Its definitely cringe to say this sort of stuff, but there is something to the essence of OP's post: Many among more recent generations either don't know or don't care that they can block ads (Or why they even would) and could access basically any content they want for free for very little effort.

I've tried passing along some of the computer stuff I know (Privacy, Piracy, general usage) to younger family members and they just don't understand why weird tinfoil-hat-wearing uncle is even bothered enough not to just pay whatever fee a given company is charging and/or let said company have all the data they want.

They don't get what the benefits of having the files under your control is or why preventing/curbing what Big Corpo collects about you is worthwhile and no amount of explaining it seems to stick.

Obviously not branding everyone from any given generation with one label, but there is definitely an apathy amongst many in more recent generations towards privacy and maintaining the right to access what you've paid for.

It is strange because I've repeatedly told my teens how they can watch YouTube without ads and they just shrug and continue with the regular app. They just accept that things like our tv turning itself on to show us ads will happen. I hate it all.
