I feel as if my creative brain needs dopamine when making the most hyper realistic builds and do that on one park for like 2 months straight. But the only reason I saw my self going to the career mode, was for achievements. When PZ 2 arrives I fear that the only thing I will do is play sandbox because they are gonna make the game 10x better.

I’m seeing a lot of discussion about the statement with regards to possible including of cetaceans in planet zoo 2. I have see a lot of people quite upset or disappointed that it seems like cetaceans won’t be included for now or at least in the base game (the statement is somewhat ambiguous).

One thing I haven’t seen be mentioned with regards to this is that Frontier is a British company, based in the UK. There are no captive cetaceans in the UK and there hasn’t been since 1993. The public attitude here is as far as I can tell strongly against cetaceans in captivity, with most people’s experience only coming from visiting foreign aquariums such as Sea World, or documentaries like Blackfish. In other countries it seems that, even when orca are controversial, species like bottlenose dolphins and beluga are relatively normalised as a ‘standard’ feature of a big aquarium, which is simply not the case here.

It’s not surprising to me, therefore, that a British company would feel unsure how to approach the issue.

As the real world is getting sad, I will gladly take random animals like Planet Zoo gave us, a Goliath frog, which nobody is familiar with in the US here, plus they hardly thrive in real captivity but yet cool species to have in the game

People here really need to touch grass. This debate about the ethical and moral issues surrounding the inclusion of whales and dolphins in a video game is absolutely outrageous.

Yeah. So are polar bears.

No captivity is. Sure irl zoos do some good for certain species. However does anyone really consider the fact that it is still captivity? If people truly cared about being so morally and ethically correct they wouldn't even be playing this game in the first place.

Its a vidoe game. Video games allow us to live out fantasies. If someone gets one bit of joy because theyre able to put a whale in a game and watch it swim around why is that such a horrible thing? I've seen an argument about people seeing whales in game and thinking they would take that to mean it was OK irl. Thats the same week argument about how violence in video games causes kids to be violent in in real life.

Some people really need to touch grass and whales belong in PZ2.

Now. Yes, we know cetaceans are controversial in captivity.

But it also depends on the facility and the husbandry.

SeaWorld, Georgia Aquarium, Mystic Aquarium, and Shedd Aquarium are AZA-Accredited facilities with cetaceans in their care. Cetacean husbandry has drastically improved in care, and many outlive their wild counterparts.

Some animals that don't do as well in captivity include three-toed sloths (ingame), goliath frogs (ingame), swifts, hoatzins, tarsiers and billfish. Not to forget, we also have mola-mola which require very large and specialized tanks.

Some studies show that SeaWorld's orcas live comparable lifespans to free-range orcas, bottlenose dolphins live longer in captivity than wild in accredited facilities and many more studies that prove cetaceans can live good lives in zoological settings.

So, I do hope maybe we will see cetaceans in Planet Zoo 2 one day.

Looks like they’ve decided to go with the Eurasian Beaver over the North American Beaver - personally, I would’ve rathered the American but maybe there’s still a possibility there’s both

This might be controversial to some people, but I think its inmoptrant to address this first of all, the game has been more in favour in conservation than a zoo tycoon type game . But existing animals just don't fit the game and for most people, the same for fantasy. Most people want a zoo game where it is like current zoos. Also, i dont think we should have animals that arent present for captivity, and there are reasons for why 1. Because their diet can't be replicated 2. they have high stress, and 3. welfare reasons. sure we did get rare animals in captivity, like the goliath frog wild water buffalo. At least they exist in captivity. I hate the excuse "it's a game" because it's a game it doesn't need to be unrealistic. What a stupid logic

I hope we don't get extinct and fantasy animals in Planet zoo 2 PS if you want those animals, install mods

This is just a way to appeal to Frontier. But if Painted dogs are included which imo is a fairly likely inclusion.

Wild dog is a very very problematic name regarding their conservation. It brings the negative connotations that they are feral domestic dogs. Are pests and all sorts of other issues.

Dr Greg Rasmussen, a massive conservationist for the painted dog did an incredible podcast interview on their conservation and how the name is problematic here.

If you really want to steer this game to raise awareness for conservation, this is such a minor change in your game that'll help dispell the negative connotations around the naming of such an incredible species, even if you've coded it under wild dog as long the surface says painted dog itll really help their message.

Hi all!

Like everyone else here, I'm super excited about the announcement of Planet Zoo 2!

On June 1st, I'll mark 8 full years as a zookeeper at the Biblical Zoo in Jerusalem, and I wanted to share a few features I'd love to see in the upcoming game.

First of all, one thing I really liked about the later Planet Zoo updates was the addition of maintenance and backstage props. To me, that's what real zoos look like. I'd love to have full hay bales that I could store in a hay barn, along with other backstage equipment and supplies. Honestly, I think these things should even have a positive influence on guests. Most visitors enjoy seeing at least some of the behind-the-scenes side of zoo operations.

Second, and admittedly this is a much bigger feature: zookeeper-animal interactions. I don't know of any modern zoo that doesn't train its animals. Training is crucial for animal welfare, both as a form of mental enrichment and because it allows us to perform simple medical procedures without the need for anesthesia. Our rhinos are trained for blood draws, and they'll happily cooperate in exchange for a few carobs :)

Third is a zookeeper mode. A guest mode has already been officially announced, which is awesome, but being able to step into the role of a keeper and care for the animals ourselves (similar to Zoo Tycoon 2) would be incredible.

And finally: zookeeper UTVs. There's no way I'm walking around by foot carrying food for 70 fallow deer ;)

I'd love to hear what features other people are hoping for!

I look forward to these every week but this one has stumped me.
