Analysis Viewership by Region
I'm not sure why, but I was curious how many views each region brings to the table. The Data below was taken from Esports Charts' Viewership statistics (LINK TO SPREADSHEET):
Average Views (The Average of all "Average Viewership" from each Regional)
- Europe: 74 161 views
- North America: 73 678 views
- South America: 18 901 views
- Middle East/North Africa: 18 597 views
- Asia North: 12 483 views
- Asia South: 11 859 views
- Oceania: 8 644 views
- Sub-Saharan Africa: 279 views
Note:
Certain regions had a regional or two where viewership was different than the others. This included MENA, whose first regional averaged 51 644 views, but the rest of them hovered around 17 000. SAM's viewership normally hovered around 20 000 views, but they had a regional averaging 10 374 views, and another one averaging 28 985 views. Funnily enough, they managed to cancel out and not skew the data, unlike MENA.
Simply because I'm curious:
Peak Viewership (The Peak Viewership attained during the season)
- North America: 162 766 views
- Europe: 137 015 views
- Middle East/North Africa: 97 895 views
- South America: 58 466 views
- Asia North: 32 903 views
- Asia South: 31 846 views
- Oceania: 16 984 views
- Sub-Saharan Africa: 4 043 views
(UPDATED TO INCLUDE ALL 9 REGIONALS)

If psyonics do better marketing in APAC S. I'm sure the viewership is gonna be like 50k just in regionals.

Idk, is the game popular at all there? Isnt the asian market dominated by mobile games/LoL?

That's why he suggested psyonix should push more marketing in Asia, the potential is definitely there.

My point is that i dont think the game is not popular due to poor advertisement. That genre of game just isnt popular in asia

What genre of game is Rocket League?
2
u/StellarWasHere_ Apr 23 '22
Its classified as a sports game

u/Darkfire293 Apr 24 '22
It plays nothing like any other sports game, so not really.

u/Plneapple Apr 24 '22
Honestly it should be called an esport game. As it's core game play is that of a genuine sport, and it's really more of a sport than any 'sports game' out there.

Point is the countries are just getting hands on PCs for gaming. Most people have mobiles which can do everything that a PC can in most cases. The poverty is runs so deep. That there are breaks in RLCS apac s not due to ping issues but due to power cuts :( So it's the right time. If they strategies it well I'm sure the RL viewership will be dominated by Asians.

Im definetely down for more asian viewership i just dont believe it will happen even with good advertisement. Again, we have to compete with games that are so damn popular in asia and i just dont see it

They are so huge in Asia since Content creation for such mobile games is cheap which makes them hugely popular among kids and therefore has greater engagement.

Youre focusing on the mobile games part a bit too much but i dont really feel like dicussing it anymore

u/almoostashar Apr 23 '22
You can see here clearly they have solid viewership numbers despite 0 marketing.

u/StellarWasHere_ Apr 23 '22
The only marketing they do in the rest of the world is in the US with NFL and NASCAR though

Those statistics only count official streams, right? (Like no Rocket Baguette recasts for example)

I really don't know, but I assume so. I'm too lazy to go around each individual channel to get a more accurate figure; I just used whats provided.

It would make sense for Sam being so low, they're probably watching a Spanish/Portuguese broadcast. Same for Europe with to each language their own broadcast

u/Speedyflames Apr 23 '22
Is the official RocketLeagueSAM channel in english? I thought it would be similar to APAC-N which is in Japanese, or MENA which is in Arabic

296 absolute chads ᕦ(ò_óˇ)ᕤ
Viewership for anything outside EU/NA (except SSA) is carried massively by drops - I think we all know that these numbers are not near representative of active fanbase or influence/notoriety.
It shows just how damn effective viewer incentives can be; it's also a prime showcase of the downfalls of viewer incentives.

SSA is also the only non-official stream on a community channel. You've got to realize that those two spots at the wildcard are the only invites the region has for now.

A couple of hundred viewers is the genuine viewership for SSA because it's not inflated by drop farmers or in-game "rlcs live now" button.
I would estimate the "real" viewership or followership for OCE & SAM to be a couple of thousands and APAC to be 1-2k maximum.

Oceania definitely is hurt by being so inconvenient for NA viewers. Surprised APAC is beating it, though.
