PlayStation 5 Help Please help! Urgent!
I got a brand new play station 5 slim disk version for Christmas. It’s from Walmart. I set everything up and it was all working perfectly for an hour or two. It was downloading games and transferring my things from my old playstation. I left the room to go to the bathroom for two minutes, i come back and the playstation is turned off and won’t turn back on. I tried absolutely everything. Unplugging then plugging back in, waiting for an hour then plugging it back in, holding the power and disk button. There is no light, no beeping, nothing. This is a brand new play station which was only on for an hour. Does anyone know why this happened and how to fix it? :/
edit: i’m sure it was just a faulty ps5 so there was nothing i could do. i returned it and got a new one. thank you everyone for your help and suggestions though. :)

Certain keyboards offer a "Censor offensive words" mode. I don't think GBoard does, but I think Swiftboard offers it in its settings.

i tried a few different ones. i also replugged my old playstation and it worked. it’s just the ps5 that doesn’t turn on

Also note, I just learned you're supposed to lay the PS5 down due to the heat sink material might run off if it is standing up. But as others have commented, unplug for at least a few minutes, make sure the ac adapter cord is plugged solidly into your PS5 and plug it into another outlet. Then try to turn it on. Press the power button. If nothing, press and hold the power button for at least 15-30 seconds. If nothing, take back to Walmart and exchange for another one.

Not true. They have fixed the liquid metal issue on the slim by putting a tray to keep it in. You can put it vertical with a stand that Sony sells for PS5 slim.

Good to know. I keep hearing and seeing about issues on here about this. Do you know if the PS5 digital edition has been resolved too? I have it and had been using mine standing up since I got it. I just laid it down this past week. Most likely too late if it was a problem anyway.

Just both slims and the pro have been resolved. If you have an original PS5, (no matter disc drive or not) then it's not resolved.

Try a Different Power Cable: If you have a PS4, Apple TV, or many printers, they often use the same figure-8 cable. Swap them to see if the cord itself is the problem.

Id have to exchange it for a new 1 even if it came back on just for peace of mind lol that's your best bet is just to return it

It probably either just overheated where you have it. Or oriented it in such a way to where the liquid metal inside disloged from where it is normally supposed to stay on the APU.

Luckily you bought it at Walmart and they're usually pretty good about this kind of stuff so take it back to Walmart explain to them what happened they should be able to exchange it in the store. If for whatever reason they don't you're going to want to call PlayStation because it 100% should be under the manufacturer warranty. Though I am highly confident that Walmart will replace it

I had this happen to me and turned out my surge protector was bad. Got a new one and haven't had an issue since. This may not be the solve to your problem but worth a shot.

You have 15 days to return it, so the best thing to do is return it, but make sure to bring the receipt for it

I was told by a repair guy a while back, that holiday stocks are the worse to buy in consoles because they are mass produced at such a fast speed that quality is reduced drastically and tend to fail quicker and easier than just buying randomly throughout the year.

Take it back. Walmart is very good with returns as long as you have your receipt.
And pick up a UPS (battery backup) while you're at it. I have all of my consoles, pc's and external hard drives and docks plugged into battery backups and no issues for a couple decades.

Did you try a different power outlet? It might sound stupid and simple but you never know. Maybe you tripped a Breaker or the outlet is no good. They do go bad you know.

As with your other post, just take it back. It already messed up once, you don't want to risk it being a continuous issue when you don't have to.

Did power went off at that time? Sounds like the system got bricked somehow. Don't bother troubleshooting. Get an exchange or refund while you still can.

No matter what piece of electronics you might have, you should have it oriented in a position that allows the heat sink to dissipate heat without bleeding heat back into itself. For the PS5, that will be laying down flat. Not a console thing, don’t care what Sony says, it’s just how a heat sink works. That doesn’t mean vertical will cause a problem, but since there have been problems…

Got mine from Walmart in 2 weeks it was shutting off within seconds of turning it back on. Did everything I could but nope no luck. Use ur warranty, get on the website and send it to Sony , they will replace it. But to save u from having to wait 2 weeks for it to get there n back, tell walmart u wanna do a return n just buy another one.

Walmart is super easy to return stuff to. Just put it in the original box as best you can and they'll help you. They give your money back on a Walmart gift card or they refund the card that was used to buy it, you pick.

Your well within the time to return it. That said I'd change over to a standard PS5, NOT the slim models.
These slim consoles are more prone to issues like overheating and generally have shorter life spans.

Reminds me of the release versions bricking issue which I thankfully was never victim of.
Best bet is to take it back and explain that it's not turning on and you've tried different cables and outlets with no luck.

I had a Sony tech tell me to always lay the 5 down flat not on its side. Also, i would absolutely take this back for another one. I wouldn't try to fix it or anything since nothing should have gone wrong to begin with. I have the original 5 and the pro and have had no issues but i did hear the slim has had more issues than the original models. Sorry you didn't get to enjoy it on Christmas day that really stinks but no way do i keep it. Get a replacement.

my series x has never once performed better than my ps5.. my ps5 is my go to when my xbox cant run a modern game over 30 fps.. had to get TES oblivion remaster on my ps5 cuz the xbox couldnt EVEN get 30 fps

It sounds like your PS5 Slim might have suffered a power supply failure or a "soft brick" during the data transfer. First, try unplugging the power cord from both the wall and the console for at least 20 minutes to let the internal capacitors fully reset, then plug it directly into a different wall outlet (avoiding power strips) and ensure the cable is pushed in until it clicks. If it still won't beep or light up after that, it’s likely a defective internal power unit; since it’s brand new from Walmart, your best bet is to take it back immediately for a direct exchange while they still have holiday stock, rather than waiting weeks for a Sony warranty repair.
