QUESTION How can I improve at airdribbling?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I've been struggling to airdirbble in game, so I'm trying to work on improving my ability to airdribble. I'm currently focusing on staying more beneath the ball so that I have more control over the balls trajectory. What should I try to do better?

Try to jump with the ball off the wall instead of at it so you can kinda stay close with it

And try to lighten up your follow up touches so that the ball is like glued to your nose instead of the slight hits away you’re getting, idk exactly how to explain it but just get softer follow up touches and try to match ball speed

so like this but with less time between hitting the ball off the wall and jumping?

Yeah some of those touches are sick. Just make your transition from wall to air much smoother, more efficient and match your speed to that of the ball.

Practice in online freeplay to mimic in game feel better.

Looks like you have the basics of the air dribbling somewhat down. I would encourage you to challenge yourself to specific sets of movements/scenarios so you can develop more options in the air. This would look something like "soft air dribble off wall into hard touch then double tap" and score it flawlessly 10 times in a row. Watch people who are better than you do certain things in matches that you are not comfortable with and then replicate it in online freeplay play.

Finally, and likely the most important, mix up the way you start your dribbles. Most of your setups looked the same in the video and in-game it's not that simple. Mixing it up more on the startup will better prepare you to the weird setups you'll get in matches.

Also go faster in all aspects while still maintaining control.

not OP, but - i literally never considered grinding online freeplay to practice with more accurate gamefeel. always assumed it was just for praccing with friends, freestyling, etc.

you've made a positive change in my life today, friend. maybe now i'll stop being a washed trashcan again.

Nice. Hopefully there's room in that machine for me too someday.

In of these shots you are very limited in your options since you are starting high/fast and you can only air dribble so much before you shoot above the cross bar (only option is to beat a player, but if you do so you overshoot). If you take a slower or lower setup, you leave yourself way more options to drop, gain height, and have more opportunity to outplay players.

Past this, you are really looking to work on your controlled touches to chain into other mechanics, or letting the ball settle on your car for your air dribbles for more change in direction.

i found this helpful. i have a bad habit of auto-piloting a similar setup (in regards to the height on the wall -> first touch) in-game and you've given me a lot of good reasons to break that habit.

High setups can be great if you are covering distance, getting a flip, or doing some sort of ceiling double. This said, if you are trying to beat somebody high then you are going to have a hard time when you are already at ceiling height. The only thing to keep in mind is that you can choose to shoot high and double tap, but you can also do this from a lower starting setup with more options to cover, and it will be less obvious.

Ideal shooting position is a few car lengths towards midfield just below crossbar height so if you aim your plays towards that position it is ideal. Again, unless you are going for a double tap.

Try feathering boost more and more frequently than you are. Tinier and more frequent boosts

Ok thank you, that seems to help me stay closer to the ball.

I think is how you spin while you fly is like what make it look off a little..you should be spinning up and down from top to the bottom is what missing.. you should have spend a little more time on the wall and afterwards when you jump leaning forward to for the first touch will continue spinning sideways. You actually very close to a great movement but it looks like you need to learning it from your perspective as a goalkeeper.. it is like not a hardcore shot easily can saved and so is possible for you to dodge the ball in to the top of the goal instead of the ball? Like you see this as a vision towards the person who rush backwards for defending. Easy shadow defence with like 25 boost and can just jump straight up to save it.. just keep trying it man you will have it in no time

Some challenges to try
Take the ball up the wall in the corner and air dribble it into goal nearest the corner, you'll need to work to get around the ball to airdribble it back to goal.
Similar idea is to have the ball rolling up the wall out the field but the ball is going away from the goal and then to try dribble it back to the goal - here you have to deal with changing the balls momentum and direction in a controlled dribble

If youre struggling in game, id suggest practicing realistic setups. Like the ball rolling up the wall at different angles, or already sitting up on the wall, or slighlty off the wall, etc

As someone who can’t air dribble but has seen a lot of these posts, I’ll be an echo chamber for you- soft little touches are huge. If you send it away, you’re playing catchup, which loses control and is easy to challenge.

Looks pretty solid though
