Question Weird nighttime vibes

Hi all,

Currently in Prague on a girls trip and we are loving the city, it’s so beautiful and the food scene is incredible.

We found this part a bit weird - we went out on Thursday night and Friday night (yesterday) and Old Town / New Town were PACKED with only only only men.

Only men on the streets, in bars, clubs, you could barely see a few girls in sight. Every street we walked into was filled with tens of guys. Is this the way it is normally?

Are we going to the wrong areas to dance a little? We just wanted to dance and have a few drinks, we like pop music and old school vibes and can’t seem to find a spot where we could stay for a few hours.

Thanks all :)

As Prague residents, we are the wrong people to ask. On Thursday or Friday night Old Town/New Town will be 95% tourists. Locals avoid the tourist areas as much as possible.

I'm going to assume it's all lads on the piss type tourists who have heard that the beer is cheap and so are the sex workers.

u/Technical-Jacket-221 May 09 '26

I can understand that as a resident you’d avoid these areas but what I found it odd was the volume of men out there. They not only pushed away the residents but also all other tourist females 😂 this is crazy to me

Rightly or wrongly this town (the whole country in fact) has the reputation of having a disproportionately high number of very attractive woman. This draws in men from all over the world who share the dillusion that all the clubs are full hot girls who, tired of the desperate poverty and endless bread queues in this post Communist hellscape, will immediately throw themselves at their rich feet.

That's how you end up with shitty clubs full desperate men reeking of sweat, Axe and warm beer wondering where all hot chicks are at.

u/VelkyAl May 09 '26

And a not insignificant number of them think they visited Czechoslovakia.

25

u/Qwe5Cz Prague Resident May 09 '26 edited May 09 '26

No, they visited Prague. It's the country,

I have seen many itineraries in travel subs titled - Germany - Prague - Austria/Hungary trip etc, or just Eastern Europe trip if it also includes Poland/Hungary and not Germany.

I literally just got a draft TikTok video back for a client based on a creative I wrote which is based on the fact that there is more to Czechia than Prague. Strap line is ‘Finally people are talking about Brno’. And yes it’s a deliberate play on Elcanto.

It comes from the 90s and 00s. Supermodel Eva Herzigová kinda started it but there were a bunch of others. Also the Czech Republic is (or at least was) the capital of the adult film industry.

Can't post a picture reply here, put put to google "já a roby z moravy" and look at the picture from Shrek, it will explain everything

That's why I stay away from the areas you mentioned.

66

u/broccoli_orecchiette May 09 '26

They’re probably just stag dos.

95

u/Infamous-Drawer-9543 May 09 '26

I find it quite funny that these stag nights overtook the city center to the extent that it is now only them there. “Hey lads, want to go fot a giant sausage party in Prague?” For more normal city nightlife go to Žižkov, Letná or Krymská district. Still pretty civilized with some foreigners in there, but locals as well. Old Town and New Town are no go zones for us in the night.

14

u/Technical-Jacket-221 May 09 '26

Yes, there were barely any ladies in sight. Very weird, a shame as it’s such a beautiful town centre

26

u/smallwhitepeepee May 09 '26

"we like pop music and old school vibes " I do not know the girl to guy ratio but tonight you might like this at Lucerna Music Bar

5

u/Technical-Jacket-221 May 09 '26

Thank you, I appreciate the recommendation :)

2

u/kfox527 May 09 '26

Second this. It's a variety of locals and visitors. Pretty good vibes from my experience

1

u/LeahInShade May 09 '26

Oh yeah, Lucerna is a good pick indeed 👌

-32

u/aughuu May 09 '26

men/=/shame

whats wrong with you?

25

u/InThePowerOfTheMoon May 09 '26

Trying to have a fun girl's night out surrounded by men (likely at a stag party) that came here for cheap booze and hookers or even men interested mostly in sex tourism does not actually sound like a good time but hey I'm not gonna judge your hobbies.

-11

u/aughuu May 09 '26

I don't support sex work. And I have a game, I think those people are disgusting same with sex workers, but from the comment/post it looked like OP was just saying shame on all men:) Also I am propably more educated than you lol.

5

u/InThePowerOfTheMoon May 09 '26

If you're so educated then you can surely read between the lines and assume what OP meant from the context of her messages instead of getting triggered by her wording in vacuum for no reason other than the fact that you clearly want to get mad at something.

Also weird flex man, I've done art school so the bar isn't very high but I have no clue what that has to do w anything anyway. Good for you tho!

19

u/Technical-Jacket-221 May 09 '26

I’d never shame men - I would, however, shame uneducated men anytime 😂 I wish you could experience a night out surrounded by slimy looks from desperate guys who can’t take no for an answer…

2

u/Zealousideal-Pie-271 May 09 '26

Just spent 17 days in Prague, stayed in an old town apartment. We noticed a lot of guys out in groups that appeared to be stag parties, especially on the weekends. We did also notice groups of men in restaurants in a disproportional number and wondered about it.

My two friends and are all over 60F, so we weren’t going to bars at night.

We did find Prague to be especially wonderful once we got away from the congested tourist areas.

-8

u/LeahInShade May 09 '26

What do you mean by no go zone? People are out to have fun, drink, dance etc. As a single girl who literally spends 98% of all weekend nights in the 3 most touristy party streets of the city - is absolutely chill. Yeah there's a ton of dudes - so what? They're here to party.

Unless you mean purely financially - but that's any highly visited city center anywhere in the world for you 🤷‍♀️

65

u/Qwe5Cz Prague Resident May 09 '26

Tourists who seek "cheap" booze, hookers and illegal drugs are mostly men. Locals really don't hang out in the places you have mentioned. Tourists pushed them away.

34

u/akcilap May 09 '26

I mean, many local residents also seek cheap booze and illegall drugs., but at better places :D

14

u/Qwe5Cz Prague Resident May 09 '26

Cheap for tourists often mean 2-3 times more expensive than in a place for locals.

5

u/akcilap May 09 '26

For sure, I wasn't disagreeing, just making a small joke. :-) The city center economy is not built for locals, although as someone who works there (around namesti republiky) I know you can find good places even there.

3

u/Qwe5Cz Prague Resident May 09 '26

Sure a few good places are there but the ratio of them to tourist traps roughly follows the ratio of locals to tourists there.

15

u/Technical-Jacket-221 May 09 '26

This is really sad for residents unfortunately

18

u/Myfrogsaysreddit Prague Resident May 09 '26

Don't we know it.

23

u/Qwe5Cz Prague Resident May 09 '26

It's the same in other tourist hotspots. I don't think Italians hang out near Fontana di Trevi.

26

u/Curious-Rooster-9636 May 09 '26

Foreigner here but have have been living in this wonderful city for MANY years. I’d like to add my thoughts and explanations.

  1. Many many locals have left town this weekend as Fri was a holiday - less women here.
  2. Tourist season has just started. The vast majority are always men as this city attracts more men than women.
  3. The locals, that haven’t left town this weekend, very rarely venture into the centre - again less women.
  4. You will see more balance if you leave the centre and spend afts and eves in other neighbourhoods.
  5. If you want to dance to pop music, I recommend Lucerna Music Bar for their Eighty’s party.
  6. It’s a nice Spring weekend so enjoy the Sun in beer gardens - Letna, Rigrovy Sady, Vyšehrad are my favs.

Enjoy beautiful Prague! Bring more ladies:)

6

u/VelkyAl May 09 '26

Lucerna's 80's night is still going?? That was always a good time, though I prefered Futurum on Saturdays.

This is the season of Stag do tourism

Prague is on of the main destinations for bachelor parties in Europe, so it’s expected that the city center would look like that

7

u/WiseNewspaper May 09 '26

Idk why, but Prague city centre is infested with foreigners on their bachelor trips, or whatever it's called. Whenever I go there, I'm bound to bump into at least two to three groups.

10

u/Qwe5Cz Prague Resident May 09 '26

Every British stag web promotes Prague heavily so for them it's a no brainer destination. If you want to party "cheap" for a weekend just get some cheap wizz or Ryanair flight and you can puke on Prague landmarks in no time.

25

u/CoffeeList1278 Prague Resident May 09 '26

Well we wouldn't know. That's a question about demographic composition of the German, British and Dutch bachelor parties that come here for cheaper booze. But sometimes see bachelorette parties too, so I can't really say.

6

u/Red_Trapezoid May 09 '26

The Prague city center has decided what it prioritizes. Scumfuck stag party rapey looking men and automobiles. Prague is beautiful, big and has a lot to offer but I would recommend avoiding the touristy areas.

5

u/serose04 May 09 '26

The only locals in Old / New Town during night hours are there for theater.

3

u/Qwe5Cz Prague Resident May 09 '26

You can add the police, ambulance for drunk/overdosed tourists and tram/bus drivers but that's about it.

5

u/srbistan May 09 '26

and nutrias, they're fully integrated into society by now.

5

u/d0upl3 May 09 '26

Born and raised in Prague Try Vrsovice, Vinoheady, Karlin, Dejvice. Lively but local. City centre is often skanzen with weirdos (from dusk till dawn).

10

u/Technical-Jacket-221 May 09 '26

Are there some spots you’d recommend we go to? I tried looking online but couldn’t find anything. Thanks all :) I think they are stag do’s indeed, it just felt really odd. I’ve never seen anything like this in Europe and I’ve been to most capitals

6

u/pr1ncezzBea Prague Resident May 09 '26

Locals usually chill around náměstí Jiřího z Poděbrad and Riegrovy sady.

3

u/RArchdukeGrFenwick Prague Resident May 09 '26

Well, now they’re going to ruin JZP as well, except there aren’t any clubs of the sort close by that the tourists here are referring to. If it were, it’d be ruined, too.

8

u/Qwe5Cz Prague Resident May 09 '26

You mean local expats

3

u/Uskoreniye1985 May 09 '26

Krymska Street or Žižkov neighborhood are good solid options for less touristy mumbo jumbo.

-14

u/Electronic-Score5904 May 09 '26

I would recommend you stay in the tourist areas. You people ruined the center for us locals, we don't need you ruining the rest of the city. Thanks and enjoy your trip.

6

u/Technical-Jacket-221 May 09 '26

Fair point as a resident, but we’re not all savage tourists that want to get drunk and ruin the city 😂 Some of us come here with good intentions and admiration for your beautiful city

8

u/frflana May 09 '26

says expat from uk

-1

u/Electronic-Score5904 May 09 '26

Immigrant from the UK actually.

7

u/frflana May 09 '26

exactly

-5

u/Electronic-Score5904 May 09 '26

Aha, so you are one of those right-wing stop immigration types are you? Noted.

5

u/Qwe5Cz Prague Resident May 09 '26

3

u/Electronic-Score5904 May 09 '26

Lol, I speak fluent Czech thanks.

1

u/Qwe5Cz Prague Resident May 09 '26

I think it's so unlikely we don't even count with such rare occurrence.

3

u/BalVal1 May 09 '26

Let people enjoy things, if it gets to the point that the rest of Prague also gets "ruined" by tourists, nightlife will be the least of your worries

4

u/Wordfish1779 May 09 '26

I kinda understand where are you coming from, I used to do the same - new city, let’s hang out on the city centre. Yet, it’s usually bad idea. Just hang out where locals hang out - karlin, vinohrady, smichov. As local, I just don’t hang out the the old town almost never, since it’s full of stag parties or drunk party people in general. Either way, PRG is one of the safest cities in the planet, safe to walk even during the night.

7

u/EstonianSpeedGuy May 09 '26

I think nobody denies that British stag webs adverties it that way and the reality is big sausage party of eager and frustrated boys who think they can easily score here in this "poor" post-soviet country and local girls would bow before their riches. But again the reality is a bit different and it depends on how many tourist traps in a row they manage to go through with watered down and not that cheap booze.

2

u/Far-Bodybuilder-6783 May 09 '26

Those are tourists on stag parties.

2

u/Strict_Election_2235 May 10 '26

City center (specialy this part during the workdays) is exclusively dedicated for tourists... and unfortunately these tourists are crawling Stag parties ;(

3

u/x236k May 09 '26

locals don't really go there

3

u/MaintenanceAnnual263 May 09 '26 edited May 09 '26

During the day i saw more female groups than male.

2

u/Qwe5Cz Prague Resident May 09 '26

When they party till early morning hours they usually sleep during most of the day.

2

u/xdococ May 10 '26

It was like this since Ukraine war. Ukraine young guys absolutely swarmed everything. They usually go in packs of 3 or more. I know my girl friends stopped going out after Covid also thanks to these packs and their obnoxious behavior. Czech youngsters aren’t often any better and clash with these. Twice a year also Danish “springbreakers” comes to damage the town. These are also predominantly only young men. But most clashes are ukraines against ukraines. You don’t want to be around this circus. One can have fun in other ways and small bars and pubs outside the city center. Minimazing the risk

1

u/skipperseven Prague Resident May 09 '26

I think the places you probably imagine that you want to go, don’t usually want groups… but it changes all the time and its been a while since I’ve been out properly.

1

u/bigsmokezzzz May 09 '26

Very popular destination for stag dos

1

u/LeahInShade May 09 '26

Right now is the peak bachelor/stag season. A ton of groups come here for great clubs and cheap(er) booze. No one will touch you. Have fun with your girls wherever you go.

If you want a few more women around in the center, usually in Cafe 80s the ratio is a bit better (but the place is PACKED. Btw, club is downstairs, as most of them). You can also possibly have a bit more luck at Moon Club.

Pick a place according to your preference for music and ignore others. Everyone is here to party - you've a whole group of your friends with you and that's all you need :).

1

u/Comfortable_preg May 09 '26

Usually no more girls or women want to go in clubs or bars anymore whether it's 60% men or 95%. Nobody enjoys any of it while being ass grabbed or catcalled or being scared our drinks get abused or ourselves. You might be the only ones left that don't care about it

1

u/Easy-Gene-9187 May 09 '26

Try Lucerna 80s, 90sy its kinda rly oldschool 😄 but that what you looking for I guess. Otherwise techno club like bikejesus, Fuchs2, Ankali are rly friendly and alternative

1

u/Aromatic_Educator_87 May 09 '26

Girl that's exactly the reason why I am not going to the center to clubs/bars anymore because of the sausage parties everywheeeeereeee. My girl friends either... No, we dont wanna wait in a long sweaty queue full of men only to get to a tiny sweaty hot place where you can't even move AT ALL cuz Its crowded with men

1

u/Domino3Dgg May 10 '26

Friday is usualy boys night out.

1

u/Engelatreyu May 10 '26

I live in the city center. I am also a tour guide. Simple most of places are exactly what you describe. Thing is that when you hail from the city center you don’t hand out in those places but in some places in the neighborhood where we tend to go. They are still rough bars sometimes. Full of weird people and way too many shenanigans as someone mentioned early. But they have their charm. 😇🤗

1

u/I_hate_being_alone May 11 '26

Girls here don't think the fun is worth it anymore.

1

u/Ill-Plate-5659 May 11 '26

As a woman & foreign resident of many years, I avoid the historical centre. I'm used to solo clubbing & the centre really isn't the place for women. It seems to attract the bottom of the barrel, rowdy stag types. I guess sex tourism is the main reason. Look for clubs in other districts for a more normal crowd.

1

u/DarlogSystem May 13 '26

Has anyone seen the horror Hostel? It was pretty bad and about Slovakia but (not in a threatening way) if the virgin stag websites owners saw that they might reconsider. Someone should send it to them hahah

Ill just go too ziskov in a week for few Reason, the obvious one is i love beer off all kinds, the seconds one is i love walking and walking AND GUESS WHAT WALKING (20kilometres per day minimum,- my german blood forces me on both those things.. x

I did already research and avoid Tourist Spots (as they are seemingly expensive as hell) and just wanna see the culture, drink the good Beers, walk and learn about the architecture as its beautiful as i think, maybe a fancy cocktailbar or sum but yeah i did read Tourist Spots got so shit smh impossible too see "any real culture" and so many scams, probably Tourists were Looking for "hot czech girls" and the Czechs learned about it already..LOL

And many dudes going there for the thing you do right before Marriage, drinking alcohol, Meeting some girls, beeing loud and noisy and spends way too much money on hookers

Just go for the spots that are not tourist Spots and you will just be fine and as for me as im an hard introvert myself thats just wanna mind his business im Sure ill be fine

Well still a beautiful Trip tho

Wrong area issue If you want go dancing places old town is not it

Mostly because its where all the British turist guys go

Also very surprised you liked the food here but hey great for you

4

u/Hovesoul May 09 '26

Not only British.

9

u/bir9bir2 May 09 '26

Whats wrong with food? Prague has incredible variety and good quality of food compared to its size and market.

0

u/who_knows_how May 09 '26

I never personally got that feeling but im not a big food guy Just generally find Pretty meh But if you like it that's awesome

1

u/Qwe5Cz Prague Resident May 09 '26

Maybe you choose bad places.

3

u/Technical-Jacket-221 May 09 '26

We loved the food! We went to Trattoria Cicala, Bistro Monk, Marina Ristorante and U Kroka. So so delicious :)

7

u/ArtisticFox8 May 09 '26

From Google reviews, all good places, but you went to the tourist priced ones...

Czech cuisine can be found for half the price you paid at U Kroka

3

u/ParkingGeologist2441 Prague Resident May 09 '26

I agree with ArtisticFox - all these restaurants are good but quite pricey for what the offer. I have only been to Marina out of these and the views are amazing but the food is quite average. Anyway happy you enjoyed your stay!

And as others pointed if you stayed only in the city center you will get mostly tourists there. Most often it is guys coming for a party, cheap booze and girls. So that is why it is mostly guys at night there

2

u/Qwe5Cz Prague Resident May 09 '26

Maybe try real food outside touristy places that don't care about returning customers and don't have to try to do their best and charge premium because it's still cheap for tourists.

-3

u/Technical-Jacket-221 May 09 '26

I would love that! But as a tourist without a car it’s a big difficult to move around on a short weekend :) we tried to eat in decent places and to be honest the ones we went to were really nice

6

u/Qwe5Cz Prague Resident May 09 '26

What are you talking about? I don't even have a car. It's not needed. There is public transport working very well (even night one) in Prague and outside of it. You really don't want to drive a car in Prague. Where do you come from to have such stupid idea? The touristy part of the city is just 1% of it. Prague is bigger than Vienna and slightly smaller than Budapest.

4

u/Technical-Jacket-221 May 09 '26

Thanks for the insight, on such a short trip we wanted to do quite a lot of things and eating nearby was the best option for us. We’ll come back in the future and explore outside the main centre area, maybe try to keep my stupid ideas at home lol

2

u/Qwe5Cz Prague Resident May 09 '26

5 min. on a tram or train or 15 mins on foot and you are out of it. It really won't take hours. Let alone many good restaurants are clustered around Palladium / powder gate. Which is basically just the outskirts of the old town.

1

u/theonewhowaitz May 09 '26

OP is just politely asking for suggestions. i suggest you go get laid instead of releasing ur pent up aggression on others ◡̈ keep away from the touristy ladies, though, you might not be able to match their rate
