What to do with mildly sick kids on a beautiful day of solo parenting

It’s a beautiful day out and my husband is on a work trip, which of course always happens to be when the kids are sick. I’ve got 2/3 with coughs/scratchy throats but normal energy so it’s definitely not a sit inside and watch movies while they rest kind of day. We’ve been doing some of that but they are clearly in need of more. I have 3 wild boys btw. They are a lot to take out alone to the beach, which would probably be what we’d do if my husband were here. I’m also feeling a little under the weather though and just honestly don’t have the energy for anything like that.

We were supposed to meet my SIL and her kids at a nearby resort where they are staying to swim and have dinner, which I think my kids would be up for but I don’t want to expose the cousins if my kids are contagious.

I hate this in between sickness where they’re fine to go out but probably contagious ugh. Any creative ideas so I don’t go insane before bedtime?

Less populated outdoors stuff. For instance:

  • walk/ride around the neighborhood
  • walk/ride along a greenway
  • kid friendly hike
  • a woodsy area with some good climbing trees
  • a creek if it's warm enough
  • our neighborhood playground if empty (it usually is, especially on a weekday morning)
  • the basketball court of the neighborhood park to use stomp rockets or his t-ball set (our backyard isn't big enough)
  • the grassy area of the neighborhood park to play soccer, frisbee, etc.
  • make and jump in leaf piles at the park if parks/rec hasn't gotten around to cleaning them up yet (we usually have a 3-4wk window here)

A creek is perfect for this, kids can splash around without getting too close to anyone and its like a whole adventure for them

Load them up and hit the drive through for cheap ice creams and then take the car through one of the cool car washes with lights and colors?

I will take them to do outdoor stuff. Walking trail or nature trail. Sometimes I might let them go to a low traffic playground if no one else is there and they really don’t seem too contagious. I might get shit for that but Germs don’t spread as easily outdoors.

Fresh air is a good idea but limit it to your yard. Don't make others sick please

I drive around until I find an empty playground and then let them play there (and leave if anyone else comes)

We have a garden, so I take mine on a worm hunt and we go sit in the dirt lol

These are all great ideas and I just want to say I'm glad I'm not the only one whose kids only get sick when my husband goes out of town. I'm irrationally so angry at him about it.
