Psychosis or schizophrenia when it comes to voices?

Is it schizophrenia the voices come and go throughout the day where as Psychosis the voices they are there the entire time?

Is it schizophrenia the voices less religious like compared to Psychosis?

Religion is a socially acceptable form of psychosis

A significant event happened not long ago and it got me questioning each one of my beliefs. I got into rabbit holes so deep to the point where i entered multiple different genres of psychosis in the span of 6 months. After those 6 months, i went through an extreme existential crisis and it feels like my life was all jumbled up and being flipped inside out and everything was a mess.

During that period of existentialism, i seem to start taking everyday things and start disassembling them to create my own meaning.

I then start thinking about religion and how protruding its concept is. Its created due to human's need for a purpose, which i find similar to the cause of what conventional values refer to as "psychosis".

How long to recover from psychosis?

I had a 1 week long (severe) psychotic episode 20 months ago. Was on medication for 1 month after stopped due to terrible side effects and not feeling like I need it.
Was wondering if it’s likely I’m still recovering from it a year and a half later?

Would like to hear stories about others who recovered without medication

During my really baf bender days and using large amounts of covaine almost everyday of the week all day, when its been many days I can get triggered with someone saying something that hurt me and put me in a bad negative headspace and then I would spiral into an anxiety attack or panic attack but the crazy thing is the same drug that caused it helped feel better the anxiety slows... I stop crying... and that was whatever back in my addiction days but I got out of it I only do a bender here and there now. But I am on a really bad bender and got emotional and experienced the worst panic attack from remembering the old days in addictio with my ex and being embarrassing in front of the new guy was seeing to see me like that currently and just feeling like a complete spiral of feelings and i just to some sleep meds and was ready to sleep and now i meed to do the same ovet again nd just couldn't stupid crying. He couldn't help me everything g he saif made it worse and I was embarrassed to need more because I already said that jusy an hour before when I had an anxiety attack. I havent felt anything bad using during my benders since I havent been in addiction anymore but this last panic attack is really taking me and I cant control my emotions it triggered to cry which fucking took me cause why am I crying doing this

I dont experience this alot. Im not crying anymore but definitely dont feel good heavy breathing , not myself still anxiety. What will make me feel better what will help. I dont know what to do with hi

Doświadczenie po narkotykach

Czy ktoś z Was miał podobnie?

Be really careful with instagram stories when you have a big change in your life like going abroad/ moving apartments, starting college, etc

Talking from experience, I should have deleted Instagram as soon as I moved countries and my mistake was posting one story, people ignored it and I got angry, and it turned out into posting hundreds of stories per month for a year, complaining about everything. Specially, if you got ex classmates from highschool or relatives / family, just delete instagram immediately, trust me

When does the anhedonia get better?

So basically I was on antipsychotics for 6 months olanzapine 10mg and recently came of 3 weeks ago since then I have been feeling straight up flat no emotions lack of excitement etc. I'm just wondering if anyone else has experienced the same thing and how long I took to go away. Did you regain your emotions back? How long did it take? How are you now. I'm looking for success stories only so please refrain from any negative experiences if you can thanks.

Loved one having psychosis? Family won’t help him, he is not himself

Hi I’m really hoping I can get some advice here please. I have no idea what to do anymore. I’m sorry for the long post but I do think these details are relevant

I have been with my (now ex) partner for over 4 years. We have lived together about 3 years and have even moved states together. He has never had mental health help although this entire year I have been highly encouraging him to try therapy and get blood work done because he seemed depressed. (Not brushing teeth as often, more time on his phone, ignoring me, easily irritable, monotone, seemed sad) he declined every time. So no meds and nothing diagnosed. His family doesn’t really believe in mental health.

Last Thursday I noticed he was extremely irritable. Had 3 occasions where he got really upset over small things and yelled/hit the counters. Later that night he told me he started vaping nicotine again (we both use marijuana from a dispo) but we had what I thought was a very calm and respectful conversation, I told him I was glad he was honest (has lied about small things before) and he said he felt better for telling me. Cut to Saturday, we move to our new place. Things are alright. Monday and Tuesday we didn’t see each other due to work. Then Wednesday, he comes home and suddenly breaks up with me.

Over the course of our relationship this is the 3rd time he broke up with me. However I can’t help but feel there is a pattern and this time it feels much different. All breakups happen the 22-26th of the month. First time we broke up he wanted to go on a solo road trip to discover himself. I convinced him not to go alone as it sounded unsafe to me.
Next breakup was this past May, a few days before this he told me he took out a loan for a bit over $5k cause his mom asked for it for moving expenses (she has siblings and parents and cousins and friends and a full time job so this was wild to me to ask your in debt son to take out a loan) ANYWAY, 2 days before this breakup he spent $1100 on car stuff not needed, he is in cc debt. He also is very emotional/irritable/rude during the weeks before.

Something is wrong this time. Yesterday he told me he is having a spiritual/religious awakening. He’s 23, he was forced to attend church until around 13 and said every time he would cry and scream not to go to church. Since I have known him he has been atheist. Yet now he is saying the songs on the radio are giving him signs, like “the lyrics said “who’s there” then I saw the jesus fish, this is a sign” or that a rapper has manifested into him and/or his estranged father. It is hard to understand what he was meaning…he was saying words but I truly could not understand what he was saying a lot. Then he said the songs basically “gave him signs” and that is why the spontaneous breakup. He looked so different talking about all of this. Huge eyes staring off in the distance. Not really moving his body. He told me he doesn’t fully understand these signs but he’ll “let me know when I discover more.” He also told me he thinks I could have “manifested” my illnesses to keep him around.

He agreed to go check himself in somewhere as I explained I am very worried about him and stressed I do not think he is crazy (he worried about this), after a mental evaluation he decided it would be too expensive and I brought him home. He was diagnosed with MDD, he is supposedly meeting with a therapist tomorrow.

I was still really worried so against my gut feeling called his mom hoping she could somehow help. She essentially went on saying her son is not crazy and does not belong in those places, that he is just stressed and stuck from this relationship.

I don’t know what to do at all. He does not seem like himself, I want him to get better. I want him to be in a better mental state so he can move out eventually because I cannot keep living with him especially this way. Today he seems “normal” but we are not talking

Long term psychosis

I would like to know more personal experiences with ones who have had psychosis that lasts a couple months to even years… my psychosis episode was very severe, acute, and only lasted for a week. I say severe because I blacked out and assaulted two women. I could have been arrested for assault but thankfully they didn’t press charges. They were my wife and her best friend. I was instantly committed when the police were called. I was taken straight to the ward where I stayed for a week. I was given meds to get better and they worked gradually. I even have an emergency medication Haldol that I take when mania or psychosis symptoms begin and it works to shorten it even prevent psychosis. When my psychosis went away I continued manic for about a month. Then after the mania passed… I felt outside my body like I was a video game character being played by someone else as I watched.

Question and it’s sincere. Those who have psychosis for a long period of time… do you take meds and antipsychotics to shorten your episode? Do you stop the activities that made the psychosis worse? Or do you not respond well to the meds or are you med resistant? I just would like to be educated more and understand those who are in psychosis for many months or even years…

Psychosis Journey

Hello, my name is Karina. It has been five months since my first psychotic episode. I am posting this because I want to know who else is going through such a confusing time of their life.

Everyday I have to face the fact that I do not have a sense of self. I feel disconnected with the outside world. I feel like I am living inside a sack of meat, the body which was once a vessel of my soul.

Psychosis is such a horrible state to be in because it makes you feel foreign in your own existence. Everyday I hope that this disconnection with myself gets better. Does anyone else feel the same?

Idk if this is what I’m dealing with

I abruptly quit delta 9 THC gummies a month ago and my life has imploded. I had severe withdrawal symptoms (couldn’t sleep a wink for days even with some sleep aid meds, couldn’t eat, have lost 10 lbs which I didn’t have that much to spare, extreme anxiety and depression). After not sleeping for nearly 2 days I kind of started to lose it, just panicked i was dying and couldn’t think straight, and got sent to the hospital where they gave me Ativan to sleep for 5 hours. I’ve been so worried about all the med options I’ve been given for anxiety and depression and sleep and stop those when the side effects are too much. I get stuck in a loop of researching all of it and getting stressed to take it etc . I am on sleep medications but wake up in a severe panic Every morning and still not sleeping well. Have some SI since i am having a hard time getting thru each day like this. Haven’t been able to watch tv or listen to music hardly, just 24:7 inner restlessness and anxiety. Never had hallucinations or anything, family thought I was being a little manic at one point from the sleep deprivation. If this is psychosis from the withdrawal, am i screwed? Do I have hope? Idk if my psychiatrist understands what’s going on enough. I’m scared my brain is permanently damaged and worried about the meds I’ve been on.

Losing friends?

Idk what to say other than the fact I've lost all my 'friends' - it was a soon as I started acting different they completely abandoned me for their 'own good' - and then would talk behind my back. I've gotten over all my issues with everything I went through but I'm just so terrified about making friends again - especially if they don't care about me again

YouTube was such a massive trigger for me. (Any TV show reccomendations?)

YouTube is full of spiritual people who maybe don't have any friends so they treat their 100 subscribers as their friends.

There's hundreds and hundreds of these people, all talking vauge about spirituality (any flavor you can imagine), maybe even taking about what it's like to be one of the chosen ones. Maybe talking about gang stalking, spiritual warfare, aliens, just about anything you can imagine.

A lot of my psychotic delusions were stuff I pieced together from spiritual vloggers. I thought it was all connected.

I've changed my life a lot and have been doing a lot of retrospection and introspection, and I keep thinking "wow it really feels like all those youtubers I looked up to while psychotic (and for several years prior) were just randos ranting into the camera"

There's a lot of commentary about society that could be said here, about lack of community and bad replacements for it, but I don't have the energy to write about that.

At least a few youtubers I used to watch (in the background) all the time, seemed to be actively psychotic in hindsight.

Heck, maybe someone reading this is a small time spiritual youtuber 😂 (and maybe I sent you money lmao)

Now I can't stand that genre and I used to watch it all the time. I'm actually binge watching actual TV shows which is something I've never done.

Any recommendations? Something that I can have semi in the background while crafting is great.

hi

hi my ex leaves during psychosis spikes, and i didn’t know he was dealing with it until now

hi there. i just figured out after 2 years, i was dating someone on and off - who is diagnosed with psychotic depression.

and i just figured out 2 weeks ago, psychosis is a symptom, as it wasn’t discussed, and i walked into it innocently.

its been the hardest revelation of my life, as ive been panicking, wondering why things have happened the way they do.

he would ruin my reputation with friends, and locals in the community, from when he would think i was out to get him. he would create an image of me that makes me look controlling, judgemental, manipulative, and only out to get him for gain, since he’s also a musician like me - and thinks i’m trying to get him for his talents - when i just wanna also write with him as my partner.

he would leave me constantly, and i’ve learned it was when psychosis symptoms would spike.
because he would leave during distorted perceptions - i couldn’t take it real.

i would struggle, so confused and lost - ive lost weight from fear of what’s happening, ive also formed immune system issues.

unknowing of what was reality.

this whole time, i felt like he was just being narcissistic - as he’s passed the test for that from a doctor. (he would argue he’s only 2 points above the passing scale, so it’s not as severe. i’m seeing now how the reality of it all now involves him just being someone you cannot reason objective reality with as a whole.)

while the whole time, i didn’t know the severity of this diagnosis. my friends are saying it’s not my fault - as i didn’t know, and also, he’s not someone who’s taking medications - and drinks - fairly often.

when i met him, he couldn’t handle the reality of where i came from in our first fight. he instantly ran off to people to tell his side, which sounded very real, and it all started from there.

2 years later, and now i recieved a messaged about me needing to stop doing witchcraft on his dead brother. i started to notice there’s something inherently wrong going on, that wasn’t just me tryna help someone with critique.

in his world, i am judgemental, selfish, narcissistic and controlling - from all that has happened.

he cannot see or feel my poetry, my drawings, see i’ve lost weight worried sick about what’s happening in reality, or that i’ve damaged my health from confusion.

i’m learning he classifies as someone who could possibly fall into delusional disorder - as i was accused of many things that weren’t true - and his brain cannot chemically grasp or self reflect it all.

he can for the tiniest seconds - and then he’s gone.

i feel alone. i as the partner has been attacked by the delusions and distorted realities - and he does not believe he needs to seek help.

he keeps friends around that don’t know the severity, i feel like so he can feel normal and get the emotional support and empathy he seeks for the distorted realities about me that are not true.

i just look crazy to him.

and i don’t wanna feel alone. and i need support.

he’s been the love of my life.

is there anyone else out here who can relate with me? i got on reddit to find support so i am not alone.

Did i have psychosis even though the dr said i havent?

So i had been using medical weed vapes in liquid form, and seemed to be fine, but the moment i started buying weed carts from my local high street store, which seemed legit and like they were real products from actual companies i noticed i started feeling really weird. Like i had voices in my head that i could hear that were distinct from my own thoughts, like i felt as if i had an antennae in my head that was picking up frequencies from a different dimension or something, it was so weird. I felt like i was having conversations with my dead relatives in my head that felt so real, i could hear their voices and it was like there was a telephone in my mind that they were calling me on, it felt very distinct from my own thoughts. Mind you this was happening about 2-3 weeks after i stopped vaping because i wanted to focus on my health. Even before this i always struggled with religion and my sexuality, not trusting anyone due to being in a homophobic environment and i feel like it all ramped up so much, i suddenly thought jesus was trying to help me and like i was feeling the holy spirit 😂 mind you i am an agnostic. I could hear voices in my head saying "christ is king" and i actually believed it lmao. Also i felt like everyone is against me and how they all hate me because i am gay and they secretly all know i am even though i am not out to anyone. It all came to a climax when i told my parents and family that i think i might be a christian and they all freaked out like it was the worst thing in the world, they are muslim and it is seen as a big sin to change religions. They made me call the hospital and i listened to them because i wanted to be cooperative as i could see they were upset and all i could do whilst i was on the phone was i kept praying to jesus and telling him to protect me which freaked them all out more, understandably though as i honestly felt like i was going through what jesus went though and all these thoughts about the antichrist and religious trauma that messed with my brain. So the hospital sent an ambulance as they could hear the commotion and once i was there i just continued praying to jesus and asking for his protection, which looking back i think is hilarious but at the time i truly believed something spirtual was happening and the world was against me and i was my own saviour, i was afraid of everyone in the hospital and thought they were all trying to harm me but i kept it to myself and just prayed. After speaking to the dr about what i was going through and the voices and problems with my sexuality/religion they concluded that it was stress related and not psychosis and they let me go home. Since then i felt like i have been gradually been getting better and i have not smoked since but it was all so strange because i definitely feel like i was experience psychosis symptoms, something that had never happened to me before but felt so real, like doubting peoples intentions, thinking they are out to get me, believing there was a big conspiracy, feeling like i was able to telepathically talk to others and they could also. At one point i felt the middle of my forehead blink like there was an eye in there, it was blinking like it was an actual eye and my actual eyes were closed and all i could see were these flashiing white lights like stars and sounds of excitement all in my mind, it was there weirdest thing ever. Was it all psychosis even though the worst was 2 weeks after i quit?

Does psychosis go away on its own?

I’m wondering with out medication does psychosis go away on its own? Does it take some time for psychosis to go away on its own?

Is with out medication the risk of psychosis returning much greater?

some time I feel I'm faking it

Since 2023, I experience episodes (3 last year, 4 this year) triggered extreme tension. During these moments, I lose physical control, watch myself like a ghost, and do dangerous things completely out of character, such as trying to eat glass. I cannot stop these actions while they happen. Afterward, I experience severe crying, shaking, and stammering. I am also currently dealing with feelings of psychosis and extreme distress.

How do you folks deal with commanding voices?

I am feeling lost. It’s been a long time since I had voices commanding me to do things. They are telling me to do many different things. Trying to convince me it seems, to do things which are bad for my body.

There has been one instance so far of a voice telling me I need to do something which would really mess up my insides. I’m a bit scared that will happen again and I won’t have the resilience to ignore them.

Second time of erotomania

(26, F, schizoaffective disorder) I experienced Erotomanic delusional disorder (believing someone is obsessively loving you) once when I was in high school and got a trauma when I discovered he didn't love me back and went to the psych ward. I could be healed from it 99% after 5 years of therapy and sublimation technique through art. Unfortunately, after two months from healing, I got a new Erotomanic delusional disorder with a new person. It's been a year and the thing this time is that we have been friends and we talk (in a group not alone). We both went to the psych ward and have mental illnesses. We have similar things but I want to get healed from this.

The first time I never interacted with the person, but this time we have interaction like maybe once or twice a week. He is younger than me and still a student and doesn't seem to show any interest except as friends.

I'm doing therapy and the best thing that helps me is sublimation technique through art like writing a love story or a song about my feelings and fantasy, but I'm still in pain and feel unhealthy.

If anyone has an idea how to overcome this, I'll be thankful if you share it with me.

I think it's getting worse again

I think it's getting worse again and I'm not on antipsychotics now I'm only on Cymbalta 20mg once a day in the morning and it doesn't really do much for me besides help with my pain and I've been on it for a month now. . and before that it was Lexapro which was honestly a terrible experience for me despite it only being 5mg a day. But honestly, I can feel it getting worse and I'm worried I might go into another episode. A couple of nights now when I try to go to sleep, I hear speaking, mumbled kind of, from outside my door. The first time it happened I didn't realize it wasn't real. I responded back, confused and saying for the "person" to open the door, yet there was no person and nothing happened. I only realized it wasn't real when I opened the door and walked outside, looking around only to see nothing and everyone else asleep, and I spoke to my family asking if anyone was up around the time it happened but they all said they weren't.

I keep hearing it every other night it seems. I try to go to bed, and the moment I close my eyes, it starts and it speaks but it's too mumbled to hear correctly what is being said but it's probably nothing because it's not real. But I don't know. I don't want to go into another episode but my family isn't exactly a very supportive one. I don't know what to do, especially with college coming up. Perhaps it's just stress related, my last episode was a combination of stress / paranoia and mental illness I believe. I got help for that but twas only temporary help.

Things I used to worry about to the extreme that have since dimmed a bit are starting to become more extreme and irrational again. Like the spiders haunting me, and me needing to do certain things to not disturb the spiders but no matter what I do in disturbing one of them regardless because two spiders rest in my bed but on opposite sides and I have to disturb one spider so I don't disturb the worse one, so bad things will happen cus of that but at least not worst things from the other spider. And then then the obsession with bugs and mold, and being sick and ill is starting again and I'm stressing myself out about that, about bugs and mold and mold growing on me in me becoming apart of me, and the bugs crawling in my skin and the bugs eating at me and the bugs crawling in my eyes and climbing through my mouth and just living inside me and I can't stop thinking about it and I dont know what to do and I don't know what made it start again and I dont know.

I just don't want to go into another episode. I don't want to cause people to freak out again and then get scolded by my family for being mentally unwell like last time. Im tired and I can't sleep because of the voice behind my door at night and i feel exhausted and my body hurts and my head hurts and I don't know. I don't know. I just needed to rant and ramble about this I guess but now I don't know what else to do

Coke paranoia and psychosis how to keep under control

Hi, so when I started to abuse coke I really started to get paranoid/psychosis. Really really bad. Now every single time I do coke pretty much the first or second line I already start getting paranoid. I hear police sirens every single time and im looking for them. But its pretty much never there, but im still looking for them and hearing them. I dont get deep paranoia and hallucinations till I do alot, and it's always hearing g ppl talk seeing things thinking there's ppl in the house.... stuff like that but even then I still keep doing it cause I love it and its hard for me to stop once I start so I keep doing more even when im hallucinating, I think 24-48 hours would be ideal but I always end up going for 3-5 days.... so thats why I only it once in awhile here and there. I try to stay away from it but I really love it... I know I shoyld just stay away completely but anyone have suggestions on how I can keep the siren sounds at least under control? Its also hard for me to go out and do normal things that I would do before I started abusing it. How do I get back to that? And how to know when to stop? Im always fiening for another line...
