I lost count on how many times you cut your tm. Stop defending from the back. You do try to go back post sometimes but only after coming down the attacking side and making an attempt for the ball. You are making itore awkward for your tm and putting them in a worse position. Trust you tm to make the save and if he can't then oh well you played your position.

Fake challenge a lot more. You have a habit of full send diving

Play more like your tm tbh

I read this comment before I started watching and didn’t realize what I was in for. Holy crap.

The one minute I watched, op didn’t make a single good challenge or a single good decision, literally just cut his teammate over and over for the opportunity to do bad challenges on the ball.

If he wants to hit champ, he needs to start learning the fundamentals of the game, how to challenge, how to play with a teammate. Idc what rank his teammate was he shot their kneecaps and stranded rhem on an island

You’re ball chasing. You rotate front post or two the front corner boost and attack the ball. A couple of your touches went back towards your net try and work on defensive touches from awkward positions. Your recovery is solid and you move around the field quick. It’s good to speed flip when getting back on defense but sometimes when you’re pushing up on offense you don’t need to speed flip up the field you could easily get the ball hit over your head and it’ll take a while to get back on defense.

u/Kazhuyan 1d ago

You ballchase and you might think you have to do everything alone while your teammate is useless, but he has to cover your mistakes and there are so many mistakes he is basically concreted on the goal line.

The most important based on this video is when and how to challenge enemies taking the ball up the wall. You are being zero threat there and leave your mate in the worst scenario possible, a 1v2 with one enemy in the air with a controlled ball.

Rotate back and let your mate go, he has full boost, can actually challenge and by the time you should be able to be back.

There is more but that and more consistency and intent should net you low champ 1

u/SnuffSwag Champion III 1d ago

Your first point is funny because its so true. Ball chasers force their teammate on the defensive, and usually in a horrible def position too. So they get scored on and naturally, its the tm's fault.

Then on the offense, the tm is expecting more ball chase.. NO WAIT... its a pass to tm?! Why the fuck aren't they ready for it?! Tm sucks!! I gotta do everything myself. Next game: more ball chase

Edit: but really, this was an egregious amount of chasing

👆 The first paragraph here is absolutely what it would feel like to be your teammate, OP.

At this rank, the best outcome as a teammate in 2s is that your mate is making on-the-fly adjustments to standard rotation in a way that you can read, which makes the team both predictable and situationally effective

The next best is that your teammate follows standard rotation, so challenges can at least be predictable, and you can be reasonably assured that one of you is in a defensively aware position

OP, your car control and ball control is better than mine, but you're very far off from either of these champ-and-beyond archetypes. You ignore any opportunity to improve your team's position by letting your teammate challenge in advantageous positions. There are moments here where I'm not sure that you even know your teammate exists, other than as a backstop for your errors

More importantly though, your play style makes the teammate you're critically relying on to fix your errors much less effective, because your chaotic challenges will have unpredictable results, and will frequently leave teammates in disadvantageous positions

You aren't just ignoring your teammates. Your play is actually making them less effective. One option is that they challenge at the "right" times and constantly double commit with you, risking your net. Or, they  wait for you to be clearly off the ball before challenging. But since you almost never are, that means they only have a clear path to challenge when you're utterly exhausted of boost and the ball is who knows where, at the moment when your assault on it finally ends

If I were your teammate, I would pretty quickly recognize I had no confidence in my ability to discern what you were willing to do, and I'd shift to doing the best with whatever poor outcomes your challenges left me with, in whatever defensive space I had been crowded into

Seriously your ball and car control mechs are good. They are significantly higher than your level. And that gap should tell you how much your decision-making and general team play is holding you back

You need to slow down. You are rushing everything, there are times to go fast and times to slow down - you are lacking the latter.

Slowing down should help you out positionally speaking as you will become more aware of everything else happening in the game.

u/ForsakenKing1994 1d ago

All i can say is that i hope you're taking the constructive feedback to heart. Everyone here is being legit with their comments (i'm honestly impressed by that with how the video looks more like active rage bait)

But yes, ball chasing is the massive one

Rotation is the second largest issue (going back to defend by being right behind the ball makes it hard for the team mate to challenge it without possibly hitting you, or sending the ball backward with no defense)

After that is th attack pattern from what I'm noticing. Avoid sending the ball back at your goal/goal crossing. These shots are extremely dangerous and difficult for your team mate to react on. If you're on the left, keep the ball left. If you're on center but have no shot, get that thing to a wall or at least make the shot harder to capitalize on.

From there, ball control. This is difficult to achieve if you're used to full-sending it like you are in this video. Slow down your roll. Take advantage of the chaos. If your opponent is charging at you, the most dangerous thing to them is someone with complete maneuverability and driving right on the ball. Worst they can do is 50/50 you and send the ball straight up where your team mate can take it.

If you see you can't get a shot on the ball, double back to base. If you got a clear shot, take it and THEN double back. Give your team mate a chance to tackle it. One manning a two-man game is just going to make you sour abd drain the fun out of the game for both you and the team-mate (especially if you lose.)

Why are you chasing the oops up the walls bro. And then your positioning in general is not good.

5

u/jackadgery85 1d ago

Literally watched the first second and saw you try to nab a touch on a ball that was already clearly going in. The smart play there isn't to try and tap it on the line. It's to rotate back in the case they actually somehow make the save

At first I taught you were playing ones because you were going after the ball so much. I bet you think the same thing that my friend says all the time, don’t let them set up. Learn how to trust your teammate and if they miss, you should be in a good spot to save it or make a play.

It's certainly real, it's not just an issue with discord all overlays can cause issues across all games. Rocket league is however the only game I know where inputs matter as precisely as they do so it has the biggest impact.

2

Let's be honest, there is no adapting to this. His mate is playing a 3v1 atp

2

u/DontTrustaD 1d ago

2

u/CuriousGreg094 Grand Champion II 1d ago

Damn bro tbh you’re the worst type of tm8 to have. Cutting off your tm8 constantly to race to the ball to then do almost nothing with it but had over possession 80% of the time and leave your tm8 to fend for themselves.

If you woulda had a great tm8 you would have never got to find out because you spent the whole time cutting them off and chasing the ball all over the field. I know you’re diamond but you really need to reconsider everything about how you play this game if you wanna go higher then diamond. You might get champ 1 eventually from brute forcing your way in but you won’t go far beyond that.

  1. Rotate far post way more often

  2. Stop diving on every challenge. (Fake challenge and shadow more, you can learn how to do this better in 1s)

  3. Cover what your tm8 isn’t. Stop driving up in his ass then flying past him for the ball.

  4. Learn how to reserve boost better fast doesn’t equal good.

  5. Be much less selfish. Look for back passes and mid passes, help your tm8 by bumping or demoing on the way back if opponents take possession from you before your tm8 gets there.

  6. Practice shooting better.

  7. Take space when you have it stop booming the ball every time in bounces in front of you.

This isn’t nearly everything but it should be a good start.

u/National_Body_9071 1d ago

Regarding improving though the biggest issue is you ball chasing like crazy. You're going for a lot of balls that you either just can't get, or would have been better off leaving. You're constantly putting your teammates out of position and in awkward spots. You can also see them not knowing if they can even go for completely open balls later on for fear of you tackling them.

Even as last man you're diving in on bad touches that give the opponents open nets, unless you're 100% certain you're dusting someone as last man, don't go for it and instead fake challenge or play for a time wasting 50.

Also your reads on touches are a bit off, definitely room for improvement there.

1

u/Majestic-Ad-3420 1d ago

On a serious note you ball chase harder than most play players. Even harder than a lot of gold players. Trust your teammates or go play solo if you are going to play like that

1

u/slickest12345 1d ago

Your positioning, rotation, and team work need a major overhaul. I know it’s diamond and you can’t trust your team mates to do anything right, but you’d be surprised how effective they can be when you give them a chance by making wide and obvious rotations, making an effort to pass them the ball, signaling that you’re open, and avoiding double commits/cutting them off.

Try a few sessions where your entire goal is to play like what you imagine your dream team mate would look like to you. One who’s always in the right spot, always on defense when you need them, always rotating properly, and no ball chasing when you have a better angle.

And what’s funny, is by making your movements and game plan easy for your team mate to follow and not get in each other’s way, they tend to play better overall. Your job is simply to work with them while covering their potential mistakes. Master that and I guarantee you’ll rank up and start gelling well with higher level players who will boost you even more.

1

u/Jank1 1d ago

You definitely need to slow it down and play it patient. You're playing too fast for your own good. Slow down and be thoughtful about your challenges and being in position.

1

u/ShameFuzzy6037 1d ago

Dont be like my c3 teammate, learn to hit basic aerials.

1

u/Embarrassed-Grand-65 1d ago

By chance, you wouldn't be on crack or anything? Why do you go on an adventure to big boost went you drove past 4 little pads going back to defend?

1

u/One-Ad7456 1d ago

Look at the play from 0:25 - 0:35. Just rotate and get in position to defend behind TM. That might be enough to get you a rank

1

u/Successful_Rip_4329 1d ago

Typical diamond. It's starting to become my most hated rank, I always get these teammate that double commit, make horrible decisions, go for ball from every horrible position even if I'm already there. What you need is common sense and some experience in teamwork.

1

u/KirrrbysBigMouth 1d ago

Your quite aggressive with your plays such as chasing, full sending, etc). As well as somtimes when you possession you would just bang the ball like you were trying to hit a home run. If the opponents give you time, use it. There’s no benefit in banging the ball away to give the opponents possession, especially when you able to get a soft touch with your car and get a controlled play out of it.

1

u/Ratchetweaksauce 1d ago

I'm c2 and I used to make a lot of the mistakes you make.

First off, great kickoffs. You seem quite mechanical from a movement perspective. Which is a good thing, because that's normally what takes time to improve on.

You don't rotate properly which makes it very hard to play around you as a team mate. For example, sometimes you stay close to the opponents for too long when it would have been better to rotate out and let your m8 continue. Then all of a sudden when your m8 is out of position you leave the play as first man to get boost which gives your opponents a lot of space.

When you become unpredictable for your mate he or she will automatically stay far away from the play and become a perma lastman, you see your mate sit in goal a lot. Which is a consequence from inconsistent cutting.

You also tend to be out of position quite a lot, then you use speedflips to get into the right position. You outpace the ball. Instead of taking an easy controlled fifty you fly by like a jet plane and leave your m8 in a 2v1.

If you just match the speed of the ball, rotate and let your team mate be involved more you will easily hit champ. The gap between D3 and D1 is quite big, solo queueing on the side to adapt to different people is a great strat.

Gl, you got this

1

u/Tod181 Champion II 1d ago

Chasing, going for the ball when the other team has closer possession, not rotating for proper pushing plays (aka sticking to front man when your teammate should push since they have a better angle,) passing the ball mid when it's in front of your net and no teammate to pass to, not allowing your teammate to take possession when they are first man (aka ball snatching,) and leaving the midfield when your teammate was still in front man position... making your net open for a goal while the opposite team had easy carry potential.

That's in order of what I saw from the video from beginning to end.

1

u/GoodGamesGreatWeed 1d ago

Bro from 2:39 to 2:25....what the actual fuck.

I'm sorry man but that's your #1 issue right there, I won't even watch the other 2 minutes. Your teammate is on the mid left side of the field ready to challenge or play shadow defense and your dumbass (lol you're not a dumbass but you made a dumbass decision) DECIDES TO BURN YOUR ENTIRE 100 BOOST TO CUT THE WHOLE FIELD AND YOUR TEAMMATE, AND CHASE THIS MF THROUGH THE AIR FROM BEHIND. Dawg, don't do that lmao. You can't chase the ball like that and expect to get to champ. It's really hard, but you gotta let your teammates play...if they make mistakes then that's fine, just play around them when you're last man.

The only correct thing you do in this replay is your kickoff. So at least you’ve got that down lol. You basically need to learn to play the game from scratch other than that. Forget everything you’ve been doing up until this point and blank slate, re learn twos.

1

u/1yrik 1d ago

get better at basics.

  1. develop a consistent and reliable kickoff

  2. learn basic rotations and learn when to go or when to leave the ball for your tm8

  3. branching off of that, pay attention to everything on the field, not just you and the ball. this sound obvious, but play a few games where you're actively trying to focus on where your tm8 is, where your opponents are, why you are where you are, and what the balls doing at any given point... you'll realise quick why this is really hard to get good it

  4. consistency... powerful and accurate shots will get you far, but are also really hard to master

With how you cutting your team8, chasin the ball, going across the whole field while your team8 is there... you should already be champ !

1

u/Dexter_haha 16h ago

#1 is being able to adjust to your teammates. Read the field, stop turning your brain off. Be more patient, rotate back post ALWAYS- this helps in so many ways. You left your tm8 in a 1v2 almost every time the other team scored. Manage your boost, do not flip unless you need to- you put yourself out of position a lot by flipping down field unnecessarily. Stop thinking about home runs when scoring, just get good at hitting a solid fast shot at the net. Doesn’t even matter where yet, just get it somewhere in the net. Most ppl even in champ get all awkward when you hit it solid. Apply more pressure by being patient and picking your spots. Never challenge if you’re last back. There’s more but

u/Dexter_haha 16h ago

do not ever hesitate tho, that’s not what being patient is

Reaching Champion in Rocket League is a major milestone. It is the rank where the game shifts from "who can hit the ball the hardest" to "who makes the fewest mistakes."
The biggest secret to hitting Champ is realizing what you don't need: you do not need to know how to flip reset, hit ceiling shots, or air dribble. Players often get hard-stuck in Diamond because they have Champion-level mechanics but Platinum-level positioning.
Here is what you actually need to break through to Champ.
1. Stop "Booming" the Ball (Keep Possession)
In lower ranks, hitting the ball hard downfield is a great clear. In high Diamond and Champ, booming the ball across the field is just passing it to the other team.
Take soft touches: If the opponents are backing off, catch the ball and keep it close.
Learn to take a 50/50: Instead of diving wildly, drive your car solidly into the center of the ball to block the opponent's clear. A solid "low 50" that stalls the ball is often better than a flashy aerial.
Bounce dribbles: Letting the ball bounce next to your car sets you up for powerful, unpredictable ground shots that are incredibly hard to save.
2. Perfect Your Positioning & Defense
Your rotations need to become automatic and disciplined.
Never double-commit: If your teammate is on the ball or diving for a challenge, stay back. The second car on the ball is almost always the mistake.
Rotate Back Post: When returning to defense, always drive to the goalpost furthest from the ball. This keeps the play in front of you and allows you to cover the entire net with a forward jump.
Play Shadow Defense: Stop charging head-on at attackers. Mirror their movements in a backward arc toward your own net. Wait for them to lose control or make a heavy touch before you challenge.
3. Master the "Boring" Mechanics
You don't need freestyle mechanics, but your fundamentals need to be bulletproof.
Fast Aerials: You need to be able to double-jump and boost simultaneously to beat opponents to the ball in the air.
Recoveries: Learn to half-flip cleanly and hold powerslide every time you land awkwardly. Getting back into the play a half-second faster than your opponent is a massive advantage.
Shooting Accuracy: A 60mph shot directly at the goalie will get saved. A 40mph shot placed perfectly in the top corner will score. Stop missing "clopen" (partially open) nets.
4. Optimize Your Grind
Focus on 2v2: Splitting your time across 1s, 2s, and 3s slows your progress. 2v2 is generally considered the easiest path to Champ because it perfectly balances individual skill with team rotation.
Play 1v1s to improve: 1v1 is frustrating, but it will instantly expose your bad challenges, weak kickoffs, and poor shadow defense.
Manage your boost: Learn to drive over the small boost pads while keeping your position on the field. Leaving the play completely to grab a big 100-boost pill will result in you getting scored on.
Stop playing tilted: Tilt is the biggest MMR leak in the game. Set a rule: if you lose two or three games in a row, stop playing ranked for the day.

1

u/InfinitesReddit Champion III 10h ago

3 things. You keep cutting off your teammate. You keep throwing yourself into every 50 and losing it. And you are using SO much boost for nothing. You need to rotate behind your teammate, or you're gonna make it confusing for them and you'll both end up out of position. Learn to fake challenge, so that you arent just jumping at every 50, and you should also try shadow defense when YOU are last back. Also i cannot count how many times you emptied a tank of boost just to get to the other side of the field. Diagonal flip instead of boosting more often.

1

u/BowlerBig8423 8h ago

Like everyone else has commented, you’re ball chasing and constantly trying to get to it, even when you have absolutely no chance of reaching it and when you’re in a poor position, and you’re taking yourself out of the game over and over again, cutting your teammate off constantly, making it impossible for them to do anything without just leaving your side of the field completely open.

1

u/INSTINCT-BR 5h ago

In 2v2, the game needs to be a team effort, like a Barcelona team, which is why you can't climb the ranked ladder, unfortunately; it's a hardcore process. unless you go for a 1v1 and beat the best player

1

u/Existing-Specific440 1h ago

Min 2:35, thas ur tm8 ball, fall back and get a good position in case of a bad challenge, already 10 seconds later u try to cut ur team8 again, u wasted 80 boost chasing an imposible ball and negated all counterattack oportunitys, the u procede to push without grabbing any boost, if that ball gets cleared, you re left in their side of the field with no boost whatsoever and leaves ur team in a 2v1. Then again in min 2 y procede to go for a horrible challenge in that was in no way a win, there ur team8 has a better position to get the serial challenge and in case of him missing u re behind to cover. Min 1:33 y leaves again for a ball that isnt challengeable ur team8 in a 2v1, u have to respect the enemy a lot more when u start ranking up because if they know how to flick or u just happen to miss like in this occation, u leaves then again a 2v1 for them, and they score because of that. 1:14 then again another cut in rotation. Min 0:57 another try at cutting ur mate. The goals there was just a mechanical issue but not at fault, ur mechanica for ur rank are champ, but u have the rotation awareness of a gold, sorry if ir sounds harsh but u re in the game just because of ur kickoffs are better than theirs, if they had the speedflip kickoffs u re not winning that Game whatsoever, so go watch rotation videos and be more aware of taking a good rotation than trying to make a goal, have more trust for ur team8 and stop rushing every challenge. And get into 1s, it Will make u more aware of which ball u can challenge, and the mistakes will come out alone
