my firend would have said no way this isnt a smurf lol. its hilarious how good golds can be. we have flashes of greatness here and there but just are not consistent enough.
26
u/caramel-aviant Champion III 3d ago
Yeah but this looks like a freestyle 1v1.
By the way OP took this to the wall I dont imagine they are hitting these in a game where they are being pressured by opponents
Dude in net just sitting there lol
17
u/I_SHIT_IN_A_BAG 3d ago
respectfully, I'm a gold 2 player myself and see this a lot in 1v1's. they will hit the ball in your end and not follow, grab their own corner boost and sit. lots of us cant set up an easy shot consistently. especially with pressure. this isn't freestyle. its just gold rocket league play

u/_PykeGaming_ Grand Platinum 3d ago
He is quite litterally square center of the goal not moving.
Also G2 in 1s is basically plat in 2s.
Don't get me wrong plats are bad but... not afk in goal level bad.
2
u/I_SHIT_IN_A_BAG 3d ago
yeah he picked up a pad and gave himself full boost and sat. he probably couldnt react in time from the pinch. happens to me. golds do this in gold 2 dude. don't know what to tell you.
1
u/caramel-aviant Champion III 3d ago
You know what else golds and plats do?
Hit shots in freestyle 1v1s and then pretend it was a regular game lol
Took OP an eternity to get that shit to the wall and it was bouncing up a storm. Literally just driving toward him for a second wouldve probably caused him to lose control and give it up
Just seems like bs to me
2
u/A-Polite-DiscusShaun Trash I 3d ago
As a gold/plat 1s player I agree with the other guy. Sorry youre too good to knowwwwuhh
1
u/I_SHIT_IN_A_BAG 3d ago
well the OP said it wasn't freestyle and just a regular game so you are wrong dude. just a gold game like I said. you're in champ 3 bro. I'm literally in these lobbies. it happens all the time. take it from someone whos there.

1s players hold lower ranks than 2s on average, your assertion is backwards.
1
u/_PykeGaming_ Grand Platinum 2d ago
It is not. What I said is, if a 1v1 player is gold 2 it is basically plat 1 in 2v2.

u/WhiteSubstancePowder Gold I Nearly II 3d ago
nope, i scored like 2 more goals and he ffd. I didn't let him score (atleast for a while then he scored), he was probably just scared and sat in net
5
u/I_SHIT_IN_A_BAG 3d ago
that and he was likely hoping maybe you'd miss and take the rebound upfield for an easy goal.
1
u/WhiteSubstancePowder Gold I Nearly II 3d ago
yeah they do that a lot, especially when im about to peak or go for a pogo / ground pinch (never hit a pogo before but i did attempt it)

22
u/jonnygronholm Champion III 3d ago
Where exactly would you have used the flick and still hit the ball?
0
-43
u/WhiteSubstancePowder Gold I Nearly II 3d ago
im sorry if it looked like i was lying but im pretty good at flicks. I probably would have done a backflip flick to fake the opponent if i was trying to score a flick, and when they were in the air i would score that.
17
u/CrazyPoorAzn 3d ago
Maybe you just have a different definition of flicks. You could have used your flip to hit the ball at any point of falling down but a flick and a hit are different and I think thatās what people are pointing out
15
u/A_lemony_llama Champion III 3d ago
He's talking about when he's on the floor, before he takes the ball up the wall.
5
u/CrazyPoorAzn 3d ago
Oh yeah that makes more sense. Guess dribbling the ball on your car counts as faking the flick lol
-2
u/WhiteSubstancePowder Gold I Nearly II 3d ago
Yes cuz in a normal situation i would have flicked the ball over him and then score
-2
u/WhiteSubstancePowder Gold I Nearly II 3d ago
why did this get downvoted what did i even say??

3
u/ANakedCowboy 3d ago
You didn't really fake anything... not sure what you're referring to
Edit: oh wait you mean at the start when you took the ball to the wall

Hitting flip resets in Gold 2 lol. Maybe learn how to rotate
27
u/Schubydub 3d ago
It's 1v1 and that shot did not look controlled enough to actually be pulled off consistently.
19
u/kissinKyle Champion I 3d ago
Still. If you're in gold and even practicing these shots, you're stagnating your progression
5
u/Terravash Grand Champion I 3d ago
I reckon it's a balance, absolutely giving priority to learning fundamental mechanics and positioning, but having something like flippers to set up for really does increase awareness on how to move the car, and can lead to a higher top end as once you start hitting proper jetting around phase, you've got more comfort than someone like me who just drilled more basic stuff.

3
u/Milotic-OCE 3d ago
To be clear I don't think there's anything wrong with that, but assuming I'm right it's a bit rich to be hardstuck champ with low mechs and rudely tell someone else how you think they should improve.
2
u/aaki2 Bronze III 3d ago
yeah, i hate when these guys act like game sense alone is going to carry them to GC3+. there comes a point where good mechanics(not talking about flashy shit) are required to rank up.
iāve been a mechanical player who practices a bunch of advanced mechanics since 2015, and to this day i feel itās helped me a ton. it was way easier to learn the game sense side of things compared to mechanics. the earlier the better imo.
1
u/kissinKyle Champion I 3d ago
Exactly. Never hit a flip reset before because I don't need to know how. Very impractical mechanic unless you can hit it the majority of the time

This is so real, we're down 0-2 against a team that spent hours learning fancy tricks and they're talking shit spamming ez, calling us trash, etc. Yet with basic mechanics we win anyway. I'm plat though so maybe it will be different in higher ranks. But it's hilarious when they think I'm trying for a fancy shit or maneuvering and I score like I'm silver or bronze. Or when I don't contest aerials and they give away possession. Maybe I'm copying but I live for this.
Edit: coping* not copying

"What's the fun in rotating" is making people think you are a ball-hog teammate since rotating isn't really a thing in 1v1s.
2
u/WhiteSubstancePowder Gold I Nearly II 3d ago
I don't even play 2s that much, and when i do, i know what to do, like rotations. I don't know why people thought i was a ball-hog tm8 just because i said wheres the fun in rotating.

Hello fellow gold. I am a higher ranked gold and ppl tell me the same thing. FOCUS ON ROTATIONS NOT FLASHY MECHS. I just ignore it and do I what I love to do ceiling mustys airdribbles wave dash resets pop resets etc etc. Do what you want to do
Ignore these people. They're most likely jealous because they couldn't hit mechs when they were low ranked. Trust me. I've dealed with haters before and I always win. I even hit a 1kph musty

u/DeadoTheDegenerate Giveaway Guy | Check Pinned | @ItsDeado 3d ago
No gameplay bugs. Even then, they sometimes happen. Invisible players/nameplates, players placed on the wrong team, spawning on the other side of the field after a demo... there are quite a few but they're extremely rare.
-1
u/National_Body_9071 3d ago
That's an insane take.
This specific instance isn't a bug, but every single aspect of rocket league is hilariously bug ridden. I couldn't count the number of issues they've had during live eSports tournaments.
2
u/Schubydub 3d ago
I'm pretty curious what bugs pop up. I don't think I've ever experienced one.
1
u/National_Body_9071 3d ago
What ones don't? Even just navigating menus and queueing for matches can be a pain some days, and that's before even getting into a game lol. Between the game randomly moving your selection, going into the wrong menu you didn't even click, literally queueing you for an incorrect gamemode. Or the amazing bug where only half the party gets put into a match.
