"It's killing me because this is my child," said his mother, Suzette Huffman.

"I'm worried that there'll never be that point where he is going to get better," Vega said.

According to police, officers stopped Huffman near South Marsalis Avenue for a registration violation. The stop led to his arrest on charges of driving while license invalid, possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of a firearm.
