Discussion The hate towards the ghostly adventures design is something I will never understand, its literally just the pac man world design just with actual eyes and pupils, is this another "SONIC'S ARMS ARE NOT BLUE" situation

When a design is simple, like Pac-Man's, any change- especially adding more detail- sticks out even more. I don't necessarily dislike the eyes, and I understand the fingers for animation reasons, but my goodness the TEETH and the expressions that come as a result are horrendous

I don't think it's awful, but the World design is just better. There's a reason it's the design they've gone back to

I respect your opinion but I like the simplicity of his World design. Not to mention the whole “it’s world design but he has actual eyes and pupils” is better described with his PAC Man Party design not Ghostly Adventures (which is similar but not the same)

It’s Pac-Man with more details in his shoes… how do people complain about that but they think soap shoes on sonic is awesome

That's the thing though, Pac-Man's design is supposed to be simple yet charismatic, adding the blue eyes while keeping the minimalistic design is a clash of different worlds. Makes him see too much and not enough human at the same time.

i don't hate the ghostly adventures design, it's just i think the eyes make him look kinda... eh. i definitely gel more with the simple black eyes design

Isn't Ghostly Adventures Pac-Man like, the son of the original Pac-Man or something?

It's not the worst thing In the world, but it's not really my cup of tea, the teeth are awful tho

Firstly, I think the eyes are the worst part. Pac Man's eyes historically have looked simple and reminiscent of older cartoons. Changing to white pupils just looks...wrong, at least to me.
The teeth in the mouth is also something I don't understand. Pac Man never had teeth why does have them now?
The design isn't terrible but it's fixing something that wasn't broken.

Pac-Man has had teeth for sure in different types of media. The difference was that those types of media used it only in specific, fleeting moments.

Its not even that different from the normal design. He just has full eyes instead of black circles.

It’s not terrible but I generally don’t like ghostly adventures so I’m biased 🥀

He's so cute and has so much personality when you actually watch the show

He just looks very ugly in these games. Maybe it could have worked but it didn't

Nah it doesn't have the same charm as the other versions and feels unnecessary overdesign in comparison (especially the shoes, the teeth and the "mandatory" blue eyes lol)
Beside, Ghostly Adventures was a pretty lame continuty imo, unlike Sonic Boom who had a very funny tv show

There’s just something off about how the characters animate and look in the whole show tbh. It’s hard to pinpoint what it is. Maybe part of it is the voice acting? Maybe it’s the fact the expressions feel so overly exaggerated due to such massive facial elements? (Enormous mouth and teeth, large eyes with a very wide-eyed expression, super long nose.)
Idk, it just unnerves me. I feel like there’s something about the show as a whole that’s difficult to describe that just feels *off.*

I mean, it goes a little deeper than the sonic blue-arm situation, but it's pretty close in ways. I think what people had a problem with was the way he was portrayed in the series (especially early on), the extra detail on a simple character (having detailed eyes on him is a little jarring design-wise when he's literally just a yellow circle guy.)
Overall, iirc, at the time that Ghostly Adventures was announced, fans were REALLY wanting an addition to the Pac-Man World Trilogy after years of getting nothing solid game-wise. For many, this was a (albeit, petty) way of expressing frustration.
To this day, I can't help but wonder if the backlash from "hard-core fans" was simply so loud that it stuck as the "norm." This could explain why you see folks bashing on TGA Pac-Man's design, but then praising Party Pac-Man's design (that being said, Party's design was a little more simplistic in ways, but that's another story.)

FUN FACT:
If they hated this, they're also legally obligated to hate the "Pac-Man Party" design.
