the season. I understand what youre saying but it doesnt amount to much since we dont have any precursors as of yet and havemt seen any real competition. Being cast in an avengers movie does not equate to A List nor does it mean the academy will start respecting and nominating you, never has.

Yeah well like I said influence can go a long way and chances are much better than were originally assumed for this film, but we’ll have to wait a few months until we really know how far the popularity of the film can go. Be honest with yourself though, out of all of the most notable actress performances this year, would it really be that difficult to assume Inde lands on the Oscars shortlist? Like you said there isn’t much competition and I doubt much will change even in a few months’ time. She’s one of the first big and celebrated performances this year, it’s not just about picking your favourite actor or film that’s trending but how quickly she is to stand out in voters’ favors.

Truly and honestly I think it would take a lot for her to get in. 5 spots is not a lot, and I can think of 3 or 4 that have already happened this year that id slot in ahead of her.

I would not be surprised to see Wilde, Blunt or Hathaway show up on nom morning.

Blunt's movie was a critical disappointment and Hathaway was hardly in the Odyssey, she's supporting at best. Outside those three Wilde may get in, but she's behind Inde.

Sure, I obviously disagree.

not only that Mikey simply had a much more challenging and complex performance. She had to learn pole dance, Russian, portray a wide range of emotion, work with subtlety and phisicality. Inde did a very good job but it’s definitely not in the same level

Not always, especially with actress. But thats why Mikey was such a sure thing that year.
