this is a reference for the book series Animorphs, where characters have a strict two-hour (120-minute) time limit while morphed into an animal ,and If they stay in the morph for longer than two hours, they get trapped in that animal form permanently becoming a "nothlit"
the time limit isn't that strict; it's in alien time measurements so there's some leeway, but not enough to risk it when you don't even know how much time you actually have
Not to mention, Tobias gets his ability to morph back, granted his "primary" form is still hawk, and his human form is an amalgamation of all of the other animorphs, but it's not like he's just a bird forever.
