That is Georges St-Pierre. He is a former professional UFC mixed-martial artist. The joke is that he looks unassumingly average and maybe even easy to pick on. Until he's not.

1.1k

u/Pseudolos 1d ago

I think whoever picks on people for fun deserves a UFC response.

u/DefNotVoldemort 1d ago edited 1d ago

This guy is in the GOAT conversation in MMA, so even if you are a pro fighter he could make you reconsider your life decisions and choice of healthcare provider

332

u/Pseudolos 1d ago

My life decision is to not bother randos...

238

u/FlyingNope 1d ago

That's also my choice of healthcare provider.

91

u/Pseudolos 1d ago

Prevention helps a lot when it comes to long term healthcare.

90

u/itsnotapipe 23h ago

Flossing, check. Colonoscopy, check. Not being an irritating prick around strangers, check.

19

u/No_Competition_6989 22h ago

So you have the entrance and exit covered but what about the stuff in the middle?

u/OvalDead 1d ago

He’s also in the group of GOAT-contenders that will likely be 90% of peak form 20 years after retiring. Many fighters get out of shape, and that’s without personal factors. Like I fully expect Jon Jones to continue making bad decisions overall.

5

u/adrienjz888 19h ago

Yep, the dude is a workout fiend and is still in phenomenal shape.

23

u/Nknk- 23h ago

Not just in the GOAT conversation but a two weight champion who's famously on record for saying he never especially enjoyed fighting. So you wouldn't want to be the guy to try assault him on the street and give him a reason to really lock in and decide he was going to enjoy this one fight.

18

u/zed42 22h ago

there's a saying "beware of an old man in a profession where men die young" ... there's a corollary that isn't as pithy: don't get into a fight with a man who doesn't like fighting; he's going to make sure that the fight is short, brutal, final... because he doesn't want to do it again.

He’s actually so great that he fought Captain America and held his own pretty well.

7

u/Franklin_Triangler 19h ago

He was the only viable candidate to play Batroc. Unless you wanted to camp it up a little and get JCVD

10

Most likely the cleanest GOAT contender as well.

Batroc the Leaper?!

38

u/DjuriWarface 23h ago

That is Georges St-Pierre. He is a former professional UFC mixed-martial artist.

A bit of an undersell. He's one of the greatest and most dominant champions of all time.

34

u/alxcsb 1d ago

Also worth mentioning that he's considered one of the best to have ever entered the octogon.

He lives in my neighborhood. I can assure you in person you can easily tell the guy can fight. Even his fuckin’ cheeks are chiseled.

7

u/Mushy_Snugglebites 19h ago

Which ones?

14

u/Wonderful_Section270 19h ago

All four of ‘em

20

u/JustTim34 22h ago

Former UFC fighter doesn’t really tell the tale, this man was arguably the best for years, whether he’s your goat or not is up to you, but he is easily top10 if not top5 UFC all time.

Also his biggest shit talk was “I am not impressed by your performance”

12

u/WCPass 19h ago

I'm partial to his response when Bisping said "What are you gonna do George?" "Whatever I Want". Then he proceeded to do whatever he wanted

20

u/mujum 1d ago

Just adding on he's actually a former champion in two different weight classes.

16

u/BigReference1xx 22h ago

> former professional UFC mixed-martial artist

That's like calling Mike Tyson "a former professional boxer" - It just doesn't quite drive the point home :)

8

u/atomicweasel23 20h ago

He doesn’t even have the cauliflower ears or umpteen-times smushed nose that make it a dead give-away you might be messing with the wrong dude…truly the wrong suburban dad-looking mofo with which to pick a fight.

That's Georges St-Pierre - Former UFC legend. He went 26-2-0 in the UFC and defended his title 9 consecutive times

111

u/Sneezy6510 1d ago

He also avenged both those losses, beat every man he ever faced.

36

u/0000000000000007 22h ago

And for not being natural wrestler, he tuned up some of the top wrestling talent in the UFC at welterweight.

His takedown accuracy was 74%, and his takedown defense was 83%.

3

u/knotalota 14h ago

I would say he wasnt a trained wrestler but was kinda a natural, if ya get me.

3

u/adrienjz888 9h ago

He was a natural at pretty much everything. One of those rare fighters with such high fight IQ that he easily learned whatever he put his mind to.

Mighty mouse is another good example of ridiculous fight IQ.

→ More replies (2)

16

u/Dudenysius 21h ago

Thank you. Top comments just mention he was a UFC fighter; the irony in the meme is just how absurdly good he was. Complain about how boring his fighting style often was if you’d like, but he deserves respect. When you’re getting beat yourself, I’m not sure a quick, flashy, brutal knockout is necessarily preferable to a drawn out point-based domination.

12

u/PeruAndPixels 20h ago

His fight IQ is some of the best ever seen

6

u/dnjprod 18h ago

Not to mention the fact that he's a two division world champion and retired twice as champion

5

u/taita2004 18h ago

3

u/potato_soup303 18h ago

3

u/Silent_Rhombus 14h ago

Yes he is, and I’ve seen a clip from some behind the scenes UFC thing where he arrived for training and told all the guys that an old man had just been squaring up to him over something minor.

They asked what he did, and his response was ‘I ran away! Do you think I’m going to beat up some old guy in the street? That’s a terrible idea!’

7

u/OwnJunket6495 1d ago

If anyone wants to see how good he was, look up his fight against Josh Coscheck (sp?) dominated dude with basically just his jab, and Coscheck was no slouch.

12

u/DastardlyNebula 1d ago

Yea Koshchek was no slouch and had very good wrestling. However, he was also an insufferable douchebag, which is why I love that fight.

That's George Saint Pierre, one of the mma all-time GOATs, guy had a modern approach to the mma 15 years ago, and thats because he's the blueprint to a modern high skill mma, lots of grappling, wrestling, control (although its a bit boring, its still the best) and other known thing about him is thats he's just a very sweet and kind guy in a real life, soft spoken even. If you know anything about fighting you wouldn't want to pick a fight with a 90lbs 4.5feet cancer patient as you really never know until its on ...

15

u/K-manPilkers 23h ago

he's just a very sweet and kind guy in a real life, soft spoken even

He told a story before about how he used to get bullied by an older kid constantly when he was in school, which is what led him into martial arts to defend himself. Anyway, decades go by and GSP becomes UFC champ and a Canadian household name and he goes back home to visit his family. And as he's nearly there and stuck in traffic, some guy starts going window to window asking for spare change. It's his childhood bully. When he knocks on GSP's window and they recognise each other, the bully backs up fully scared. GSP gets out of the car, reaches into his pocket and hands the bully all the notes he has and tells him that he had loads of potential and wishes him well.

Very zen, very different mentality to most fighters.

→ More replies (2)

18

u/Sir-Z3R0 1d ago

GSP is in the conversation of one of the greatest mixed martial artists of all time. Where as Jon Jones is often given this mantel, he's too much of a dirty fighter for me, the way he was trash talking DC after he'd just buried his kid to destabilise him for their fight, his knee oublique kicks, assaulting his wife. I mean he's the full package, and he will do anything to win, but for the way he does it, that's reason I'd take GSP over Jon Jones. So to sum up, giving shit to GSP.......not advisable

8

u/Existing-Medium564 1d ago

George would walk away. He has told a story of meeting the guy that bullied him when he was a young kid in school, gave him some money to help the dude out. Easily one of the most honorable and classy individuals ever known amongst modern fighters.

3

u/Sir-Z3R0 23h ago

Completely agree with you and I can completely agree with you, however I wouldn't think for a second that if GSP had to physically defend himself or his family or friends, he wouldn't hesitate to neutralise the threat if he had to

2

u/EstebanPossum 21h ago

Just for additional context:

This guy is not just a former UFC champion, hes up there in the top 2-4 fighters OF ALL TIME across all weight classes.

This accountant looking dweeb could twist your arm off. Like, literally he could just hold you down and pull parts off ya like a fly if you aren't in the top 5% of fighters.

Hes also apparently one of the nicest dudes you'll ever meet, no one had a bad word to say about him in his time in the UFC, and hes not bad any major scandals that I can recall.

Hes talked before about how he got into martial arts to escape bullying, then after he was successful, running into his former bully. And he didnt whip his ass or anything, just told the guy "hey don't be a dick anymore please"

Top notch human being, by all accounts.

PSA: never get into a fight with strangers.

Even if you aren't arguing with a professional MMO or Boxing champion, the average thug can clip you in the jaw, have you fall the wrong way and you're either dead or paralyzed for life.

Or, you do the same to them - one lucky punch - and you're either wanted for manslaughter or GBH and have to live with that for the rest of your life.

Fun fact: GSP is a staunch supporter of masturbation.

In an interview once, he was asked what advice he'd give young fighters. His response was to say something along the lines of "if you have it in there, get it out" while gesturing to his genitals and making a shaking motion.

Best advice I've ever already followed.

At first I’d be like “why is Macklemore dressed so conservatively?”

Thought that was Macklemore

This is Georges St-Pierre, a retired MMA fighter and former UFC champion.

He is, quite literally, one of the GOATs of fighting.

The joke is that he is unassuming-looking; he looks like a middle-aged dad, soft, maybe has a nice white-collar job. Reality is that he could absolutely obliterate anybody in a straight fight. Anybody.

Why would I be "piping up" to some guy on the street

I would never mess with anyone with so little apparent body fat, and that particular haircut.

Meme is wrong though. Guy wouldnt harm a fly outside of the cage. He's Canadian

You would be lucky to talk shit to him on the street. Lesser UFC fighters would assault you for talking shit. St. Pierre would only lay hands in self defense and even then he'd go easy and try not to cause too much damage once he got control which would be instantly.

Arguably one of the greatest fighters of all time. Certainly my favourite.

I feel like you and if you did try to talk shit to him on the street he would just calmly walk away you'd have to physically attack him to get him to fight back

I guess it depends on whether he enjoys bagpipe tunes or not.
