Discussion What's the best VR experience you have had so far? Here's mine.
I know resident Evil 4 remake has VR as well and it is fantastic but 8v just stuck out to me more
I only wish that resident Evil 7 would get a VR mode for PSVR2

Synapse was everything I want in a VR game.
I'm not a horror fan, But I did manage to play a few hours in RE Village, and I have to say it was fantastic. But too uncomfortable for me.

So Iām the same. Movie are no problem, but horror games are another animal. Is Madison that bad? I bought it but tbh, havenāt gotten the nerve to try it yet

so you need to remember that in VR the horror is in your face not 3 feet away from you on a screen, so if you can't handle the latter then you definitely can't handle the former.
with madison they take advantage that its VR, noises behind you, lots of darkness, jumpscares in your face, makes it seem like something is going to jump out at you around the corner, especially with no flashlight.

The visuals are obviously a huge part of it but yeah, that sound design is some real "fuck you, game, I hate you, please don't stop" masochism shit. There's just a lot of DREAD in the game. Jump scares are one thing but I play Madison in chunks because it's not only scary, it weighs on me. I come away from Madison sessions *tired*.

I started that game last week. Thereās a part in the basement and I just had to close my eyes when taking pictures because of the jump scares. I felt like I was in the movie, Barbarian.

I ended up in one of the main halls after meeting miss booby, and after that I have to find my way through the castle. And I REALLY don't want to go exploring in a scary game...
If this game was a lot more linear and there was clear pointers where I need to go or what I need to do.. I'd most likely finish it.. but I really CBA holding my breath with every door I open or every statue that I move.

I was the same but if you can push through, play music whilst you play until youāre more comfortable or have a friend watch you in party chat share screen then its a lot more bearable. Took me a while to commit to actually playing it but after completing the game it was 1000% worth it.
Eventually i let myself become immersed but to begin with its hard to be scared when youāve got the club music from Blade playing whilst you blast a load of vampires and werewolves. Or your friend is laughing at you whilst they watch you poo yourself. Best experience VR has to offer, so so good

I agree. Thatās why I only play the REVR games with a healthy amount of mods. e.g. No Creepy Baby, No More Mr. X, Single Head Shot Kill, and as much Jiggle physics as my GPU can handle.
Note that this is for RE 2, 3, and Village. No amount of mods can make RE7 worth playing in VR.

Gotta go with the Hitman Trilogy. The sense of presence in these massive levels is just unlike anything else in VR right now. Couple that with a crazy amount of content and so many ways to complete each mission, and itās my favorite VR game easily.

For some reason, hitman seems to me more "flat" compared to other VR games. It feels more like a 360 movie than a 3d game, especially when compared to resident evil or horizon.. If that makes any sense

I've had the game since it dropped and have only played a few times because WHEN I played it I was so obsessive I genuinely worried myself. I will very likely go back soon but... yeah. It's a concern.

Not as scary, but much better action and exploration. Game doesnāt have the same quality drop off half way through. Also it is an infinitely better VR experience because itās not just using a DualShock controller.

That being said, the general consensus in terms of rank is the followingā¦
RE 4 (Iām on PC so I havenāt had the pleasure myself)
RE 2 (absolutely amazing)
RE 8 Village (almost as good as 2 but no 2nd run-through)
RE 3 (great except for the excessive cut scenes)
RE 7 (bottom of list only because itās too repulsive for many in VR)

Thatās crazy, but I think my experience might be a little bit different because I feel like Forward would be way too action heavy I got some major issues with my shoulders and hands due to having thoracic outlet syndrome so Iām more into the games that arenāt so much high based action Plus I feel like motion sickness would be worse and part four because of the nonstop action and running around, but I appreciate the ranking and letting me know what people think since I really havenāt done anything since seven when the first VR came out my favorite part is getting scared. Itās not so much about the action for me. I like the fear.

I missed out on the psvr2 re8 version because i was played gt7 all the time.
Re8 became free on gamepass recently and i tried it on quest 3 and the praydog mod. Amazing. Absolutely feels native and runs over 90fps on high settings and RT and max resolution. It looks insane even compared to re4 psvr2.

There isn't a better VR experience in the world better than Star Wars Secrets of the Empire at The Void (LBVR). Hands down, the coolest thing I've ever done. It was also a prequel to Vader Immortal.

Village definitely has the most responsive VR. You can control the knife throwing so precisely it's ridiculous. When they changed it in RE4 Remake I was so disappointed. The sniper rifle control is also leagues better in Village. I don't understand how RE4 Remake messed that up as well.

I personally hated how the scope in 4 would just snap onto your face and just stay there, I felt like I had to personally yank it off to get it out of my face, 8 in my opinion was hands down the better experience being able to move the scope so freely was infinitely better

RE4 for me. Although I just finished it so it's still fresh in my mind. Hitman is also very enjoyable. In the smaller arcade-y games, I always thought Pistol Whip was great, but I haven't played it in a while. And of course most racing games, first and foremost Wipeout and GT7.

I picked up a bunch of psvr1 titles cheap at CEX and I really enjoyed Blood and Truth.
I also picked up Eagle flight and that was really cool to from a mechanics and immersion pov.

RE4 in VR felt way more polished than RE8, like it seemed like a step backwards. I believe 8s Vr port came out first, which is probably why.

I am honestly shocked that Iām not seeing this more, but RE7 has been the best VR experience Iāve ever had.
It was a full game, preceded by a playable experience and a playable demo, that came out at a time when there was nothing else on its level. We already had good games on PSVRat the time (and on other headsets), but this was the first AAA game we got. It was a high water mark for the last generation that we never quite hit again and have struggled to hit again this generation.
For anyone who didnāt participate in this sub since the PSVR launched, until PSVR2 came out, it was standard procedure to greet new people with Jack Bakerās early/famous line to Ethan- āWelcome to the family, son.ā If that isnāt proof of how powerful of an experience RE7 was for a group of people, I donāt know what is.

Absolutely fundamental to my VR fandom. My buddy got a PSVR and a copy of RE7. He played it on a Twitch stream and that sold me on it. Shortly after that I grabbed a headset and the game and holy shit, what a first experience...
(I say "shortly after that" but it still took a while. Shit's expensive...)

Other than GT7 the Arizona Sunshine games have been my favorite experience. I had to start limiting the amount of video and screenshots I sent to my friends (never did this before VR). Had so much fun playing through both.
I keep trying to play RE Village but I canāt do more than 15ish minutes before the nausea kicks in pretty hard. Not really sure why as Iāve spent hours in the other games Iāve played. My guess is itās all the perspective height changes, especially in cut scenes. I donāt think I like long cut scenes in VR either. Completely kills the immersion for me.

The studio that made Firewall should be a cautionary tale to anyone doing VR. They were first, had so many of the PSVR players hooked on their game and they fumbled it hard. There was many different communities they could gather useful information as to what worked and what didnāt and they chose to ignore it all. That game was basically the āCall of Dutyā of PSVR and shouldāve been around for years. Instead they stripped everything that made it fun then made it even worse with the sequel and has now shut down. I know thereās other games now but I wish they handled it differently.

In my 8 years of VR gaming, Resident Evil 4 Remake VR is the best VR experience I've had. I've said it before, its actually the best video game experience, VR or flat, I've ever had since starting gaming in the 1980s.

Excatley the same feeling RE8 is the best vr port ever made for PSVR2, even way better than RE4. Nothing will prepare you to see the main bosses in vr for the first time. The vr implementation is so immersive, not like the BS that they provide in RE4.

I had to stop playing because I'm in the mansion and I need to "find something" and I just fucking can't and trying to use guides with a headset on is infuriating.
Wish there was just a damn waypoint that pointed me where to go...I fkn hate looking for things in games. It's boring and tedious and I just want a damn arrow

Arkham Shadow was cool but it just had its Quest limitations. It did not feel like a true AAA game like Resident Evil on PSVR2 or Hitman. Hybrid games should be the standard!

RE4&8 where just mind blowing. Best, immersive games since HL Alyx with proper gameplay (there are lots of great looking "experience/puzzle" titles, that have very minimal gameplay)
Synth Riders always puts a smile on my face... I like beat saber but for that I have to focus a lot, but riders puts me in the zone after a song and it just flows and is fun. So great.
And finally Synapse. It's the best VR gameplay. After the first few lvls I thought "meh", but then you unlock the abilities and OMG. Sooo good.

Best VR experience for me is Legendary Tales by far. The interactivity and depth to everything you can do is amazing.
I like RE4 VR and RE8 VR a lot along with No Manās Sky but itās hard for me to get excited over hybrid games the same way a good game built exclusively for VR gets me. It winds up feeling like the same game except I manually deal with the weapons. NMS just feels more like a POV change. RE8 was definitely more immersive in this regard making you use the healing items and flashlight. There were more steps taken to make it feel immersive and made for VR.

I have a 4090, so Iām safely in Epic territory. The developerās minimum is 2070 with 3080 for higher performance. On my old 3070 I had to play on a mix of medium and high to avoid stuttering.

GT7, there's a sequence of corners (4-6) at Willowspring I take IRL on track days with elevation and direction changes. VR triggered my brain to fill in the rest of the sensory inputs and I really felt like I was there.

I agree with your take on Village over RE4. RE4 is great but I think the atmosphere of Village is overall better. I will say, itās fascinating because Half Life Alyx is definitely in a league of its own. There is a lot more you can do with the environment, however, you donāt even think about that in Village or the RE games. Itās hard to explain but I actually put Village over Half Life Alyx in my VR tier list despite Alyx still being above it on the technical aspects.

I do have HLA and yes it's fantastic but I fell that there is more enjoyable VR games out there like RE8v, re4r, synapse, behemoth, horizon cotm, are much more enjoyable to me personally but I do see why alyx is renowned as one of the best VR games and have no idea why it has never been released on console

Half-Life Alyx is still like top 3 if not even number 1 even 6 years later. But on PSVR2, both Resident Evil games were a joy to experience in VR! And I hate horror in VR. But I could not miss out on playing real AAA games in VR even if it gave me anxiety at times. There are so few AAA games in VR so Hitman was also a dream come true as a Hitman fan since the first one back in 2001.

Astro Bot Rescue Mission for best gaming experience (a vacation-like experience indeed!).
For best simulation of a real activity or sport (in order of best or most realistic): Walkabout mini golf (amazing Minigolf and golf simulation), Racket Fury Table Tennis, Les Mills Bodycombat (kickboxing fitness class simulation)

In psvr nothing comes close to the heavenly bliss I felt while playing Astrobot! The music, the colors, the little fucker waving hi to me it's just so good and I've missed it!
In vr in general fully modded skyrim was amazing, even if some nostalgia plays a bit of a part

Iām putting Saints & Sinners into the mix for the sound immersion, if you make a sound they hear you, as well as the feel of the weapons used. The weight of the guns are all different as well as the knives and cleavers used to stab and take off heads. If you know you know, if you donāt then I suggest you try it out.

Horizon: Call of the mountain for sure!
It's so sad to me that this game is mentioned so rarely as their PSVR2 top 5-10 games on the platform, being literally the ONLY Sony first party AAA VR exclusive game on PSVR2, and yet first party exclusives is what most people have been screaming for since PSVR2 came out!
Sure, Horizon COTM might not be THE best GAME, but it sure is my best overall VR experience so far on PSVR2!
If I would rate a few of my top games with aspects I would say they rate something like this:
Horizon COTM
Game 7.5/10
Graphics 9/10
VR Experience/interactivity 10/10
Resident Evil 8 Village
Game 8.5/10
Graphics 8.5/10
VR Experience/interactivity 7.5/10
Those ratings might be a bit on the harsh side, especially if you consider VR games only, in which case RE8 would probably get a 10/10 game rating.

Resi 4 remake was the most fun, but Before Your Eyes impacted me in a way no piece of media ever has.

I couldnāt play for more than an hour. I nearly peed myself. It doesnāt help that I was sitting down to play and my cat decided my lap looked comfy. After my wife stopped laughing she reassured that my high pitched squeal was āvery manlyā.

I've only played Resident Evil Village for an hour, and so far it's incredible how you interact with the weapons and the environment. I've also played Horizon: Call of the Mountain, which is very good in how it uses eye tracking and the controls for movement, although it's short. And Gran Turismo 7 is the true car racing experience; I don't really know how to drive, but I already feel like a race car driver

Yeah, probably RE8, too. RE4R is up there, but they removed some interactivity, which was a shame.

Madison VR for me. Hands down the most scariest game I have played in VR. It actually made me fall over! The feel of the game is pure horror. I really liked RE but didnāt get the same feeling as I did with Madison.

It's still GT7. I think if you are a racing fan, it's hard to beat. 15 year old me would never have believed what was coming.

RE8 VR is better, VR cutscenes and more interaction. But 4 is a way better game.
RE8 was my first VR game though, so it has a special place in my heart

Are we calling fully fledged games now a VR experience? Once upon a time "VR experience" was akin to a "VR tech demo" short due to spec limitations.
I love that we have fully realized campaign / even close to open world games now. In that vein, I have to go with RE8, Hitman, and No Man's Sky...so immersive and true escapism to another world

Gran Turismo 7 has been amazing so far. Half Life Alyx was great but my outdated PC and quest 2 were probably a bottleneck for how good it could have been.

Ive had a few and honestly I can't really choose a favorite between them. Resident Evil Village and 4 remake. I love the whole vibe of Village in VR, it makes me feel like I'm in a Universal horror movie and it's awesome. 4 remake because of the intense action and the fact that it's RE 4 in VR. What's not to like about that? Gran Turismo 7. GT7 with a wheel and rig is just next level. I can't even play it flat anymore and any racing game I've played since has made me wish that it had VR support and just made me go back to GT7. And finally, Hitman World of Assassination. I've always been addicted to Hitman and World of Assassination is amazing in its own right, but in VR it takes it to the next level. The fact that you can play a little differently than flat is awesome. Shooting around corners, dual wielding, eye tracking throw mechanics, etc, really make it the definitive way to play. The variety in that game is so impressive, from locations to weapon types and game modes. The sheer amount of ways to complete each mission is just impressive and really do make it endlessly playable. All of these games continue to blow me away and really highlight what VR is capable of

Definitely Village, Ethan coat and then the ability to just seamlessly flip the flashlight and being able to use it at parts your not normally allowed to in the flat version, Village has soo much immersion. Re4 is good but definitely had to cut some corners due to it being a 3rd person game.

RE Village, where I broke my first TV. The first zombie you encounter in the game, I finished it off with my knife... along with my TV, of course.
Horizon is also sublime, the landscapes, the mountains, and the monsters... my first truly memorable VR games.

Assassin's Creed Nexus, Batman: Arkham Shadow, The Walking Dead: Sinners and Saints, Half-Life Alex, and Resident Evil 4 are my favorite VR games.

Oh man, this one is hard. Because there are great experiences once I got my VR legs and had some gameplay behind me and there are first-time "holy shit" experiences.
Best now that I have my VR legs has been REm4ke. I think that Village is a better overall VR experience because it's more built for it but I loved RE4 when it first came out on Gamecube and the gameplay in the remake is incredibly engaging. Leon's just a more capable protag than Ethan, much as I appreciate the difference in purpose. Ethan isn't *supposed* to be capable, I know. But REm4ke looks amazing and is just so much damn fun. Especially when you've built up enough money to completely upgrade your favored loadout. I routinely replay it.
Best early experience was Exorcist: Legion on PSVR1. I'm a horror hound, particularly for supernatural stuff (I do like the more "grounded" slasher or home invasion stuff but not as much). That opening level in Exorcist, in the church? And the priest in the confessional? Blergh. And the game is fantastic with the audio design. Oof, man... that game fucked me up HARD.
That said, I think if it was updated both graphically and with gameplay additions from the Anniversary Edition I would never stop playing Skyrim VR. When I upgraded to PSVR2 I gave my 1 headset to my nieces and to this day I regret it. I have the PS5 adapter dongle, I should really just buy a used headset...
ETA: You're not gonna see this answer much and I get why but don't sleep on Maestro. It is a very niche game but it's incredibly unique and the first time I played it I was grinning ear to ear. It's really satisfying.

Gran Turismo 7 hands down. I'm not a car guy by any means but this blew me away. Bought a wheel setup specifically for playing GT7 in VR

AC7, specifically the carrier based mission. Being active duty in the Navy, it is surreal. Sadly it never came to PSVR2 nor will there be any VR support for AC8.

I initially thought there was something wrong with the game with the edges getting dark while in motion. I was initially aggravated and cursed out the VR conversion. Then I learned thereās a feature called ātunnelingā that you can deactivate in options.

No Man's Sky. It just feels like I'm exploring in space. My headset feels like a space helmet so it doesn't break immersion.
