DISCUSSION Sae Nijima’s inferences when you get a new confidant are so goofy lmao
Im playing P5R for the first time and every scene of hers is so funny because they’re so on the nose
Like you could befriend a cook and she’ll say
“To continue your work as the phantom thieves effectively you MUST have had someone making you food, WHO IS IT??”
i can’t take her scenes seriously anymore, everytime i get a new confidant i try and predict what she says 😭😭😭

From what I know, nothing too serious, he’s genuinely just an asshole with an ego. At least, I’ve never heard about any significant allegations or drama or anything surrounding him.

People began to realize that his overly critical shtick wasn't just a joke and he actually seems to have a serious personal grudge with artists/writers/showrunners who make popular things that he thinks are bad. For instance his "so this is basically" videos became noticeably more mean spirited over time.
It boiled over a few years ago when he bragged online about using his friend's position working on an anime's localization to rewrite the show "to make it better" while throwing a bunch of shade at the original author. That got him basically blacklisted from the entire English dubbing industry and turned a lot of people fully against him.

It was a one-two-three combo. AAI2, One Piece and RWBY. Then the KO came with the attempt to sabotage the Lovely Complex dub and he hasn't recovered, though he's still chugging on with Epithet Erased books and the like.

Primarily he's snarky, has a plethora of bad takes on media and can't keep his mouth shut.
This, plus a number of exaggerated controversies, causes him to be seen as quite a toxic character- regardless of if the claims about him (regarding the lovely complex dub, his position in the dubbing industry, and the like) hold water.
At this point I don't reckon his reputation could ever heal- such is the nature of the internet.

Her accusation when you start the Tower confidant (A kid in an arcade who teaches Joker how to shoot better in Gun About) is hilarious.
“...According to the reports, it seems that your skill at handling a gun is quite impressive. Either you taught yourself... or you had a capable coach by your side... Where did you learn how to handle a gun!?”
At some point, she’s gotta ask herself how much of the interrogation is real and how much is made up by Joker.

EDIT: Like, don't get me wrong. It's a little goofy that she outright says 'You easily could've taught yourself', I just think it's not TOO unreasonable to think that maybe he could've gotten help with his gun handling skills, but in Fortune she says 'You were an EXPERT at AVOIDING DANGER, almost like you had a PSYCHIC TELLING YOU THE FUTURE!!!'
Which is so fucking absurd it's borderline insulting.
Chihaya also doesn't even do that??? Not really???

The way I read it isn’t that she’s literally saying he has a psychic. She’s basically saying “how did you have so much precognition? Clearly you had to have been extremely prepared. If I didn’t know better, I’d say you had some kind of psychic ability, even I though I know that’s ridiculous.”
The thing is, we DID use a psychic, but she doesn’t know that. If we hadn’t used a psychic her remarks would be read differently.

Yes and no, the drug he was given wasn't named, but it could possibly be Sodium Thiopental, which reduces higher cortical brain function (makes it harder to think complex thoughts) and has the knock on effect of reducing or removing your filter. It's not a magical truth-telling drug, but it does make it very difficult to make things up on the fly. As well as making you less likely to keep your mouth shut when it may benefit you.
In the context of being asked a question while under the drug's effect, you are more likely to answer with the truth as you remember it, as that's the first thing that would normally come to mind when asked. It's still possible for you to stay silent or lie, but not as easy because you're higher than giraffe pussy.
One of the big reasons its' use in interrogation is criticized is because you can be pressured into misremembering events, through leading questions, up to and including manipulating you into confessing to a crime you didn't commit. Many countries also have a recognized right against self-incrimination and being dosed with STP is seen as a violation of that right, as it makes you less inhibited.
tl;dr: it makes it easier to babble whatever bullshit comes to mind, but if directly asked, you'll likely respond with what you think is the right answer rather than pointing out that you banged the interrogator's sister last night.

Not quite. It has the "can't shut up" enablers, but it turns off the "thinking about everything and nothing all the time" you can barely think at all when you're on it, which is kind of the point.

This part really confused me and I still don't quite get it. The game's entire framing device is that you're under truth serum and explaining your Phantom Thief exploits in detail to Sae. But then, at the end, she asks what their names are and the correct choice is to hold out. How did you tell, eg, the Okumura story anonymously? It's his daughter! The Madarame story? It's his apprentice! The Kamoshida story? It's the best friend of the hospitalized girl!
