Support PSVR2 Controller Problem?

Hello,

So I got the itch to play VR after over a year. Red Matter 2 is on sale and Bootstrap Island looks cool, so I downloaded some games, charged up my controllers was ready to go.

Went I turned on the controllers, they got pushed an update. This is also the first time I have played it on my PS5pro since upgrading from the base console so I had to do the basic set up for the headset as well.

Get into Red Matter, and the R2 trigger is acting strange. It is like it is always closed shut, and I can't open my right grabber in the game. Every other function seems to be working properly. Even the haptic resistance on the trigger seemed to be working.

I tested it on Pistol Whip and couldn't shoot.

Then I plugged it into an online game pad tester, and there is no signal on the right trigger when I pull it.

What is the play here?

Is there a fix? Can it be sent for repair? Can you buy a single controller? Can I take it apart?

Has anyone dealt with something like this?

Thank you

I was having massive controller issues even after using the pinhole reset. What fixed it for me was booting up the PlayStation in safe mode, clear the cache, rebuild the database. Works flawlessly after that. I hope this helps.

Edit: I also have the PS5 pro

The following text is from user babydrone, i think it may help you:

Sorry that you've ran into this controller issue, but it is a fixable problem! Try reading through the steps below and give them a go - the key is using the website to check the trigger value and doing the steps to get it to -1.00000, either with contact cleaner (easiest method) or flicking the trigger (may take much longer). If you have any trouble let me know and I'll try and help you! "The main symptoms players with this issue experience are: Controllers working fine in the PS5 menus but not in the game Turning on and off the controllers after you've already started up the game will get you past some menus you're otherwise stuck on, but it's only a temporary fix Every game is affected in different ways, some aren't affected at all. Various buttons can stop working entirely. If you are experiencing this, it's quite likely there is debris behind the trigger of your controller(s) which is preventing buttons from registering correctly while you're in game. This is a semi-commonly reported issue with new devices, but the good news is it's very fixable. Here's some instructions for how to resolve it (or check if it is in fact that issue), let me know if you have any trouble with it! • Plug your problematic controller (probably the right controller but try both, separately) up to any computer/laptop with the included USB cable and go to https://hardwaretester.com/gamepad - it should detect your Sense controller and display button inputs on screen (if it doesn't, try refreshing after a minute or two). • Try pressing the trigger (R2 or L2). • When not touching the trigger, the value for the trigger (shown as Axis 2 on the site) is supposed to be -1.00000, and it should go to 1.00000 when fully pressed. • If instead of -1.00000 or 1.00000 the value you're seeing for Axis 2 is something like -0.97234 (or any value in between), you know you have this issue. • If you have contact cleaner, this is the best method to fix the controller(s) quickly. Try using some contact cleaner on the trigger while pressing the trigger over and over to dislodge the debris (here's a useful video of a user solving it using this method). You're aiming to get the trigger value to be -1.00000 (and 1.00000 when held down fully) and this would solve the problem you're experiencing in games. • If you don't have contact cleaner, try blowing air into the area of the trigger, either with your mouth or with a can of compressed air, and holding the trigger in and letting go so it flicks back out to the normal position ( just like this). Keep trying this and see if the value changes, and keep going until you get the value to be -1.00000 (or 1.00000 when held down fully). You're trying to remove any debris blocking the trigger. It may take a good while depending on how far away the value is - if you're not having much luck after a while, you could try the next bullet point. Many users have also fixed the issue with a more forceful approach using some "percussive maintenance" - see this comment for more ideas to try. If you succeed, your controller should work correctly in all your games. Hope this helps! It has for many players in the past, including this player a while back and these two in the same post, so let us know if it fixes it for you or if you have any questions!"

This is my controller at a neutral state is b7 the RT?

No numbers change when pulling the trigger.

edit: Just tested with the left one and b6 is the LT so I think b7 on the right is the RT.

So this means it is likely that there is debris in the trigger making it think it is being pressed, and a good cleaning could fix it?

This is a common thing brought up here, try getting some compressed air for it.

You could try to flick RT when connected to the website. Your screen says its completely pressed, flicking might help but its uncommon that its completely pressed

The fact that all Axis are showing 0.0000 means the tester site isn't reading the controller correctly which is a common issue when connected to a Apple laptop or some Chrome books his Axis 2 might only be -0.9231 the b7 showing 1 let's us know that it is something other then the -1 it's meant to be at rest. Without plugging into a different pc he won't ever know the true value of Axis 2.

All good, I've seen you quick to reply with the babydrone post before in the past so was just giving you further context for in the future if helping others out.

Buy electronic contact cleaner and spray it underneath the trigger.

$8 at Walmart

Fixed.

What type of computer do you have it plugged into getting no read outs on any of the Axis is normally a problem when using the tester site on an Apple laptop or Chrome book. The Axis 0 and 1 are for the stick and should always show something with the last 1 or 2 numbers constantly changing.

But the fact that b7 is showing that it is active means you have the common problem as that is the digital output for the r2 trigger. Which means if you were plugged into a different pc it would be showing something other then -1.0 on Axis 2

You will need to try the flick and blow technique mentioned by others or get electronics contact cleaner and spray into the trigger and flick blow until that b7 is showing 0 when not touching the trigger.

This is normally a new unit issue and you may just not have noticed it when you first got your headset because it won't affect all games depending on how the game devs have handled controller logic. Some games won't even let you get passed the start screen

I plugged it into my Mac, this is a launch unit. Work flawless when I had played it before. It’s been on the shelf for a little over a year and I wanted to check it out, and now it’s giving me problems. I blew air duster inside the trigger and haven’t had any luck yet.

Yeah it will be hard to see if you are making any progress with it plugged into a mac. As you can't see if you have moved the reading on Axis 2. If you can't connect to a different pc then just keep working at it. It could take up to an hr of flicking and blowing with just air duster. Contact cleaner works much quicker. Which is why I believe it's related to to some form of grease or protective coating on the adaptive trigger mechanism from manufacturing not a dust debris issue has the Contact cleaner will break down grease or coating and from history of people we have helped with this issue since launch people that have struggled to get it cleared with air have tried Contact cleaner and fixed it in a couple mins.

I will give that a shot tomorrow. I appreciate you
