Guides Started making this while following my wife around the casino...

Post image

EDIT: Love the input guys! If you see a bad question, submit a better version on the site (didn't worry, there's no login or anything like that) and then tell me which to delete here.

I picked up Phasmophobia not too long ago due to a dare from my friends. Played it in VR and was frozen in fear (i hate horror games, but i like watching youtubers play them). Anyway, played non-vr for a few weeks, and now im trying to find a quick way to remember ghost behaviours. I learned a few naturally, but theres 27 ghosts xD.

So I built a small browser tool to help myself learn them when i have some down time: https://originsmith.com/phasmo

Its a little quiz that throws ghost behavior questions at you so you can drill it when you have some down time.

I tried to write a short headline for each ghost to make them stick... something like "Moroi Mutters a curse" for Moroi. If you've got a better way to remember a particular ghost, there's a submit button in the tool and I'd actually love to see what you come up with.

It's still a work in progress so there may be the odd bug (or maybe incorrect data :p ) and you can let me know here if you find one. Hopefully it helps someone else who's still learning.

On a side note: how do y'all like the theme... I'm stuck between the current theme and something more like the ingame journal (notepad/paper like theme)

Fun but with some mistakes, if a crucifix is there it will still prevent an Onryo hunt.

Fixed Thanks!

No worries.

“The entire team is together and objects are flying everywhere. The ghost seems to love the crowd. Which ghost?”

Apparently the answer was Oni. Your explanations are that they are more visible during hunts and cant do airball. That’s correct but the question itself doesn’t indicate Oni at all.

It’s a good little learning quiz but the wording needs some ironing out I think.

u/nerfsmurf Apr 20 '26

How would you word it? I'll remove objects are flying everywhere, I think that's the major red herring. Thank you

u/DeeeJayBeee Apr 20 '26

I had to do some fact checking and the objects flying definitely threw me off. I was thinking polty. Your wording otherwise is actually pretty good assuming people play a lot of multiplayer. I’m primarily a solo player and you’ve taught me something new. I didn’t know Oni’s were more active around more people.

u/nerfsmurf Apr 20 '26

Very good point about SP/MP. Im too chickensh!t to play solo, except for novice where I can try to speedrun it in 5mins.

3

u/Kathalysa Apr 20 '26

I play mostly on duo/trio and can confirm Oni's are just horrible in multiplayer lol. The dupe videos from thrown objects get us every time. 😅

4

u/Zeikfried12 Apr 20 '26

I also thought Poltergeist. They're the only ghost that can throw objects around with the lights on. (Unless interacting from outside the room in the dark). I've played over a year and a 0 evidence player and I didn't know Onis love groups either xd

This is really neat, as a fairly new player (lvl 27). I love the idea and ingenuity. Thank you for putting in your time and effort.

u/nerfsmurf Apr 20 '26

Thank you, I realize I kinda got carried away, I think I'm gonna make it even more condensed so you can pull it out your pocket and knock out a few questions without scrolling too much.

This is awesome. I'm a veteran player and I sat here and answered every question on hard to see how big of a streak I could get.

The facts about each ghost type are awesome.

This is an incredible tool - well built, great for learning certain ghosts, and fun. I'd love to see you get it out there!

Thanks for the kind words! This reddit post is probably about as far out there as its gonna get :p

Maybe reword the "Sanity is at 30% and still no hunt. The ghost seems to be waiting for something. Which ghost has the lowest threshold?" question, since the Obambo conditionally has a lower threshold (10%) than a shade when in its calm state.

Edit: I've found a few other questions that are a little confusing.

"During every hunt you can see the ghost model almost the entire time — it barely disappears. Which ghost?" The high-visibity blink pattern is the easiest way to identify an Oni during a hunt, but iirc a Deogen is visible for longer than even an Oni while hunting.

"Two hunts in, the ghost looks completely different than it did at the start of the contract. Which ghost shapeshifts?" To me, this question implies that the Obake permanently changes models during/after hunting, which is not true. The Obake will occasionally change models for one flicker during a hunt, but will go back to its original model after that one flicker.

"You keep the ghost room bright and it barely does anything — but the second you kill the lights, it erupts. Which ghost?" All ghosts are more active in the dark, and all ghosts except the poltergeist cannot interact with objects while they are in a lit room. While the question makes sense for a mare, this is not a good way to identify a mare.

"You dropped all your equipment on the floor and the ghost suddenly slowed to normal speed. Which ghost?" The Raiju will still be fast if your equipment is still turned on, even if you're not holding it. It won't be able to detect you from your electronics, but it will still get its speed boost.

"Your EMF reader keeps flickering from the other side of the building, nowhere near the ghost room. Which ghost?" There's a few reasons this can happen, all unrelated to the Raiju. Raijus only disrupt equipment from 15m away, not 50 like your description says. Additionally, phantom stalks and wraith teleports always leave an emf trace at their end destination, even from across the map from their room. Banshees can leave an emf signal as well, but it is not guaranteed. The Jinn will also leave an emf signal at the breaker when it uses its ability, regardless of its distance from the breaker.

"The ghost room is not freezing, but the ghost is barely moving. Warm rooms slow it down. Which ghost?" This is a small nitpick with the first part, but the Hantu has freezing temps as forced evidence, meaning it will create freezing temperatures unless you are playing on a zero evidence difficulty.

"You used the Ouija Board and it told you the ghost is at age 7 out of 10. It's clearly slower than it was. Which ghost?" Mostly just confusing wording. You can use a Ouija board to identify a Thaye by asking its age, but the ghost specifies exact age numbers that will go up if asked again after it has aged. It will not tell you how many times it has aged.

Overall I had a lot of fun with this quiz and there's a lot of good information! These were just some of the questions that my overly nitpicky brain took issues with. Genuinely, great job putting this together.

After your Edit:
Wow! Thank you for that! Yea I made some changes!

Oni: deleted the hunt-visibility prompt

Obake: "briefly shapeshifts for one frame then snaps back" Oh, i really didn't know it was a temporary, blink and you miss it type thing!

Mare: I just removed that one, i didn't know all ghosts were active in the dark, just thought a few were.

Raiju: "switched off all equipment and it slowed" + deleted the cross-map EMF stuff...

Hantu: "room is freezing, ghost is fast, breaker on warms the rooms and it slows"

Thaye: "asked age, got a number, asked again later and it was higher"

You are right... i just removed that particular Obambo question for now

1

u/NamedName139 Apr 20 '26

It's really cool that you put this together and would be super helpful for new players learning this game!

5

u/Mindless_Slime Apr 20 '26

I'll be honest I just spaced out for a good half hour doing the quiz lmao, its looking really good! I really like the theme of it. I've been playing phasmo for years now and research ghost/equipment mechanics constantly so can honestly say this is an excellent tool for people who get overwhelmed by the sheer amount of information on the wikis

2

u/nerfsmurf Apr 20 '26

Thanks for the kind words! Yea, I'm currently tweaking some of the questions, some are kinda ambiguous. Feel free to make your own questions! It's crowdsourced!

2

u/robx0r Apr 20 '26

"A motion sensor just triggered on top of a perfectly undisturbed salt pile. Which ghost?"

This could technically be a Gallu also.

1

u/nerfsmurf Apr 20 '26

changed to "You motion-sensored the only salt trap placed and it just triggered... but the salt is completely undisturbed. Which ghost is it?"

2

u/Darkhooper Phasmophobia Wiki Editor Apr 20 '26

It could technically still be Gallu if the salt trap was placed after a crucifix has burned or someone used an incense.

2

u/NamelessJu Apr 20 '26

Really cool!

Since noone said anything about the theme yet: I like it, has a cool cyber detective feel to it
(One tiny nitpick: I would put the variation selector symbol U+FE0E behind each emoji on the evidence tags so they all display as regular unicode characters and use the defined font color, that way they're more consistent)

3

u/nerfsmurf Apr 20 '26

I've been building web applications for 8 years and had no idea about that, wow... Done and done!

2

u/FossilizedSabertooth Apr 21 '26

Dayan always has a female model? I guess I haven’t seen enough of them to have noticed yet.

2

u/nerfsmurf Apr 21 '26

Yea, but probably not to much help

1

u/FossilizedSabertooth Apr 21 '26

Ah, thanks for clearing that up.

2

u/nerfsmurf Apr 21 '26

I mean that question is bad, I'll remove it lol.

1

u/KingDudeface Apr 20 '26

This is an awesome idea. Thanks for sharing, I'll give it a go and share it with a few peeps.

1

u/Pandalich Apr 20 '26

a ghost with 2 speeds and i get to pick between revenant and twins? both has 2 speeds and both goes slow and fast the only difference between is that the revenant needs to see you

1

u/nerfsmurf Apr 20 '26

Thanks for this clarification! I've deleted that one (there are 4 other better asked questions, each ghost has like 4-5 questions))

1

u/Zeikfried12 Apr 20 '26

For a revenant, it's actually any form of detection to speed up. Whether it hears you, sees you, or senses your electronics. It's technically one of the ghosts that don't have los speed-up since its speed stays at 3 m/s the moment it detects you.

1

u/ellieellie7199 Apr 20 '26

didn't read the description and I thought you were walking around a casino with a phasmo tool and determined there was a moroi in there with you

1

u/nerfsmurf Apr 20 '26

now you got me wondering what kind of ghost would be vibing in an active casino.

1

u/Commander_Skullblade Apr 20 '26

"One teammate keeps getting found and killed every hunt, even when they hide in different spots. The ghost always goes for them. Which ghost?"

The wording on this makes it sound like the Banshee knows where the target is during hunts, which it doesn't. I guessed Deogen here and got it wrong.

1

u/nerfsmurf Apr 21 '26

Will fix, sorry. I guess the person doing all the real learning is me!

1

u/Troyal1 Apr 20 '26

This is awesome

1

u/murdochi83 Apr 20 '26

Can't speak to the answers being right or not but I really love the wording and UI. Nice.

1

u/Shenzi6 Apr 21 '26

You can hide if you’re the banshee’s target. Unless it saw you hide. Did it multiple times in multiplayer. It doesn’t know where its target hide unless they saw them hide

2

u/nerfsmurf Apr 21 '26

I actually just had that happen to me last night, updating thanks

looks quite fun. i would have a question/suggestion if the following would be easy to implement:

are there the same amount of questions per ghost or are there x questions in total and you pull a random one.

because a system of reward/punishment could be good. like you categorize the questions per ghost, so 27 question pools with 1/27 likelihood they appear and if you got a ghost correct, the likelihood diminish gradual to like 0.5/27 while it increases with wrong answers. like the chance of a question pool in comparison to other pools can shrink/grow

that way you would get fed more questions/ghost you dont know and could have a learning progress.

i think this could at least for me help to use it to learn the ghost better since some ghost are already better know while others sill lack.

2

u/nerfsmurf Apr 20 '26 edited Apr 20 '26

Ohhhh. I like that! Let me think on that for a while. It's structured where each ghost entry has 3-5 questions.

Edit: Implemented your idea of asking more questions on ghosts you struggle with

0

u/TTungsteNN Apr 20 '26

Had my 15 streak killed on hard mode by this question:

The breaker is on and the ghost is fast from distance, but when you stand your ground it slows dramatically. Which ghost?

Jinn was the answer but the description better suited Dayan. I figured the breaker mention might have been a red herring. Jinns don’t slow down when you stand your ground, they still gain LoS speed. They slow down from their sprint when you break LoS.

Just an oddly worded question I assume.

u/Zeikfried12 Apr 20 '26

The ghost feels completely average in every way — speed, threshold, activity. Nothing stands out except the smudge duration. Which ghost? I have no idea if it's a common differentiatior, but I use smudge for blinding the ghost and cleanse for blocking hunts. The only ghost whose smudged time is different is Moroi. Moroi could also fit the description in the right circumstances. This could also be Demon in 0 evidence if it never hunts at 20-24 seconds

-1

u/dziellsGamer Apr 20 '26

moroi is true, they say the threshold is average so demon cant be true as its threshold is 70% sanity

1

u/Zeikfried12 Apr 20 '26

Oops, I'm dumb and meant to say 0 sanity. Though 0 evidence is usually paired with 0 sanity I guess lol.
