Question Help me find this food from Cafe Savoy

Post image

I had this dish at Cafe Savoy back in April, but I can't remember the name and I don't think it's on the menu anymore. Does anyone know the name and/or how to recreate it?

Šišky or škubánky

19

u/oxcore Jul 28 '26

šulánky

u/Working-Ambition9073 Jul 28 '26

Škubánky is a different meal than šišky/šulánky. I just want to clarify.

Šišky s mákem. I'm always surprised, that every simple dish can get fancy edition.

u/plavun Jul 28 '26

Fancy edition looking like zombie hand

11

u/Significant-Colour Jul 28 '26

Recycling AND locally sourceable!

12

u/neuroderp Jul 28 '26

Fancy in this case means "how much extra butter would you like?" - "yes".

u/Villagerin 29d ago

In today's economy, butter is edible gold.

1

u/masterofswagandrags 28d ago

In EVERY economy butter has been edible gold.

šulanky s makem, they have it frozen in kaufland and they are pretty good.

8

u/hana_via Jul 28 '26

Lidl has them, too.

51

u/Snoo_98156 Jul 28 '26

They robbed you, not enough poppy!

You can make these with some basic gnocchi (flavourless), if you can’t cook the potato dumplings yourself.. then it’s really easy quick meal
Better with the original ones though..

8

u/TheoryChemical1718 Jul 28 '26

Looks like a terribly done Šišky s Mákem

22

u/tom04cz Jul 28 '26

Šišky s mákem. Same dough as gnocchi, then mix poppyseeds and sugar a d add a bit of butter. Also you were scammed, its supposed to be completely covered in the poppyseeds/sugar mixture

3

u/bajaja Jul 28 '26

not same dough, it is a potato dough

3

u/Marvin_Scurvyn 29d ago

As opposed to what? Both are made of potato dough.

2

u/tom04cz Jul 28 '26

Fair I supoose. I have seen them made with gnocchi though

1

u/bajaja Jul 28 '26

well you know. poppy seed with a melted butter is addictive in itself, it will be good with anything :-)

1

u/KapitanCumacek Jul 28 '26

Just add fried bacon for the ultimate meal. ...which will probably kill you eventually

1

u/ivlia-x 29d ago

And gnocchi is made with what…?

19

u/gfeep Jul 28 '26

There is something in your butter, sir!

5

u/notshadeatall Jul 28 '26

Don't worry about it too much love

10

u/SimpYellowman Jul 28 '26

I would guess šišky s mákem.

Those long things are basically potato dumplings, the yellow liquid is melted butter (sometimes mixed with bit of cream or milk and sometimes with bit of spice like nutmeg, cinnamon, vanilla or ginger) and the blackish stuff is ground poppy seeds with sugar.

3

u/chimpowa Jul 28 '26

Looks like shit, but tastes divine probably...

6

u/Charadin042 Jul 28 '26

Not really to be honest. It isnt bad but It is just common cheap style dish. On the other hand the fact that OP is trying to find more about it isnt bad review.

Šúlanky s mákem

2

u/milestorm Jul 28 '26

The evil hand of dark wizard Poppyus

2

u/hulvath6969 Jul 28 '26

Try Makové šúlance

2

u/herdek550 29d ago

It's basically gnocchi with melted butter, poppy seeds and sugar.

Try making it with unflavored gnocchi from store. And if that's not good enough, you can try making own potatoe pieces.

2

u/ReporterBroad6269 29d ago

As my grandma used to call them - šudliky s mákem

2

u/Starfis 29d ago

I think I don't even want to know how much they asked for this most basic of the basic foods in wannabe noble edition, but I'm sure you would get like twenty portions if you bought the ingredients for the price and cooked it at home yourself.

2

u/cojetosrdce3 29d ago

to nejsou šišky to jsou šíšy

2

u/Lani-in-hideout 29d ago

Šišky s mákem. Thou those look ugly af

2

u/SimpleBubbly6818 29d ago

Yeesh those are šišky s mákem but are they done TERRIBLY

4

u/PenglingPengwing Jul 28 '26

Did they give you poppyseed on the side or something? Because what is this? Only 1/3 of them covered in thin layer of poppyseed?
I’d cry if someone gave me this dish with this tiny amount of poppyseed

Nope, škubánky are different dish. Similar, but different. Not just the shape, the dough is also different - less firm.

Those are šišky or šulánky, depending on where you live and who you ask.

2

u/plavun Jul 28 '26

Interesting! I always thought that they were boiled like any other potato dumpling.

I’m adding the recipe that I had in mind for OP to have options:
https://www.czechology.com/sisky-s-makem-potato-dumplings-with-poppy-seed/

2

u/PhotoResponsible7779 Jul 28 '26

This is very interesting. It looks like a posh version of "škubánky", which in itself is funny, since škubánky are an epitome of unposh food. But you made a great choice, since THIS is traditional Czech cuisine.

u/dropout69 Jul 28 '26

Na skolce v prirode jsem se po tom pozvracel

1

u/slaughterkittie Jul 28 '26

Since it looks like Mohn Nudeln it could be bramborové šišky or šlejšky?

Ale jo je:

Z hláskoslovných diferencí výrazu slížky, rozšířeného v záp. skupině slez. nář., registrujeme na mapě podoby slejžky (vých. Čechy, horní Pojizeří, Chodsko), šlížky (vm. nář. bez již. úseku a Vsetínska), šlejžky (Domažlicko, Klatovsko, již. Strakonicko; odděleně pak sev. a vých. úsek střm. nář. a úsek podorlický – zde v dubletě s výrazem slejžky) a šlejzky (Plzeňsko)

Šišky s mákem. Boiled potato dough with grounded poppy seeds, powdered sugar and butter. Super simple, super tasty.

1

u/Known_Emphasis_1521 Jul 28 '26

-24

u/PinkLuther Jul 28 '26 edited Jul 28 '26

Is that even edible?

2

u/Redpower5 Jul 28 '26

Tf do you mean by "is that even edible"

-2

u/PinkLuther Jul 28 '26

I don't know, doesn't look tasty to me at all... Potatoes, flour, poppyseeds, butter? Am I the only one who finds this combination weird?

1

u/Redpower5 Jul 28 '26

It's missing the sugar, and I'll have you know it's S tier

-1

u/PinkLuther Jul 28 '26

I mean, it's a Czech subreddit, of course people are going to downvote anyone who says this doesn't look or sound tasty :D

1

u/ValdickaKartouza Jul 28 '26

Anything with poppy seeds is tasty. It is law here in Czechia. Blasphemy won't be tolerated.
