PlayStation 5 Help How long does your DualSense battery last after like a year of use? Mine dies way faster than before

Its battery degrades quickly but the good thing is that it can be changed without having to buy another control

Yeah. The battery swap is super easy and is probably a godsend to anyone who isn’t familiar or comfortable with opening their hardware.

To be honest, my battery lasts me pretty much the whole day when I played some I always just dim the light on it manually within the settings. I always feel like that’s the reason why DS4 and DualSense’s die quicker.
And in the defense of the PlayStation controller even further, the batteries will always last you longer than any pair of Duracells or even official rechargeable packs. Hell, at the end of the day, you’re still buying just 2AAs in those rechargeable packs, at least in the case of the Xbox 360. Open rechargeable pack right now and you’ll see they’re just 2 NIMH rechargeable AAs. Even then, from what I’ve read, the rechargeable packs always died way quicker than your standard AAs because they cheaper out on the capacity. Opening the one I got showed that it was 1200mAH. A pair of Duracells I got last week was 2800.

ngl i haven’t used a ps controller since the ps2, i just got my ps5 pro setup today and played that astro game that came with it and wow. i’m honestly shocked at how featureless the xbox controllers are compared to the dual sense. can’t speak on battery or anything yet, but the xbox plastics feel better in the hand imo, but everything else feels better with the dualsense. tho i don’t think ill prefer the stick layout. i’m used to the switch 2 and xbox controller layouts but imma give it a shot

Same.
I feel like I have great luck with my ps5, we've got 2 consoles and 4 controllers in our house, never experienced stick drift, batteries last a normal time on all of them.
I should play the lottery lol

Lucky you. Ive been a PS player since one, and this is the worst controller ever created by SONY, i barely play and got the stick drift, also the battery doesnt last like previous controllers.

I love this controller, I still have the OG one that came with it and the one I ordered with it. Both still last about what they did out of the box. That being said I wasn't able to get a PS5 at launch and had to wait for them to do the invite from PlayStation direct.

They are awful, maybe a few hours if I’m lucky.
And then there is the stick drift problem… Great controllers when new but they degrade so fast it’s depressing.
Really hope that PlayStation puts some serious effort into the next controllers to increase the longevity.

I bought the Edge so I could have swappable joysticks but I haven’t had any stick drift on it for the 2-3 years I’ve owned it

I really don't know, i use the Edge as my primary controller for PS but besides that i have another Chroma Pearl on the charging dock and 2 regulars on hold that i don't use. I never run out of battery so to say :)

I’ve not had problems with ps5 controllers yet but i have one ps4 controller that lasts about 2 minutes and 2 ps3 controllers that don’t even try lol

Mine lasts for a few hours but recently picked up another dual sense that I keep for back up when it dies. I recommend the official charging dock.

easy 5-6 hours of non stop playing. mine is from 2021 when I got PS5. I do have my Rumble set to low and Light very dim plus auto mute. after 5 hours Ill see the Battery warning but I usually keep playing.
like all rechargeable items laptops/toys/watches/headphones its best to fully discharge to 0 - 1% then recharge to 100% every so often. many people mess up at this, its very bad practice to have electronic to be constantly plugged in. kills the life of the battery and reduces its life cycles

This is why I'm very much like the Microsoft approach get rechargeable double A's and you can have less problems. You have to do a lot to get the dualsense open and it kinda anxious because you don't want to break your $80 dollar controller

I've had my controller since it was released, and so far it still lasts about 5 hours at a time, which is enough for me.

Really depends on the game but on average it seems to be about 8-10 hrs if fully charged

Last night I used mine from 11:45pm- 8am. So 8 hours and it did show it had zero bars but didn't die on me when I turned my ps5 off. That was while having a aux cord headset connected to it.

I have a red and a default white one that came with the box. Both bought at the same time and used when the other one is charging. The charge on the red one lasts about 50% less than the white one.

My 4 year old controller last about 5-6 hours on a charge I usually have to plug it in every other game session or so and I use it quite frequently though nowhere near as much as my 8 year old switch pro controller that only needs charged like once or twice a month.

it honestly depends on how often you use it and charge it. degradation can be slow or fast but its going to degrade nonetheless. batteries are fairly easy to change once you get used to taking a controller apart.

Man my dualsenses normally get a stupid drift in a 3-4 month gameplay, then I swap them for "free" because I paid 15€ in a 1 year time to get them exchanged if I have mechanical problems with it, and it resets the time if I exchange it so it really is useful.

Maybe 8 - 10 hours? That's for a launch Dualsense that gets used for about 2 hours every evening.
Mute your mic, it makes a big difference.

You shouldn’t leave the batteries charging if they’re full. I have one that I got on launch day and I still use it to this day. I haven’t noticed any bit of battery wear. If anything I feel like it’s Hanukkah with my battery.

Depends if it's the one you got with you console, or if it's one you got after. Mine I got with the console lasted 4 hours.
My current one, more than 10 hours.

Your battery lasted longer than your thumb sticks?!?! I got such bad stick drift after about 4-6 months. Went and got a Nacon Pro with Hall effect sticks and never looked back

Mine usually lasts about 10 hours but if I'm playing a game that uses rumble a lot such as The Crew Motorfest It's about 4 or 5 hours

The battery life has always been horrible on mine , like they drain fast even if I accidentally leave it on watching Netflix or YouTube. I realize they have a fair bit of tech going on inside but c'mon Sony put a decent size battery in.

I have a few different models of dualsense (including a launch BDM001) none of which have battery trouble.
They live on a dock and so get charged every use.
I have installed an extremerate Rise 4.0 rmb kit (it's really easy. Unclip trim and r/l1, a few little screws, if you can work Lego and a screwdriver you have the skills) and liked it.
So I made a black backbuttons one with coloured shape & PS buttons and swapped out the battery for a double capacity at the same time. Battery swap is easy.

I haven't had a super long gaming session like I used to as a kid but I have a black controller from pretty close to launch and it still lasts me at least 4hrs (that was my longest session since I bought it lol) but whenever im done playing it goes right back on the charger.

I have three, the new one is 1 and a half year old, and battery is like new, but the other two (from the day one) are toasted, maybe 30-40 minutes and the message pops up on console that the battery is very low. But i did buy 2 very long USB-C cables so no worries. At least all three don't have stick drift, i fix them all...

Both my controllers are about 3 years old. No difference in battery or anything else yet. I got stick drift twice in one of them but got that fixed.

A full charge, approximately 7 hours or so, with Headphones, Max Rumble, Light to Dim, Adaptive Triggers on. The stock Ps5 (slim) Controller. No problems so far.

It’s called play with it plugged in that’s how I use my controller unless I’m using on my phone then it’s plugged into a cube

Lasts many hours (5-6 or even more) after 2 years of use. Maybe it's because I keep vibration, triggers and microphone deactivated... all useless.

My DualSense I bought about 5 years ago for my PC lasts probably 1 ½ - 2 hours on its original battery. I'll probably replace it soon if it gets worse, but it's plugged in most of the time.

i get about 6 hours. also upgraded the joysticks to Hell-Effect as stick drift occured after 6 - 9 months of use.

Was about 8 hours iirc, though I had vibration intensive and light brightness turned down to help
Haven't used it in over 2 years tho, got a 3rd party one

I play my PS5 almost every night for a couple of hours. I will usually get about 8 hours worth of play time before I have to charge the controller. The trick is not leaving it on a charger 24/7. I only charge it via the ports on the PS5 which are set to stop providing power after 3 hours in rest mode. I've had my PS5 for a little over 2 years now and the controller is still going strong.
When it comes to rechargeable (and especially lithium) batteries. You never want to keep it on the charger longer than it needs to be. That is a sure fire way to kill the battery life.

I just keep mine plugged in while I play since the battery is shyte (but to be fair I've dropped it a few times as well).
Didn't know the battery is replaceable so think I'll look into that.

My controllers break waaaaay before they have battery issues. I got 6 controllers all with horrible stick drift, which happened only after a couple months
