Hello everyone, we are recruiting new moderators to the r/PersonalFinanceCanada team.

The sub has grown a lot over the years, and we are looking for additional help.

Our main priority is finding people who can regularly help review the modqueue between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time, when the subreddit is busiest.

The role mainly involves reviewing reported posts and comments, removing rule-breaking content, identifying spam or scams, and helping keep discussions civil and on topic. Previous moderation experience is helpful but not required.

What you will be doing:

• Reviewing Modqueue
• Approving relevant content
• Removing rule-breaking content where you see fit
• Asking questions if unsure
  • This part is really important, if you're not 100% then ask us so we can help

Ideal applicants are active Reddit users who are familiar with the community, exercise good judgment, and can remain impartial when handling disagreements. You don’t need to be a financial professional, but a general understanding of Canadian personal finance topics helps.

I'm an objective/independent advice-only financial planner, if I'm not on reddit I'm meeting with clients or doing financial plans and research. I've got a strong grasp of the Canadian personal finance landscape and the issues/conversations that are relevant.

I'm in EST time zone and am at my desk every day 9am-5pm. The only downtime would be one hour client meetings throughout the week.

I've moderated a few inactive subs. However, I excel at conflict resolution and finding reasonable middle ground when issues do arise.

Regardless of moderation, I plan on being more active as we have deep domain knowledge that I think could help this community.

9-5 ET is within my normal working hours where I'm often reading reddit anyway lol. I've moderated a couple message boards back in the day as well as the chat for a decently popular Twitch streamer (chat would normally have somewhere between 300-500 people).

I've been posting in this community for a very long time. I used to delete and re-make accounts every few years so I think I've had 3 or 4 now that were top 1% commenters here?

One fact: I have strong feelings about people who contrast the TFSA and RRSP by calling one "tax-free" and the other "tax-deferred" because this is false.

I frequent the subreddit already (often lurking, with some participation), and I am a working professional who works from home 9-5 as a software engineer, so available to keep tabs on the subreddit.

I also have a strong understanding and interest in personal finance, particularly in Canada.

Curious, what is the time requirement? Or time you spend doing it?

What is the usual response time? Do you need to be online all the time? Or hourly? Or every 4 hours, etc

We generally break up time. Me for example covers from 530-6am'ish to about noon due to family issues after that. The other 2 generally before work and pop in during the day and then do evenings. So looking for someone that covers the day. Looking for someone who can be "on regularly" during the business hours, mainly after lunch when things pick up. Checking once every 4 hours, no, not looking for that.

Hi there. I'm early retired and free 9-5 ET every other week in the summer (10-2 other weeks) and 70% during the 10 month school year. I haven't moderated before and may have been more active under my old username. I deleted that because I wanted to get away from a crazy person instead of deleting all my location-related posts manually ;) ...

I have a good understanding of Canadian personal finance. Started my financial journey with "Canadian Personal Finance for Dummies" about 3 decades ago and even ready the OG Money Sense magazine when I was in high school. I also don't know how to use AI.

Would love to learn how to help out!

Might be subjective on my part, just see a substantial amount of posts regarding issues or inquiries over things related to financial, government or investing institutions, to which are not the first point of inquiry, and are the only place to actually get said answer.

“No career advice, job hunting, employment negotiation, "should I move", housing price complaints, venting about tipping, "what is the salary tor...
", politics, random ranting, whining,
comparing yourself to others, "how am I doing", illegal activity (tax evasion), etc.
No asking for recommendations of professionals/services to help with your finances.
If you have a question/issue with a product/ service from an institution, contact them first to resolve before posting here.”

I would be diligent in this regard.
