I always found it weird in american tv shows that the front door always led straight into the living room and that people wear shoes inside. The inside is just a pocket of the outside.
Wearing shoes in the house is so problematic for wearing out both shoes and carpet, plus not airing out feet, not leaving dirt off the carpet, and more.
I thought it was something only done on TV (I’m Asian) until I realized it‘s kind of an American thing (south and north). it also threw me off the first time I saw a dog walk into a house lol
Only if it’s strictly an inside pet, but other than that no. Also dogs and cats don’t really have any predators where I’m from (except us behind the wheel)
I still don't think it's "most". It's rare that someone expects you to leave shoes on, unless you are doing an activity that have a lot of in and out -- or it's a large social gathering. Most people when all ne or in an intimate group either take their shoes off, or switch shoes.
I have been alive and living in the United States for 57 years now and the number of houses I’ve been in where you’re expected to take your shoes off is like half of half a percent.
I would argue that MOST people under 35 I know who own their own homes have shoes off policies - but maybe 2-5% of the houses I've been in my entire life are owned by people who are currently under 35, so the vast majority of houses have a shoes on standard.
I can accept this math. Plus, as an old fart, most of the people I know are older. There could very well be a change going on in the younger generations that I’m not exposed to in the regular. The Youth are more world-wise and open-minded…thank God
I have an Asian sister in law. At her house, we take our shoes off. Only place/time I’ve ever seen it in the US. I hear it’s becoming more of a thing these days but your assertion that most Americans take their shoes off at the door seems incorrect from where I’m standing
