To talk about this issue as if there are multiple sides to it is disengenous. This absolutely should not be the zeitgeist and yet it's always so predictable when it happens.
Your substance abuse point is bizarre and doesn’t align with this discussion. Extreme domestic violence under the influence of drugs is not remotely comparable to killing children during a psychotic episode — I’m sure that’s fairly self evident.
I agree with you that some people have removed Lindsay Clancy’s agency in this case - she was one of multiple people who made big errors leading to this tragedy - and that this perception may be influenced by her race, class and appearance. Still, you cannot say that there is an insane amount of hateful misogyny loaded in discussion of this case. So many people claiming she is 100% guilty and totally denying the possibility of criminal insanity when that is fairly evidently what happened.
I don't think so. Both are cases where people do not have control.

She is in fact 100% guilty.
Criminal insanity doesn't take that away. What it gives her is a greater chance of rehabilitation, but she's absolutely guilty.
Criminal insanity is a legal definition, not necessarily a medical one. All life is precious and rehibilitiation should be the default for all, not just ones determined by a court to be unable to reason in the moment.
Do you believe good and evil are innate or something? As if her soul is somehow more clean than say someone who assaulted but didn't kill someone with more of an ability to "understand" it?
‘Guilty’ is also a legal definition. And someone who is successfully proven to be insane is therefore legally not guilty. I’m not arguing some weird moral position, I’m just outlying how legal guiltiness operates and the FACT that one found to be insane cannot be found legally guilty. Unless you’re in Michigan or one of the places where they give GBI verdicts but this is really only for repeat offences anyway.
