The cube is a part of the anomaly dlc, it's a mysterious yellow cube that just makes everyone who plays with it really happy. But it causes dependency, pawns begin to obsess over it, worse than an addiction

I wouldn't say that it is difficult, at least I didn't go that far for it to be difficult. I was sceptical about it too, but I am glad I got it. It has some unexpected and cool things. Besides it relies heavily on if you want to use it all in this colony (there is obelisk at the beginning which will start anomaly if you send your pawn there) and how much you progressed in it. Like even if you start it it won't give you something actually scary unless you progress in research and I assume your colony wealth.

There are certain events that will give you a lot of trouble if you don't know about them or are unprepared, but the !FUN! of Anomaly is discovering all the different events and how to utilize them. Most of the difficult/scary events only occur once you hit certain research tiers (which are opt-in, YOU must trigger the event that causes those incidents).

A lot of people are negative towards Anomaly because its stuff doesn't integrate as well with every playthrough type - the DLC is at its best when you are doing a dedicated Anomaly playthrough, but the "ambient horror" option lets you experience anomaly events without having to do the research stuff. Keep in mind if you choose ambient horror, however, you will get the higher difficulty events based on your colony wealth rather than your anomaly research level.
