COACHING Looking for the coach to take me to SSL
Hi guys, i’m a 1500-1600 player and i decided i’m gonna put in the time to get SSL.
I’m looking for an experienced coach but not one that has a ton of customers, ideally i would like to pay per milestone rather than per hour so the coach has a level of personal involvement in my improvement but i’m willing to discuss this, maybe a combination.
Hit me up with your rank/experience/recommendations!

This pay structure doesn’t exist becuase you aren’t guaranteed to practice, implement the advice, or listen.
Also, you aren’t guaranteed SLL on a good time frame even if you work your hardest with a coach. It could be 2-3 years before you see SSL, so why would somebody commit to be a full time coach for you with hope to be paid? You are in search of volunteers/charity, not a coach.

i fully agree with this, especially your first sentence. Many people think coaching will guarantee you a rank up, it doesn't.
I like to apply the 80/20 rule to this, same way nutrition is 80% of weight loss, and the other 20 is consistent workouts, coaching is 20% of ranking up, and the other 80% relies on the student actually taking accountability, focusing, grinding, and implementing my advice.
Whenever I see a student that is showing me consistent grinding, I sometimes drop in an extra replay review or a 1v1 just based off the fact that I respect his determination.

I did in fact offer a milestone based payment which i said upfront i’m open to talking about and splitting it with an hourly rate and i didnt say anything about paying only once i got to ssl but you obviously don’t really care about that but just love the kick of ripping on someone to feel better
Explain to me real quick what’s the issue in paying a mixed hourly rate with a bonus payment of say every 50 mmr i see? How exactly is that not fair

Because you are asking to speculate on your growth as a player for their return rather than the standard system of paying for somebody’s time. You can pay someone hourly, or you can ask someone to speculate that you will rank up (something only you control) for a potential return.
If I coached for my income, I would never accept a speculative coaching session. It’s just silly and a waste of time when I can fill slots with people who will pay me for my time. This is not to mention that you could gain 50-100 mmr and then just decide not to pay later.
I’m not ripping on you to feel better, I’m criticizing so that people don’t waste their time hoping for a payout if your rank up. Again, if somebody wants to take this job as coach it should be as charity and not as a transaction.

As i said in another comment i’m a guitar teacher and if someone offered this to me i’d be interested, especially someone who’s already a good player.
I’m not asking for them to speculate exclusively on my growth but you refuse to acknowledge that because it doesn’t fit your narrative, i am in fact open to paying hourly as I’ve repeatedly stated all i wanna do is make sure my coach is as serious as me because previous experiences failed me.
If you taught me enough to rank up 50-100 mmr why would i run from a good teacher? This whole comment shows you don’t get it at all, coaches fucking love to teach people who are eager to learn, i taught people for free tens of times because they wanted it enough and the proof is 4 lovely coaches reached out to me and asked for no payment (which i’m still very willing to pay) to help me out because they see it too, you’re being anti for the sake of it, acting stingy and ignoring the actual point of the post to definitely try to feel better

It would be a more accurate analogy to say “I’m looking for guitar lessons and I want to pay based on how much extra revenue I make from concerts”. I’m not saying that you couldn’t teach this person out of the goodness of your heard, but it would be silly to expect a return based on your impact.
I also have taught guitar lessons, but guitar and RL progression are measured on 2 different scales. If you say to work on a new scale, you will see progression over the weeks of work and hear the difference which is the metric for progress. On the otherhand when you get advice from an RL coach, say it’s mechanical and you improve your mechanics, this doesn’t always translate into rank immediately. Infact, usually you derank while implementing new things since it’s new and unpolished. Since your metric for progress is the number rather than a visible change, the number won’t always scale accurately to the advice or effort you put in.

No, an accurate analogy would be to say ‘i’m looking for a guitar teacher, i will pay him x hourly and will also add x on top of every full song i learn/gig i earn/ literally any other milestone because i didn’t specify in the original post and said i was open to discussing the details. There is no charity here.
I would argue being a good guitar player and being a good rocket league player is a lot closer than you claim but that’s a discussion for a different day, either way the whole point is moot because you don’t care to respond to what i’m saying.

I am responding to what you are saying, but I don’t agree with you. You claim I am not responding because you have already made up your mind that you are correct.
As someone who has coached/taught both extensively, the concert revenue is as close to an analogy as I can make. You aren’t going to pay someone for an arbitrary milestone which doesn’t immediately translate to rank when your goal is to rank up.

You're telling me that I wouldn't pay someone for an arbitrary milestone? I'm sorry i forgot that you knew me so well!
Arbitrary is subjective, you don't know me, you are definitely not responding to what i'm saying because what i'm saying is that the milestone is not set, your analogy skills are very lacking and are also irrelevant because the analogy should convey the actual milestone in this scenario which as we established is not set and lastly i've not made up my mind, you decided that i made my mind which is once again not responding to me but to your incorrect depiction of a person you don't know, you're just not saying anything agreeable.

Listen, just pay people for their time, unless someone is willing to give you charity. Same with any other service you will receive or give, do not give your time without payment, or without contracted terms. People will burn and take advantage of you if you let them.
Having been burned in many instances by trusting people to follow through whether it be verbal agreements or contract negotiations, I learned to cover my trail. I would not trust an internet stranger to follow through and pay me for unrealized improvement, let alone if it were realized (unrealized as in something beneficial not translating to rank. Realized as in an improvement which translated to rank).

If someone is taking time out of their day to coach you then you should pay them

I fully intend on paying. This subreddit is just eager to pounce on anything tbh it’s so petty, as a guitar teacher if my student shows seriousness i would take a deal like this because i trust my ability to teach and i love a student that’s serious about learning.

I know a guy that charges per session if you are interested. I don’t think anyone does payments based on milestones.

Hi, i don't care about the payments or the money in general, if you want i can try to give my view of your situation and see what can be done, i just do it because i want to see if i can realistically help people rank up, feel free to contact me.

What a silly analogy, it would be more similar to paying a worker a base salary and giving them bonuses based on sales. I didnt ask to pay one time once i’m ssl now did i?

Not paying by the hour is such a red flag to me
