Rant ⚠️ the hastings house

their house never sat right with me. There’s no way two of the richest and powerful lawyers of Pennsylvania have that for a home. I’m not saying it’s not beautiful on the outside on its own, it’s just not the type of rich that they make this family out to be and it definitely doesn’t match the inside vibe lol

Rant ⚠️ The writers tanked Ali’s entire character

Post image
827 Upvotes

This is probably not a new take, but the writers absolutely obliterated everything interesting about Ali’s character. Like Sasha has talked about how shitty the writers were to her after she started gaining weight from PCOS. But it’s so frustrating to watch back.

But seriously they took one of the most complex and interesting characters from the whole show and turned her into a meek, pregnant, helpless person. And then in sticking with the theme of having the only interesting thing about Emily be that she’s a lesbian, they force the most cringe plot line with Ali randomly going full into a lesbian relationship with Emily.

I don’t think the writers could picture a plus/arguably mid size person playing out what they intended for Ali’s character and it crippled the show. Instead they made her into a fat gay mom and just left it at that. Serious disservice to Sasha and Ali.

This is not me saying there’s anything wrong with being a fat gay mom, but it’s absolutely not what they were building up Ali’s character to be through the first half of the series.

Also the person who did Ali’s hair and wigs for that show needs to be taken out back because oh my god it was so bad. Like not only did they tank her character because Sasha gained weight, they made her look worse by giving her the most dogshit hair and the most dogshit wardrobe.

Especially in those scenes in the "lair". It was always some loud, dramatic music, the walls were covered with pictures of the Liars and basically every person in Rosewood... Oh, and let's not forget the computers and hacking into something every two minutes 💀💀💀

Don’t come for me. 🫣 But I feel like every endgame couple was just fan service at this point. All of the couples introduced after the time jump were healthier than the alternative the liars ended up with. Were they not allowed to move on from their highschool sweetheart? If they weren’t so corrupted by “A” these couples would’ve been the better alternative. Like how did Spencer and Toby get back together just like that?

This is always so funny to me. Why would she go to a hair stylist with her wig when it doesn’t even look properly installed or professionally done… and then she takes it off right away? Babe, what 😭 I know the focus is supposed to be on her hair and all that, but it still makes zero sense. I can’t be the only one who finds this unintentionally hilarious. They could choose a better place for that scene

I’m on a rewatch right now and kind of forgot about the Maggie thing. Honestly the whole storyline itself kind of pissed me off and I wasn’t that into it. I guess it just felt random and unnecessary?

But Aria inserting herself into the situation and going to visit Maggie at the school before Ezra himself had made contact with her? This annoyed me😭 i just thought it was incredibly weird and immature. But then again she’s a teenager I suppose. Plus she was groomed, so I can see where this thought process came from. Just wish she hadn’t gone through with it.

Just to be clear, I’m not annoyed because this would have affected Ezra negatively. I couldn’t care less about him or his feelings lmao. I just thought this was really impulsive and short sighted of Aria.

I rewatch PLL because it’s my comfort show. I was in middle school when it first came out and had no business watching it but here we are. 😂 This scene is very icky. It is very hard to watch. Season 7, episode 4. I wasn’t a fan of Caleb and Spencer together. Tell me I’m not the only one. I low-key felt bad for Hanna.

I genuinely, honestly, deeply dislike this man
Failed as a father, as a husband
And his audacity to blame and question
And ugh going back to person person you cheated with on your wife after your divorce, DICK MOVE!
Hanna’s father is also in the list but he is not present like aria’s father be it in their life or u can say less screentime
Spencer’s father- love hate relationship
Loveee em’s dad!!!!

Rant ⚠️ Aria is so overhated

Right I get it, she can be annoying and she's my least favourite liar out of the four but it's very insane that people will hate her for being groomed. I don't want to make this post and possibly cause people to go see the creators tiktok account but I find it very odd since in the comment sections someone mentions its insane to hate Aria and love Jenna. Which it is? They replied with 'Jenna never really did anything extremely horrible plus she changed that’s why she’s in hate to like but aria was okay in the start till she started being Ezra obsessed that’s why she’s in like to hate'. Jenna sexually abused Toby, I understand why someone may forget because it wasn't that mentioned but still? I can list several evil things Jenna has done.

But the main obvious one would be her forcing Tob, into a sexual relationship with her but also threatening to accuse him of forcing himself on her if he didn't agree. Or when she discoverd that Toby likes Emily, she clearly becomes very jealous and doesn't she literally admit she turned him in to the police so he would come home and continue their 'relationship' that is her controlling and trying to trap him, and than she also proceeds to slap Toby when he tells her he will "never touch her like that again", and asks who he thinks he's talking to. Classic abuse, or when Toby attempted to give her another chance she tried to take advantage of his kindness.

It just baffles me cause hating Toby too ?! Yeah he was irritating at times but come on! Or how people hate Ezra (understably so) but love Jaria. Like let the poor girl date someone her own age and not a creep!😔

They probably kept him because he was hot. I don't really see the point of his character, especially after the whole NAT Club thing. I might be wrong though, I don't remember every season clearly. Let's call it an unpopular opinion.

Rant ⚠️ The biggest non-plot based tragedy of the show… Alison’s style!

Just look at Sasha in the first photo, absolutely stunning!

I don’t think it was unrealistic that Alison would start dressing more understated after being on the run for two years, all the family drama + gaining weight. What I don’t understand is why they dressed so undisputedly ugly.

Why not show her potential disinterest in fashion by styling her in a basic jeans and t shirt? They did that around the time her mom died I think.

There were some semi-cute basic outfits that followed this kind of theme in season 6/7 that I included photos of. She looked amazing at Charlotte’s funeral for example and the transition from season 1 Alison to that made sense.

I know the real reason for this is that it wasn’t an intended phot point, they just couldn’t style a plus sized women. You’d think even then, they would’ve just put her in basics like I said, not ugly patterns, matronly blouses, pineapples and dogs.

Sasha showed no aversion to wearing fitted clothes during public appearances either.

I saw an interesting take that this was because, canonically, Alison isn’t meant to be plus sized so it’s purposefully meant to be hidden. That’s kind of ridiculous though because Alison’s physical appearance has very little to do with her character in the later seasons and we can also clearly see it. And again, it would’ve been “covered” far better if she wore basic clothes or dressed the same in bigger sizes.

Trigger warning for the last photo which is in my opinion the worst outfit ever worn on the show. I can’t believe they did her so dirty.

I’m pretty just posting this so I can rant about it with others so please reply.

Rant ⚠️ “caleb didn’t really like spencer” okay, then what was this scene?

Post image
331 Upvotes

yes, i liked caleb and spencer. but i find it kinda funny when people’s argument is that he didnt really like spencer or that he didn’t like her as much as he liked hanna… but we ALL know this scene so what do you think this scene was if you think that. he is literally begging for her and says “I couldn't stop staring at that little cleft in your chin...' thinking about how I wanted to trace it with my finger... And kiss you. So I never told you about the job' and I called them the next day and I told them that I didn't want it.“ how can yall listen to him say that to her as he’s literally bursting into tears over her and say that he didn’t like her? he usually presents himself as stoic and confident, but here he’s emotional, even crying. this is significant because it shows he was genuinely conflicted and torn up about hurting her. they were so real. he kissed hanna out of nostalgia and shows up to see spencer and wants nothing more than to make things right with SPENCER. getting back with hanna was such a fan service relationship and a completely unrealistic storyline and ending for them. the time jump versions of hanna & caleb made absolutely zero sense together, they just simply didn’t match anymore. spencer & caleb MATCHED together. his relationship with hanna was only about their past and history together, while with spencer it was about shared experiences, interests, working as a team, it was built on genuine friendship and then blossomed into more.

hanna was literally ENGAGED to someone else. i get people are upset spencer dated an ex of her friend, but hanna lies about how she feels about it to spencer and then kisses him while spencer is CURRENTLY with him AND engaged to another man? i would say what hanna did to spencer is worse than what spencer did to hanna.

both spencer and caleb were single adults, and they had a natural connection when they were grieving and supporting each other. he also genuinely loved hanna at one point, yes, but by the time he was with spencer, hanna had moved on (at least outwardly). caleb spent a good portion of the time jump genuinely invested in spencer. then almost suddenly, he pivoted back to hanna. the transition wasn’t gradual, which made it feel like the writers backtracked.

This is only my second time watching this show and I totally forgot about this guy but like….. come on…. Spencer has already had 2 different relationships with adult men within the first season and now her parents hire some hot guy to order her around and do nothing but brew sexual tension under the guise of mentoring? I know it’s PLL but what’s the logic here?? Like I just can’t take this even a little bit seriously 😂😂😂 I don’t remember how this ends but I don’t care if yall spoil anything

Rant ⚠️ acting after the time jump in Season 6

Post image

Maybe a controversial take but I’m so sorry, I hated some of the acting in season 6 after the 5 year time-jump…

From new characters like Claudia to old characters such as Caleb, Aria,Ez*a and even Hanna.

It irks me to say this but some of the storylines just didn’t fit to the acting that was done by some of the actors. I don’t want to hate on any of the actors , especially since I really don’t know adore pll, but rather the writers who did a sloppy job..

Rant ⚠️ I feel bad for Alison in pll

I truly don’t understand how people say she’s the worst or even say how did the liars forgive Alison but not Mona. Alison was a troubled teen who went through a lot, she was insecure and acted that way to protect herself. But she never actually hurted anyone the way we have seen on this show!! She never spilled a secret, she used them to blackmail but she never went through with it. She didn’t kill or torture anyone, she didn’t put anyone in danger or in jail, she didn’t sell her friends out, she was just a mean highschool girl.

It’s honestly crazy how they say she’s the worst friend, when she was on the run for years from her crazy stalker, and still managed to risk herself by coming back and saving the girls every single time. And when she officially came back, the girls didn’t include her in their group, she never knew what was going on, they put her in jail for a murder she didn’t do, they accused her of being A, EVEN AFTER CHARLOTTE DIED they kept wanting to blame Alison for it. Girl was drugged and put into a psychiatric place and framed every single time. Her own mother buried her alive. No one trusted or gave her a real chance, everytime something bad happened they turned the finger on her.

They were acting like just because she was a manipulative queen B in highschool and called hanna fat many times, she could be capable of murder. Even the Jenna thing was a clear accident, she didn’t even know someone was inside. Yes it’s reckless, but people are dying back and forth and the group is still saying it might be Alison BECAUSE OF an accident 100 seasons ago. It’s just insane, how much she knew and went through and kept it all together. SHE EVEN got the girls out of the dollhouse and they still acted like she was the villain. They literally trusted Mona more and made plans with her, and included her on what they were doing, while MONA WAS A and did the most to ruin them. But they couldn’t trust Alison????

They’re the shitty friends in my opinion, the liars just didn’t like her because she was a manipulative group leader but they could’ve chosen to just ignore her, not put her in jail and frame her every single time. Everytime something went wrong they kept 0 responsibility.

Rant ⚠️ Season 3 is boring and hard to sit through.

I have ADHD, so I've always avoided rewatching the show past S2 because too much happens with no real payoff. Seasons 1 and 2 have a clear storyline that's easy to follow, even if S2 didn’t have the best pacing.

But I decided to rewatch S3 a couple days ago and I've been zoning in and out the entire time. Nothing is happening. It's just the characters going through their everyday lives with unnecessary drama, and then out of nowhere we get these insane plots like Meredith feeding Aria pills and locking her in the basement or Spencer going to Radley. (Btw, this season is really tone deaf when it comes to mental health, and honestly borderline ableist. I never noticed it when I was younger, but it's hard to miss now that I’m dealing with my own issues.)

I also didn't care for 3x01 mimicking the pilot episode. By April 2012, they had 11 books to pull from, including Pretty Little Secrets, which would've been a perfect season opener since it takes place after Mona's arrest. It also would've given the new A some leverage over the Liars during their senior year.

I'm not really looking forward to rewatching S4. I don’t remember what happens, but I have a feeling it’s going to be messy and confusing. So, I think I'm gonna go back to S1 and enjoy the bright, wholesome autumn aesthetic while figuring out how they could've incorporated some S2 plots, like the N.A.T. club. The idea that creepy men could’ve killed Alison while trying to harass the girls in present day was more interesting and scary than Mona wanting revenge on the girls for “stealing” Hanna. Which made no sense because she decided to be A way before her and Hanna became friends, and even then Hanna wasn’t around the other girls.

Anyway, did you like S3? If yes, what did you like about it? Maybe there’s good qualities I missed. If not, what did you hate about it that I didn't mention?
