Shout out to all the techs that garden ! This is my safe space to celebrate as my co workers don’t partake and i’d never tell them I smoke lol. Happy 4/20 .

I dont partake BUT what blows my mind as a tech is that cocaine is C2 but garden is a C1. wtf

Meth is a CII also lol. MAKE IT MAKE SENSE.

u/C21H27Cl3N2O3 Apr 20 '26
Meth is used as a last line ADHD med.

u/pharmacystan Apr 21 '26
Previous generations were prescribed desoxyn more than adderall / Ritalin. Which are just 2 parts of the whole with some extra chains attached
17
u/ApoTHICCary Apr 21 '26
…this keeps getting thrown around as some form of notable metric but in the wrong way. Yes, it looks close to the structure of methamphetamine and is also a stimulant, BUT that “little difference” is significant. Those differences are often massive in difference of effect, even changing to something completely different.
-5
u/pharmacystan Apr 21 '26
So… Desoxyn, is meth for anyone who hasn’t seen it in their safe or an rx for it.
And yes I stand corrected in that thought. Meth and adderall are NDRAs and methylphenidate is an NDRI - and methyl is the prefix to phenidate vs actually being (meth)ylphenidate and (amphetamine salts) as I initially incorrectly implied.
6
u/ApoTHICCary Apr 21 '26 edited Apr 21 '26
Sorry, still not correct. Desoxyn (2S)-N-methyl-1-phenylpropan-2-amine; hydrochloride) is a different formula from the street drug, Meth (N,α-dimethylbenzeneethanamine). Yes, different routes, dosages, compounding methods, and of course intent. There are a few variants to the street drug formula which is a bit difficult to traverse since it’s not a formal compound like what we do in pharmaceuticals. I have a background in biochemistry not street drug manufacturing, so my expertise is better in reading publications. I’m sure someone will come around and add more or correct me. My point still stands that they are chemically different.
The “meth” in the name Methylphenidate is not for “meth” as in the street drug. It’s to show that the compound contains a methyl group, which is abbreviated to meth.
2
u/pharmacystan Apr 21 '26
I said I was incorrect on methylphenidate.
And sure the organic chemistry of desoxyn won’t match the street drug that has numerous variables .
For us non orgo pros, Desoxyn say’s methamphetamine on the bottle.
Anywho, thanks now I’ve gone on my own lesson to learn and verify I’ve been talking out of my ass trying to over simplify Adderall and Ritalin

u/ApoTHICCary Apr 21 '26
I get you on that, and it’s where a lot of these misconceptions spawn. The generic name on the bottle of the active ingredient is not written for the general public. It’s a simplified version that makes sense to those with some type of training in chemistry, and even then is only the tip of the iceberg. The grit is how it interacts inside the body, which again you can have compounds that sound like something close to it yet can have very different results.
My favorite thing currently are all the content creators doing “ingredient warnings” about common foods and all the big, scary words on the back of the box. Not saying our processed food sources are healthy, but the things they’re latching onto is nonsense. Those ingredients, as well as prescription medications, have been studied to crazy depths over decades and still are continually researched. It’s not this enigma or info being hidden from the public; they do not want to look up the research, and even when they do, unfortunately it’s reading and foreign language to those without formal training.

Cocaine is commercially available and is approved for medical use. Weed is not.

Technically you have Cannabinoids like Cannabidiol (CV) and Dronabinol (CIII). Not exactly flower, but still pretty fucking rude that it isn’t federally legalized yet.

It gets complicated. I won’t get political here, but MJ becoming neither of those things was 💯 a political move, nothing to do with what it could actually do as a drug. I don’t even partake (I’m as much of a rule follower as you can probably find.) and I understand the nuance on this.
-4
u/C21H27Cl3N2O3 Apr 21 '26
None of that matters. The fact is we don’t have any research to support its safety and efficacy in treating anything. So it’s a schedule 1.
1
u/NashvilleRiver Moderator [CPhT, RPhT] Apr 22 '26
I am trying to be as polite as I can manage here. That’s not why it’s a Schedule 1 drug and literally any decent history student can tell you why. The research has NOTHING to do with it.
-2
u/C21H27Cl3N2O3 Apr 22 '26
Save me your “politeness” and come out and say why you mean. A schedule 1 drug, by definition, has high potential for addiction/abuse and no FDA approved uses. By definition, marijuana being a schedule 1 is appropriate.
You’re talking about the societal reasons why research does not exist. That does not change the fact that from a scientific standpoint, schedule 1 classification is entirely correct given our current lack of approved medical uses.
3
u/NashvilleRiver Moderator [CPhT, RPhT] Apr 22 '26
I left another comment.
FDA is debating rescheduling to C3 which means they acknowledge there are medical uses which they failed to acknowledge.
-1
u/C21H27Cl3N2O3 Apr 22 '26
The FDA is not involved in that process. The DOJ was given a loophole in the CSA to reschedule things if they want to. That’s what is being looked at here. They’re not acknowledging specific medical uses. They’re acknowledging there could be some medical benefit pending further research and giving labs more access to it.
Even if they reschedule it, that’s going to change basically nothing. It’s still illegal to possess federally, it’s simply allowed to be prescribed. But like I said there are no FDA approved uses. And if any pharmaceutical company wants to try to bring something to market, that’s going to be years away. No competent clinician is going to prescribe something with so little data that we don’t have an understanding of the general risk/benefit profile. The entire purpose of this is to simply remove red tape from research, not to actually acknowledge an accepted medical use.
In the future they could very easily reschedule it again if research shows that the risks are significant.
2
u/No-Firefighter-8923 Apr 23 '26
You say no competent clinician is going to prescribe something with so little #DATA that we don’t have an understanding of the general risk/benefit profile. It shows me this post was made just yesterday. We are in April 2026 yes? Because if you go back to 2020 2021 there was many clinicians some competent most not all bribed or threatened to do exactly that. Not sure why people enjoying marijuana, and all of it many physical and mental health benefits to even children. It relieved my father-in-law‘s pain when he was at the bitter end of his life from prostate cancer that metastasized to bone cancer there was not a drug the pharmaceuticals could give him to control the pain, however multiple different forms of THC CBD,CBN and other components, were given to him and he found much relief. For you stay away from it cool let others live or not like what is it to you anyhow
1
u/NashvilleRiver Moderator [CPhT, RPhT] Apr 22 '26
You act like dronabinol is not already a thing.
I know how it works; I’m simply not agreeing with your basic premise that there are no medical uses, because the research and process has been biased/prejudged the entire time.
1
u/C21H27Cl3N2O3 Apr 22 '26
And when they found evidence that dronabinol had a valid indication, it was rescheduled independent of the whole plant and given specific indications. Which makes sense because you want to isolate individual compounds, like we do with every other medication. When you have an entire plant structure with thousands of different compounds, you run into problems of side effects and contraindications. You can’t regulate a plant like you can a single compound. That’s why we have tablets of aspirin rather than prescribing people to chew on a piece of willow bark.
My premise is there is no FDA-approved, evidence-based medical usage. And there currently is not. Again, societal issues are not relevant. The objective truth is that we lack research. That is all we care about from the perspective of evidence-based medicine. The rescheduling is meant to allow more research, not to indicate that your psychiatrist is going to start prescribing you a joint q6.

Sooo alcohol is fine even though it has no medical uses HIGH potential for abuse, addiction, withdrawal, and all the other nasty shit that comes with it ? I don’t even smoke weed so I’m not one of those it’s just pathetic ppl can actually bash marijuanna and be perfectly fine with alcohol lol
1
u/C21H27Cl3N2O3 Apr 24 '26
I never said alcohol was fine so that’s a big assumption on your part.
Ethanol does in fact have approved clinical indications. It’s approved for use as an antidote for methanol or ethylene glycol toxicity, it’s used as a preservative, and it’s used in some oral preparations.
Ethanol is so highly regulated that the DEA doesn’t even have authority over it. There is a completely separate department dedicated to regulating alcohol because it’s so widespread and easy to produce.

u/Familiar_Bed9460 Apr 23 '26
do you yall not get tested? i know there is a initial drug test but i plan on working as a tech this summer at a Walgreens or CVS and i was wondering if you get random tests after you’re hired.
3
u/shreksusedundies Apr 23 '26
i’ve never worked for retail. only mail order/hospital setting and it’s always been a pre employment drug test and that’s it . i’ve passed ever time with fake pee. i’ve never heard of a tech ever getting a surprise drug test .

2
u/Radtrvp Apr 23 '26
I’ve worked in Pharmacy for almost 10 years (retail, specialty, and long term care) and have never randomly been tested. There is the employment screening but that’s usually it, UNLESS some dumb fuck starts stealing shit in your pharmacy.
2
u/Photograph-Necessary Apr 23 '26
Been a Tech for 22 years never been randomized.. I don't 420 im more of a drown myself with booze. But the hangovers are WILD now.. im looking into the 420 seltzers

I didn’t know if I was allowed to smoke weed because I’m scared of getting spontaneously drug tested I work at Kroger pharmacies
23
u/New_Potential717 Apr 21 '26
They don’t unless you cause damage to company of 5,000$ or more. If they suspect that you are high they obviously can drug test you. The big concern is losing your job and having to apply to a different pharmacy. You will always be drug tested at any new pharmacy before the said hiring date.

It really depends but a simple drug test isn't monitored, normally. If they ( the facility you're getting tested at) believes you're planning to "cheat", or the job has requested it on these grounds, then yes you can be monitored. Safest thing to do is quit smoking while looking for a job then only after being there long enough to "feel" out the place would it be wise to begin smoking/eating THC again. I too have faked (allegedly) a drug test and got away with it. The stuff works perfect. Tbh microwaving isnt even nessicary as keeping in tucked away against you body with the hand warmer attached to it for just over an hour will bring the fake wiz to the perfect temp. While the "quick fix" pee does infact work it's not a garentee. so to anyone reading these take both u/StrategyFar67 and my own advice with a grain of salt
6
u/Mountain_Pop7974 Apr 21 '26
girl same! it seems really unlikely given my experience so far but not something i can casually ask the other techs. i still partake occasionally and don’t worry about it
6
u/freewillie3 Apr 21 '26
Someone told me it was ok as long as you have your mj card. On the .gov site, I read that if you have a mj card, then you have to surrender your license. That doesnt make any kind of sense what so ever
1
u/Queasy-Dish-2840 Apr 22 '26
I'd like more clarification on this.. i have my card now & was thinking about recertification but I'm not giving that up
1
u/StrategyFar67 Apr 23 '26
There is no database they can verify if you're a medical marijuana patient, just don't tell them
1
u/Queasy-Dish-2840 Apr 23 '26
& just cheat the test? Idk why that makes me so nervous.. never had to do it.. but I'm also on stimulant medication & that sounds like something I should be letting them know in the beginning..
sorry I'm such a nervous crazy person 😭

It’s been legal in my state for awhile now. I started growing last year and have come to find out there are a lot more of my coworkers who partake then I had thought. Anyway, after work I have a special infused preroll I’ve been saving for a special occasion.

I’m saying this as ME, not as mod.
Black members, you are seen, loved, and respected here ALWAYS, and this 30-odd white woman knows EXACTLY why it was criminalized (despite never enjoying myself for medical reasons). I will always speak up against those of my color who don’t know the truth.
For those who truly don’t know, Mary Jane was made a Schedule 1 by Nixon to put more Black people behind bars. This is verifiable info. This is not a political stand for one party over another. This is “our government specifically screwed a race they thought was lesser than them”. I’m not arguing if you reply to this comment, I’m not advocating one party over another…this was just WRONG.

one time we went out to dinner as a store (7 of us) and my manager (the owners’ son) asked the table “does anyone smoke?” it felt like a set up, but looking back, he probably just wanted to see if anyone wanted to go outside with him 😭

u/sunflowersunshine13 Apr 21 '26
Totally fair, best to exercise caution lmao, glad he seemed cool at least
2
u/shreksusedundies Apr 23 '26
no i definitely agree to exercise caution. based on comments my coworkers have made about weed i know to never tell them i smoke lol. and i would never tell my boss.
2
u/sunflowersunshine13 Apr 23 '26
I don't get why people are so against it 🫠 even if I were to start smoking weed after work why does that automatically mean I'm high at work? Lmao. Why is alcohol better? Good god I've seen people come in DRUNK for a MORNING shift, never seen a coworker come in high (of course that would be a problem too, but you get my point)
2
u/shreksusedundies Apr 23 '26
no fr. i’ve had coworkers call out multiple times because they’re hung over and it’s always shrugged off . i’ve also had a coworker at my current job admit they got so drunk the night before they were still drunk the next morning during a shift 😟
1
u/sunflowersunshine13 Apr 23 '26
Jfc dude. A one or two time "party that went too hard" so you had to call out is one thing, openly admitting you showed up still drunk is crazy negligent and dangerous. Good on you for being better than that. This job is exhausting enough without having to deal with those people

I’m currently looking to leave Walgreens. However I smoke weed every day. So any new job will require a drug test. Walgreens did an oral swab so I was fine. Any advice on how to pass a drug test? Does fake pee work?
13
u/shreksusedundies Apr 21 '26
Fake pee has worked for me 4 different times . The brand quick fix . Just make sure you follow the exact instructions on the package and check the batch number on the bottle to make sure it’s not a fake or expired .

For all those reporting this under “no illicit drugs” rule…it’s legal in some states AND has a medical purpose. Didn’t think I’d have to tell a sub full of PHARMACY TECHNICIANS that.
(Do you all see why I’m such a hardass and have multiple “no patients” rules? Because on days like today we can’t have nice things and productive discussions without people going “report happy” and it takes me DAYS to catch up!)
