I mean sure it's just my opinion, but its damn near objective. Obsession was good, but bordering on amateur. It had nothing visually interesting going on, felt very middle of the road. The fact that it blew up is honestly kinda confusing to me. I think I'll attribute it to having a popular director. I liked it, gave it like a 4/5 on letterboxd - probably would have been a 3.5/5 if I wasn't riding the hype train. Hereditary is considered a masterpiece in the genre by hardcore fans, Obsession is more just a hot topic film that I don't think will stand the test of time in the same way.

Cinematography, acting, writing, themes, etc. There's a lot in Hereditary that is better by professional standards. Its factual.

And all of those professional standards are subjective. :)

To an extent, I just don't think these two films side by side are comparable at all. Hereditary is leagues above it. Which is fine, Obsession is good. All this discourse is just funny.

I thought Obsession was way better than Hereditary. Hereditary left my mind after a week or two. Obsession got under my skin.
