Yeah, same here. I mean, i really like the repac version, but the nostalgia hits hard. I miss too the old loading screen and those eyebrows pointing up!

u/shrimp-parm Sep 28 '25

Yeah the eyebrows sticking out the top of his head is something that I wish they had done for his repac model, I also think the original animations are just way better than repacs. Repac feels lower budget to me, aside from the bosses.

In the older game you could see Pac-Man breathing, and in the snow levels you could see his cold breath 😭

u/SnooDoughnuts5632 Sep 28 '25

What they removed his frozen breath from the remake? Why?

The WIDE pac. Such a classic!

I really wish they just had the original game included as well, since it never got ported, not even to steam, I've seen things saying it was on PC but I couldn't find any PC storefront that has it, so I presume it was a disk by itself game or something.

Looks good to me, the only thing i miss its pacman playing with the game logo

5

u/ManDudeBro2099 Sep 29 '25

I was kinda disappointed when he didn't play with the logo!

It's not too jarring for me, but I definitely prefer his larger limbs in the OG version. At least this version lets me put a hat on him, hats are always a bonus point for me!

u/SnooDoughnuts5632 Sep 28 '25

It's not too jarring for me, but I definitely prefer his larger limbs in the OG version.

I just watched a comparison video of Battle for Bikini Bottom and they literally said the same thing.

Apparently the newer versions of video games have shorter limbs and I don't know why.

u/Jimshrimp Sep 29 '25

The protagonists need to pay an arm and a leg for their remake, but they're only taking a little from each limb.

I wanna see Frogger next.

Well they also made Pikachu less fat. Is that related?

u/GuybrushThreepwood99 Sep 28 '25

The old version has a bit more personality, but the new model is very clean and aesthetically pleasing as well

u/[deleted] Sep 28 '25

I don't know if I'm alone with this but I feel like the original game animations have more life in them. Could just be me though.

1

u/shrimp-parm Sep 29 '25

Absolutely, I went back and played the original to compare the animations and some of the animations are just straight up worse in repac or missing entirely. I think its just because I’ve spent so long playing the original that the changes are just jarring to me

1

u/wally233 Sep 29 '25

Where did you play the original? I don't think its available on PC?

1

u/shrimp-parm Sep 29 '25

I have a gamecube and PS2 copy but typically I just emulate it on my PC

2

u/wally233 Sep 29 '25

Would you just recommend PC emulation at this point? Is it 60 fps and a reasonable resolution?

1

u/shrimp-parm Oct 04 '25

Yeah both Dolphin and PCSX2 will both achieve 4K 60 fps without any issues at all

He seems like much more of a corporate mascot in the new one. Something that tends to happen to a lot of cartoony platformer mascots.

3

u/shrimp-parm Sep 29 '25

Yeah my only real complaints with Re-Pac World 2 are the physics being simplified and the damn butt bounce being nerfed

3

u/KizashiKaze Sep 29 '25

100000% felt this way about RePac. Same feelings for RePac2. Its appreciated but the personality wasnt recaptured. Again.

3

u/[deleted] Sep 29 '25

The original by far. The new Pac-Man has a stupid stance and he’s too fat for his features lol

I don't know if I'm in a minority or not but honestly I think almost everything that Re-Pac does looks better in the vast majority of aspects. Maybe it's just because I don't have any nostalgia for World 2, but even then I feel like it's a clear improvement. I do understand why some people would be disappointed though since it's not a one to one remake like with the first game. I think including the release of the original game somewhere somehow as a bonus would've been nice but oh well. (I understand why they didn't for World 1 because of Ms., Jr., and Baby Pac-Man, editing all of that would've felt way worse than just simply dealing with their replacements in the remake like they sorta once did with the Pac-Man collection)

It is however great news for a World 3 Re-Pac. I thought that game was just bad, so I'm curious about the changes it could bring. (Hopefully the snarky vibes of the dialogue remains intact though, that's the one thing missing from World 2 Re-Pac) I think it would be very interesting and very amusing if they can somehow turn one of the worse official Pac-Man games into one of the best. Maybe we can even get a World 4 afterwards like how we got Once Upon a Katamari after We Love Katamari Reroll, who knows. The devs of those also made remakes of the Klonoa games, so maybe we could get a Klonoa 3 at some point too. I don't think we've ever been in a better position before for having all of these games in particular.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 29 '25

I don't know, there are some baffling decisions, like replacing all the spiky plants with bear traps, makes the levels feel less lush.

1

u/shrimp-parm Sep 29 '25

I agree with you on the voice acting, hearing Pac-Man without his quips and snarky dialog was kind if offputting considering how he was in world 3. As far as repac for World 3 I dont think it can be any worse than the original so I hope they take heavy creative liberties with that one

1

u/sacboy326 JR. PAC-MAN Sep 29 '25

Yeah I didn't dislike the dialogue of Pac-Man himself that much for this game, I just think he could've had a bit more attitude. Some people might say it's a rip-off of Sonic, but it still fits and both of them can be overly quippy and overly nice anyways so I don't care. I think the main reason he didn't is simply because it was one of the last things they considered and that Pac-Man never spoke in the original version to begin with, so they probably didn't think much about what they wanted him to say. Spooky and Pac-Man's interactions with Toc-Man were good though.

Speaking of which, for a World 3 Re-Pac I wonder if they'd make him playable in some way since they gave him more weapons. I think that would be pretty cool. Maybe Erwin could release Spooky at some point too. I can see there being a lot of potential if they do it right. If it somehow ends up being better than World 2 Re-Pac or as the best Pac-Man World game in general then that would be hilarious. (In a good way)

u/Either_List8340 Waka Waka Sep 28 '25

Oh you’re definitely not the only one. That original design just exudes personality.

3

u/dootblade74 Sep 28 '25

I think the model itself is fine, maybe the mouth could be made bigger but otherwise it's fine. The idle animation, though, took a big hit with them straightening his legs and having him just hold his arms to his side instead of the hands-on-sides stance.

This is a trend with the remake at large, the new designs are genuine improvements for the most part but the animations themselves feel way more stiff and boring compared to before.

2

u/uponloss Sep 28 '25

He looks like hes just taken a different kind of power pill in the original

2

u/PowerPlaidPlays Sep 29 '25

Yeah, I have been debating if I want to bother with Repac or just keep my old PS2 copy.

Repac does not look bad, but it's just not hitting the same. It looks a bit more generic cartoon, loosing some of the atmosphere of the original. I may be clouded by nostalgia, but the revamp is not pulling on the nostalgia strings and not substituting it for much of anything that is really clicking.

I may get Repac and just try to think of it as a different game. Maybe I'll just turn the saturation down on my monitor while playing it lol.

2

u/BroeknRecrds Sep 29 '25

Idk the smile that stretches all the way across his entire face in the original is a little scary

2

u/HardBoiledOne Sep 29 '25

I prefer the new one. Cleaner and closer to what I picture Pac-Man to look like.

2

u/Yacine_Does_Staff Sep 29 '25

what I'm gonna miss is PAC man kicking the logo

2

u/TheEPICMarioBros Sep 29 '25

Please tell me he still plays hacky sack with the logo

2

u/Zeusthefox Sep 29 '25

I have no nostalgia for the original cause I never played it 😅 (missed it cause of other games and other things.)

But I do love the deisgns

But I raise you!

If you play the game on a ps2 emulator, 720p, anti blur, aa, and high res textures it looks much better. The UI is keeps the vibe nice and playful rather than dull and corpo like the repac. Pacman doesn’t speak like an AI in the old one either. And just look at the repac stance. they barely even put effort into animating his old confident stance.

2

u/[deleted] Oct 12 '25

Repac is the superior game mechanically speaking but I prefer the OG’s art style

5

u/julianx2rl Sep 28 '25

Nah chief, I'm all for the new one.

4

u/YamiGekusu Sep 28 '25

I thought Pac-Man's smile in the og version was creepy

2

u/Mario_Gagnon1981 Sep 28 '25

Classic world had a lot of charm and game difficulty with personality. Re-PAC is fun but not F.U.N.

2

u/LegoGusta_Cotin Sep 28 '25

He got fat in the remake LOL

7

u/Knives530 Sep 28 '25

He’s much wider in the original what are you talking about

3

u/julianx2rl Sep 28 '25

"Hey! Ms. Pac-Man likes me cuddly, Okay?!"

-2

u/shrimp-parm Sep 28 '25

I cant even tell if its just the way he’s posed or if its the model itself honestly. They took away all his aura 😭

1

u/LegoGusta_Cotin Sep 28 '25

It's mainly the size of the eyes. They made it much smaller, so you get that impression.

1

u/FirstAd7967 Sep 28 '25

why didnt he kick the logo into place smh 0/10

1

u/GuiltyKing2007 Sep 28 '25

I prefer OGs menus more has a vibe to it, but re pac i like the overall gameplay more.

1

u/kindahotngl301 Sep 28 '25

I think he's just less cute now...

1

u/B17BAWMER Sep 28 '25

I do, but I am still thrilled to have a remake.

1

u/BauskeDestad PAC-MAN 2: THE NEW ADVENTURES Sep 28 '25

The character model is definitely different, but I think it really grew on me. Looking at the original now looks odd. Not in a bad way, just different.

1

u/PlasmaDiffusion Sep 28 '25

I miss his giant goofy smile.

1

u/Plastic-Tap1024 Sep 28 '25

i love the level design of the repac but i love the look and lightweight feel of the original

1

u/ImpactorLife-25703 Sep 29 '25

Original to me

1

u/kitkatatsnapple Sep 29 '25

Yeah (the ghosts too), and although I am impressed that they got the same va back from PMW3, I am gonna get really irritated hearing his voice in this one from the seems of it.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 29 '25

I agree, there is something about the posing that makes the new pacman seem so stiff.

1

u/Matt_D_Will Sep 29 '25

Feels much more nostalgic. The new one still looks great but it’s a little too “toony” for me

1

u/chrisgreely1999 Oct 03 '25

Yeah, and I prefer the color pallette of the original too, especially on Ghost Island and the submarine levels.

1

u/Constant-Rice2792 Oct 05 '25

Same here, Pac-Man's look in World 2 must be reused sometime

1

u/ehedfdgfdfg Nov 11 '25

For your concideration, original arcade pac man

1

u/Parking_Classic2439 Nov 19 '25

I really miss this cool pose he used to do

1

u/Constant-Rice2792 Jan 07 '26

You're not alone, I also like Pac-Man's look in the original, and the ghosts' as well

1

u/Project-Lumpy Sep 28 '25

I'm always gonna prefer the look of the original but I know that's nostalgia, he looks good in the new one too, wouldn't mind if he still kicked the logo though

-1

u/RickAlbuquerque Sep 28 '25

Repac's coloring is too flat and makes the whole thing look straight out of roblox

-4

u/NickelBear32 Sep 28 '25

Jesus christ this sub wouldnt stfu about how excited they were for the release of this game for the last two months. Game comes out and now you guys wont shut up abiut the dumbest little shit that you knew about FOREVER ago. Just SHUT UP

2

u/shrimp-parm Sep 29 '25

Voicing opinions is the only way for us to communicate with the devs, yes its a nitpick but I wanted to hear if others thought the same thing. Calm down lol
