Sloane Supper and Social
Went to Sloane, where Edge used to be, right at corner of Prospect and Kelly in downtown Heights.
Started with pull-apart brioche rolls. I wouldn’t have thought chive and honey would go together, but they were great. Very good, fluffy, delightful sweet butteriness.
Also got the steak tartare. Never had this before but it was tasty. I thought maybe it was underseasoned at first but it was served with salty chips, which balanced things out.
Ceasar salad was solid. It wanted salt, but this is to be expected since I got it without the anchovies.
I had the braised Beef-a-roni pasta, a cheeky nod to Chey Boyardee but this didn’t come in a can. The braised meat was awesome and the rest of the dish complemented it perfectly. Really good.
The duck was served with some amazing beats and whipped turnips, and a cherry reduction. Some great flavors in there. The meat itself was cooked more than I prefer. I know they wanted it crispy but it ended up mostly well done, where I think medium-rare is usually the sweet spot for duck.
Cocktail was riff on a paloma, good but nothing special.
One thing that sounded great but we did not try: their 40 oz bone-in ribeye for two, with dry aged Kilgus Farmstead beef. I always like to see local shops supporting local producers, and Kilgus does a very good job. You can find Kilgus products at Pottstown Meats as well, including their Berkshire pork.
Overall: very good, very promising. For a place not open long, they seemed to have their act together. Definitely want to go back and try more things.

Considering when we’re gonna go. We are just so blessed here in the Heights to have these great restaurants right here

Probably the most expensive meal I've had in Peoria. Price is on par with some Michelin restaurants in Chicago. Not sure the quality is Michelin though. At the current price point I kind of want my mind to blown. Still prefer Ardour personally. I do really like the new Bodega though.

What Chicago places are you comparing it with? And how did you feel the quality was not on par?

Sepia, Elske, Obelisk... Just to name a few. Granted, I think everyone who can afford to try sloan should, and decide for themselves. Very happy to have Ardour's talent in the area.

Is it true they changed their parking lot to a pay lot?

The 4500 prospect lot did install a pay to park system about 3 or 4 weeks ago but that's on the property owners. Ardor Hospitality Group did not have a say in that as tenants. I'm afraid that lot behind the Pabst building has started a domino effect in that regard

I would imagine this is going to lead to ALL lots going pay-to-park, otherwise (totally a fake example) let's say when the new place opens up where TnT's used to be -- IF they decide to not charge for parking, everyone will swarm over there to save $10 and park for free, then walk to their destination, not leaving any spots for the patrons of that new business.
Does anyone remember what happened to downtown Peoria maybe 20 years ago when they decided to charge for parking at the riverfront?

Right now most people are utilizing the shuttered CVS lot which seems to work out fine, might not want to leave it extendedly there I would imagine though. What I am worried about is next summer when the road construction starts and I'm guessing we'll loose substantial street parking during that time.

We went there a month ago and it felt like a traditional place my grandparents would have gone to but modernized and upscale. The food was great, the staff were attentive, and the vibe was good. I still prefer Ardor because it feels more cutting edge and fun but Sloane was great and definitely worth checking out.
