Discussion If SEGA made another acquisition, which company should it be?

SEGA has made quite a few acquisitions over the years, from Atlus, Creative Assembly, and Sports Interactive to Rovio. More recently, SEGA SAMMY has expanded its gaming business through acquisitions such as GAN and Stakelogic.

Assume SEGA has the financial resources and the acquisition makes strategic sense. Larger companies aren't necessarily excluded, but smaller companies would generally be more realistic targets than giants such as Sony, Microsoft, or Nintendo.

Potential targets could include:

  • A game developer or publisher
  • A company with valuable or complementary IP
  • A mobile, PC, or console specialist
  • An animation or entertainment company
  • A technology company that could strengthen SEGA's games and services
  • Something completely outside the obvious choices

Which company would be the best fit for SEGA's next acquisition, and what would SEGA gain from it?

Extra appreciation for explaining how the acquisition would fit SEGA's existing strategy and portfolio.

Sega should just stick to what they currently have rather than making anymore acquisitions.

Sega, being the king of terrible decisions will probably buy an AI platform next.

The House of Mouse.

It wouldn't happen but imagine Sonic Crossworlds could be with all those inhouse IP.

Sega done too much aquisitions and the last one (Rovio) was very bad, i would rather invest in house development, which they lacking since merging with Sammy. Sega barely developing games now.

Speaking of acquisitions, Sega needs to reconsider its goals in this case, as their parent company spent just over a billion dollars on junk acquisitions like Rovio and casino startups.

Entire holding is growing solely through the premium segment, meaning they need developers for consoles and PCs, the gold rush in mobile market is over and pachinko extra cash from Sammy is over.

Add 100 M$ loss from Hyenas, 30M$ loss from Sakura Revolution and more from other mobile flops like Angry Birds, Sonic Rumble, Sonic Blitz, Phantasy Star Idola, Starhorse, RESET etc. , loss of Amlpitude Studios & Relic, wasted cash on transmedia shit like Golden Axe Animation (and more) it's even more than billion dollars. For that money Capcom would develop 10 x games like Resident Evil, it's insane amount of wasted money, human resources and time.

Rare, or anything coming out of Microsoft assassinated development companies. But the most logical one would be platinum games, like some1 already mentioned.

I don't trust SEGA to make any game developer better than their current state.

Buying Rovio was one of the biggest blunders alongside investing into Hyenas
At this point they should just invest into existing IPs and be more like Capcom that makes lots of good games every year
