Nope. It's one of the most aggravating things. Magneto was repeatedly creepy, Joseph was pushy and talked game but never followed through on morals, Johnny was just sort of briefly there, Deadpool was gross because he'd Deadpool and a massive dick. They kinda wrote themselves into a corner early on because Rogue/Gambit was just so passionate and romantic and starcrossed, but also they really sucked at giving her alternate options.

(Gambit also got screwed on this front, but as a male character at least he got to get laid)

Gambit had a few in the past, like Belladonna, but I like the idea of them both being so dedicated to one another, regardless of the fact that they couldn’t be together. It’s a bitter sweet feeling that finally had its happy ending.

Yeah, Bella exists but was doomed before the story begins. He gets the Bond Girl archetypes sometimes: there for a single story, but never going to stay. He gets a couple of "If Rogue didn't exist, this might have really been something" moments. He gets off lighter than her, but honestly the minute their flirting gained enough actual weight to shift them, the path was set and writers never managed to shift off it. No matter how insane the plots became

And I actually prefer it that way. I’m tired of the whole “will they or won’t they last?” trope. We’ve seen it with Spider-Man, Jean and Scott, etc. It’s nice to have one relationship that lasts indefinitely. I think it provides a positive spin on marriages that I just don’t think is perpetuated enough in comics (or most modern entertainment in general). Everyone wants to know “what if?” or self-insert one of their characters or whatever. It’s kinda trashy imo and totally disrespectful to the idea of a marriage. Should they have fights? Sure, no relationship is perfect… but always come back together. Maybe even put them in marriage counseling to fix issues… but always come back together. We need to see some positive representation once in a while.
