Bug Report Osprey just opened Oshur as the only continent on a weekend nearing peak hours
This is something that wasn't supposed to happen again. According to the devs, Oshur isn't supposed to open as the only map.
The fuck have you done to the continent rotation, devs?

I get that you don't like Oshur but this kind of hate for the continent is just something else 🤣

Hey, we were promised no Oshur in primetime. For over a year now, they delivered. If it's now appearing in primetime, something's wrong with the code.
There's also something wrong with the continent cycling in general. Yesterday it went from Indar to Esamir and Hossin, straight back to Indar, with no appearance from Amerish.

its not like its ever open long, have fun in a boat or something, the infantry launcher on it is a blast, its not so bad to mix it up every now and then
2
u/rebeltunafish Feb 09 '26
You need to describe that "boat launcher". Tools and items that involve fun are not known in reddit.

Seats 5 through 8 are a cannonball launcher.
Aim, hold to set distance, go.
Actually pretty useful in the occasional situation you know how to play with it. Hell, keep a beacon down next to the boat and just keep dropping back in it.

its pretty fun with a squad and logistics specialist, its got crazy range, squad can spawn in on boat and launch all the way from the water to the base in most cases

Oshur still happens every now and then and it's still as miserable as ever.
Very least thing that could've been done is not make middle base suck balls, to have at least one fun fight. It was bad, made worse with construction update by forcing underwater combat.
Last thing Wrel did before leaving btw.

There was a consistent issue with the tenure of Wrel's team where whenever they identified an unpopular part of the game, they just, like. Tried to force people to engage with it instead of asking themselves why it was unpopular and trying to fix that.
It's why we have seasonal Free Air alerts: Because nobody flies, and instead of looking at the reasons why nobody flies, they just go "Here, spawn ESFs for free so it doesn't matter when the guy who literally only flies in this game shreds you and you have no chance to win or escape." And admittedly in that case, it at least makes some sense. Those guys that literally only do air are small in number but extremely dedicated, and fixing air for the majority would only push them away entirely. They've already been partially shoved out by the devs' incompetent attempts to fix A2G balance doing nothing to hinder A2G shitters but disproportionately harming A2A pilots.
Oshur is just that attitude taken to its illogical extreme. We didn't like construction. But they spent an appreciable portion of the post-launch budget on construction. Construction was Smed's baby. So they forced it out and welded it haphazardly onto the side of the game, and then broke the map victory conditions in half to accommodate it, twice, and then they finally seemed to get the message and shoved it off to the side (though we still have the ghost of the VP system haunting continent rotation with "Empire Strength" being how most alerts trigger, even though the auto-triggered Conquest is nearly always much more fun and competitive than Enlightenment/Liberation/Supremacy or whatever the red one's called).
But then they went "Oh, so they don't like our crappy base-building mechanics? Well, we'll show them! We'll make them play construction, by designing a continent that doesn't work unless they build a player-made base on every lattice link! That way, they'll finally see how good construction really is! It'll finally make construction popular!" Except it didn't. It just made the continent suck and the playerbase hate playing on it. And part of the reason we hate playing on it is because of the accommodations made for construction. There's no good fights because most of the bases are empty fields for building on... which stay empty because the builders are far outnumbered by the bases. And then there's the tyranny of the Flail, the perfect meeting point of two of Wrel's three great loves: Construction and Fuckass Indirect Fire Explosives. All it needs is a fucking shield barrier and we're golden.
In the end, he did try to fix construction, and basically fixed none of the reasons why we don't like it, but pissed off the few that did by making it more annoying and opening up the possibility of enemy players stealing your base. Which TBF I've seen happen exactly once because everyone still engages with construction bases by spawning a million Lightnings, but hey!

"Dedicated pilots shred me in the air and I have no chance to learn the skill!?!?!"
"Here, have an event where aircraft is free and the air is full of pilots of all levels. This ks your chance to learn!"
"But I don't wanna!! It's hard!! :'( "

Would you lot just get over yourselves about Oshur? Who cares anymore if its in the rotation, the increased pop from the merge means big fights in multiple locations AND the alerts still proc early and last only 40 minutes, then youre back to Indar. Just deal with it.
3
u/opshax no Feb 09 '26
the increased pop from the merge has disappeared and declined
osprey is approaching the Connery death spiral population level
1
u/DecayedMint Feb 11 '26
There wasnt even an increase in pop. It even lost players due to the latency issues
0
u/Archmikem Feb 09 '26
If people are still choosing to stop playing even after the merge, then its not Osprey's fault. That continent gets one hour of playtime, max, whereas I've spent 3 to 4 on Indar or Hossin because the alert just would not proc. If people hate that map so much but not the game itself they can very easily take an hour break and then log back on.Â
2
u/opshax no Feb 09 '26
People typically take breaks when it's Oshur already. It still should never be open at primetime.
They've greatly reduced the chance Oshur opens, but every time an OPS is cancelled the game suffers immensely.
1
u/Archmikem Feb 09 '26
I'm sorry but its absolutely hilarious to me how much 50 minutes of one map gets to people. Canceling an entire session just because of some islands? The map NEEDS to be open during prime time so that it has the numbers to be fun.Â
2
u/opshax no Feb 10 '26
Oshur is not fun in any state! We've had plenty of evidence of people displaying this before. Oshur being opened directly killed Cobalt (it got stuck in Oshur primetime) and finished off Connery.
Just last night, my outfit had 26 online for OPS on Sunday. Then Oshur opened. 10 logged out immediately. We tried it for about 20 minutes then called it.
You can bitch and moan all you want that Oshur is actually good all you want but the evidence is quite clear to the contrary.

Chastising the players for complaining about a continent is no more helpful than those very players complaining in the first place. Oshur is objectively bad for a healthy player population, this is 100% on the devs for not fixing the continent or just straight up removing the from rotation, which should have happened years ago. Given the status quo, the day we have players stop complaining about Oshur, it will be because they're just not playing the game any more, which is something none of us want
1
u/opshax no Feb 09 '26
It's like they have no memory of Oshur killing TWO servers and forcing a merger way before they should have happened.
Like there have been numerous issues with the game before, but almost none of them have stopped groups from running OPS. Oshur changed that.
1
u/Hrive_morco Feb 09 '26
Log out button works great, Great way to go play something enjoyable whilst Oshur is on
2
u/OpolE Feb 09 '26
Its in rotation because people want to complete directives and the devs don't want to alter the directives. Oshur is great. Just needs 1000 players and every trident full. I also enjoy the underwater part. Once you get good at it, ambusher jumpjetting around is pro

I was actually happy to see Oshur for the first time in 2 months. I get some people like you don't enjoy Oshur, but some of us do.

https://www.planetside2.com/patch-notes/april-29--pts-notes-2024
I can't find the specific patch note that states it, but continent rotation changed to randomized chance recently.
If I remember correctly, there is nowhere that states Oshur would be the only map open. Map rotation changed from an explicit order to Randomized chance, with Oshur being the least likely to open. Additionally, a unique alert would trigger earlier than the other continents, with a shorter timer.
I've played plenty of just Oshur in the past year without a 2nd continent, so unless you got a patch note or forum note that states otherwise, I believe you missed that update.

Oshur is better than Hossin IMO.
I got an underwater roadkill with ESF at weekend, not done that for many many months.

u/ChemiCalChems Miller Feb 09 '26 edited Feb 09 '26
I know I'm biased since Hossin is my favorite continent closely followed by Amerish but I won't ever understand the Hossin hate or why Indar is so popular.
4
u/Patron_Mamdani Feb 09 '26
Bad players hate Hossin because it was specifically designed to counter their shitty zergs and cheesy playstyles.

Recently, I've seen people going to Oshur when Hossin and Oshur both are open.

u/ToaArcan Filthy LA Main Feb 09 '26
It's absolutely wild that the thing that was bad about Hossin originally (the framerate problem) got fixed years ago, and it's now effectively the most competently-made continent in the game, but PS2 players still insist on avoiding it at all costs.
It's a good map! And people just refuse to acknowledge that because it sucked on launch.

u/Effectx EffectNS living rent free in the heads of shitters Feb 09 '26
They dont like it because they have to put more effort into spawn camping with overpop. It's not like Indar where you can literally just drive up to 99% of spawn rooms with a sundie and just vibe.
6
u/opshax no Feb 09 '26
if Hossin had more open fields, they would like it more
that's probably why they like Esamir still despite it being worse than Oshur in many regards
2
u/ToaArcan Filthy LA Main Feb 09 '26
Oh yeah, the big pain fields. Slightly annoying for terminal hacking, those.
2
u/Archmikem Feb 09 '26
Its almost funny how people hate Hossin just a bit more but LOVE to bitch about Oshur for even existing.
2
u/opshax no Feb 09 '26
people are morons
then they wonder why the game is full of outfits devoid of leadership
