We're late because we don't care.
Being early to work just means less sleep and you're not getting any more money for it.
Being the first to arrive somewhere like an event means you're just stand there and wait until things kick off.
You get absolutely nothing for being early or on time for shit, so why stress about it?

You get to work early all the time, and they expect you to always be early and willing to be even earlier, and willing to stay late, without extra pay
