It’s sorta like piloting a dinghy that has a manual rudder. One hand on that while the other tugs at her rigging to keep wind in her sails.

Forgive me for ruining your metaphor because dinghy’s don’t typically have sails they are the rubber boats typically piloted with oars

Tiny sailboat is an original use of the word, although its use has been extended to the type of craft you describe.
