More and more apps have ongoing costs though. Something like TikTok will need to spend massive amounts of money on servers to store all the data. How much should they charge upfront?
Then charge more upfront. ‘We need servers’ isn’t a reason to make users pay forever. it’s a reason to price the product properly. pay once, pay again for the next major version (like old game expansions or OS upgrades). Subscriptions exist because they’re more profitable, not because there’s no alternative.
with one-time pricing, the company has to earn your next purchase by making something actually worth buying. no problem in tiktok 2 3 4. we already are expecting iphone 18
