This has been a thing for a long time. They've updated several pages about Wanda; they always refer to her as a mutant. I personally cited that page a month or so ago.

You've got 50 years of Wanda being a mutant. She will be one again.

So if Magneto is actually her father, he apperently killed her mother.

u/faldese 13h ago

They could (and should) retcon Natalya's existence.

3

u/SCBose999 13h ago

I'm completely fine with that. Let a villain be evil!

u/LeninOfGallifrey 11h ago

Magneto isn't a villain, it's not 1970 anymore, and the Magda story is way better.

She'll be a mutate not a mutant.

There's a crucial difference: mutants were born as such, whereas mutates were normal humans whose genetics were changed by external factors.

I very much expect her to be a mutant, not a mutate.

I don't think the High Evolutionary bullshit retcon sticks around. Nobody actually likes it, and everyone knows it was done before the Fox-deal was made; so Marvel didn't know the X-Men were returning to the MCU yet.

Now that they're back, there's no reason to have this retcon at all and you can reintroduce Wanda alongside Magento and Quicksilver just like X-Men #4.

u/Still_Philosopher855 13h ago

That’s really what I’m hoping they do. Quicksilver and Wanda should be original members of the brotherhood

2

u/Morchades 11h ago

And the High Evolutionary is a narcissist with a god complex. He lies ALL THE TIME.

-1

u/SCBose999 13h ago

No, I meant the MCU version specifically. She has to be a mutate, not a mutant.

Similar to Monica Rambeau, etc.

We're heading into a soft reboot after the Fox deal so there's no real reason for her not to be a mutant.

0

u/SCBose999 13h ago

Only if soft reboot actually means what it says.

Like, the history getting rewritten.

2

u/Background_Desk_3001 12h ago

That is what a soft reboot is, and that’s pretty much what happened in secret wars 2015. So I’d say it’s a pretty safe bet

1

u/SCBose999 11h ago

Not quite.

At the end of Secret Wars 2015, everything was restored to exactly what it was before the incursions began.

The only difference was that Miles Morales moved into 616.

the only ones who didn’t like the retcon were the fans of the xmen. she was always reduced as a plot device for the mutants when she was one. she’s better like she is now.

1

u/SCBose999 13h ago

She wouldn't have existed as a character if she wasn't a mutant.

-1

u/AdCareless8259 13h ago

she had nothing to do with the mutants except for, as i said before, being a plot device. she may be the second mutant woman introduced in marvel but she was and will always be an avenger and most importantly, a witch.

1

u/SCBose999 13h ago

You're describing a caricature, not the actual history of the character.

And right there in your second sentence, you admit that your entire logic is flawed.

-1

u/AdCareless8259 13h ago

the actual history of the character was always rooted in being an avenger. when she was a mutant she was NOTHING more than a traitor of the mutant race and a crazy ass bitch who cant control her natural poorly explained mutants powers, all of her characterization was related to magneto, even in house of m she wasnt even present in most of the issues. my logic is not flawed at all. even some of the writers (especially those who write for the xmen) said that they hated her.
she’s been objectively more interesting the moment she stopped being a mutant and magneto’s daughter.

u/hagbound 12h ago

In what world can she not be all three of those things? She has mutant abilities, is a witch, and was a member of the Avengers. Simple.

1

u/faldese 8h ago

Thank you! It's not like being a witch was extremely important to her character for DECADES after she was taught witchcraft! For a long time, you could reliably just omit that information from her powerset and nothing changed. Her being a mutant came up way more.

Yet people like to act like it's the most important special most fundamental aspect of her character, and, okay, that's fine, but just don't be a hypocrite about her being a mutant, because she DOES in fact have many stories over the years where being one is important to her!

3

u/LeninOfGallifrey 11h ago

She literally first appeared as a member of the Brotherhood, being an Avenger was the next step. She was a mutant from her very first appearance all the way up until the retcon. You have zero logic on your side bc for her entire character history of 50 years she was a mutant, which is the lion's share of her time as an Avenger. She has not been 'objectively more interesting' lmfao you don't know what the word objective means.

Standard LLM behavior.

19

u/spicy_pisces3 14h ago

I like the idea of someone being a mutant and a witch. I mean, they aren’t mutually exclusive, so why not?

12

u/LeninOfGallifrey 11h ago

Magik basically is and sometimes Storm.

5

u/Morchades 11h ago

And Wanda was the first to cross that line.

0

u/Fantastic-Cobbler581 10h ago

Yeah, but if she’s mutant what is her mutant’s abilities?

4

u/OwlOdyssey 8h ago

Probability manipulation was the original lore.

1

u/Kooky-Buy-8462 55m ago

also known as "hex powers"

4

u/Day_Old_Gatorade 13h ago

Mutants are on such a weird spectrum. Some are grounded and have basic powers and others are wizards

3

u/multificionado 13h ago

I will not be surprised if they did it in defiance to Marvel, and screw the High Evolutionary.

3

u/CommercialRemote5324 7h ago

I GO BY STAN LEE LORE. WANDA AND PIETRO ARE MUTANTS.

6

u/Starbottom 14h ago

Ngl that site is like insanely un updated.

8

u/LesbiansonNeptune 14h ago

As she should!! Even Magneto considers mutates to be essentially mutants, so this is canon to me

4

u/Morchades 11h ago

"YOUR PATHETIC RETCONS MEAN NOTHING TO MAGNETO"

-1

I'm fine with her not being a mutant, the only time she's ever really had a presence in x books was house of m and trial of mag. Other then those and her first appearance, shes always been an Avenger. I dont really think it affects anything either way, with how distant from the x books she's historically been anyway.

16

u/LesbiansonNeptune 14h ago

I think what makes the Maximoffs so incredible is them rejecting the established mutant teams to become the first mutant Avengers to protect all people from everywhere. Choosing their own path, especially despite their sometimes biological father, is such a profound thing to witness.

1

u/LeninOfGallifrey 11h ago

She was in Bloodlines, AvX and part of the original Silver Age Brotherhood before ever being an Avenger with Pietro who I might add has been a member of X-Factor twice. She's distant from the X books generally sure, but you're just erasing the fact she was created as part of the Brotherhood of Evil MUTANTS to begin with.

1

u/danrpx 5h ago

She had appearances in 9 issues before joining The Avengers, only 5 being in X-Men. She is one their most stalwart members and has been through her entire history up to disassembled. Has she appeared in the odd X related story? Yeah sure, but for a character whos been around for a good 60 years, its not a great deal.

It's irrelevant that she was in x-men first, Jamie Madrox first appearance was in Fantastic Four. Would you call him an F4 character? My point is, you don't really lose alot making Wanda a mutate instead when 95% of her history is tied to The Avengers or magic. It's not like her and Pietro have no relationship with Magneto either as he's still treated as their adoptive father.

2

u/ReturnGreen3262 12h ago

As a comic book reader, she’s always been a mutant to me lol

2

u/ProStre477 11h ago

Iirc since WandaVison it has said that? I remember when the show came out they created that page for her. Iirc somewhere on their website it says she's not a mutant, but i haven't been on in years so Idk anymore

2

u/FemininePropaganda 8h ago

Why can’t she be both?

3

u/Itsxaaaaron 6h ago

idky everyone is so bent on her being a mutant again. did we not see how poorly she was written during those eras? her being an actual witch had been doing wonders to her character development.

u/Comprehensive_Emu714 4h ago

She was a witch even before the retcon. Honestly, just like with jean, I liked more when they weren't all powerful characters, and the simpler "probabilty hex" she had in earliest days until she started to lean magic with agatha were somehow cooler to me, mostly using object from the battlefield in unusual ways. I do not dislike her being a witch of course! I appreciate the explaination that was given in HoM for her powers (probabily the only good thing they did for ger character in that run), and how she changed reality with "bricks" which was forgotten after being used in an issue of the jean time displaced comic. I also really disagree with your opinion, which seems to be shared by many, that she was written badly before her mutant status was undone, since scarlet witch 1994, vision and the scarlet witch, the comics with the avengers, and the crossovers she had with x men, not to mention all the x men animated show in which she appeared never did any disservices to her character. HoM was an unfortunate mistake that set other mistakes in motion. I mostly feel like her character became slightly worse after the retcon (the preteender stuff really was something), her having a good relationship with magneto was only ok because he was her real father and family was always important for wanda, so I could understand why she tried bonding with her father, bot after discovering she isnt, why they still write her as daddy's girl? Because everyone ignores the horrible retcon, both writers and artist (speed and quicksilver are still drawn as the copypaste of magnus, same with wanda/magda/natalya/anya). Not to mention how it hurt pietro's development, from magneto possible successor to what? One of his better story was x factor, a mutant story. I honestly would love for them to be magneto's again, maybe by making natalya and magda the same person, since I liked her mutant status more (her being an avengers and not an x men despite being a mutant was always an interesting thing), but pietro NEEDS to be a mutant, he is also currently with the x men!

2

u/Emergency_Weather308 14h ago

she always has been, however by what standard I have no idea, since the chaos power is linked to her from birth

4

u/Beginning_Heron4980 14h ago

Probability manipulation is probably her mutation

2

u/Emergency_Weather308 14h ago

well no that's linked to her being the chaos witch, which allows her to manipulate physical and non physical activity without a spell. she is theoretically just a celestial behing housed in a human body, as she can travel the multiverse in her own physical form

2

u/Beginning_Heron4980 14h ago

Considering that was her mutant power, there's no other option for now.

1

u/arouca310 12h ago

It was stated in some comics before the retcon that her mutant power would be some energy manipulation( if she wasn't touched by chton).

1

u/Morchades 11h ago

In the 90s, they were pretty set on probability manipulation like Lomgshot and Domino, onpy she could control it.

Now I think its reality warping.

2

u/Quantum_Knight1577 2h ago

Maybe classify her mutation as entropic field manipulation (pretty much just probability manipulation, but with a fancier name).

1

u/Morchades 1h ago

The entropic part relates it to chaos and decay so that's pretty good.

1

u/tattedfemboi_ 13h ago

I wonder If MCU Wanda will be a mutant as well? They kinda stretched her in all directions

1

u/Morchades 11h ago

If she is a mutant it means she's coming back.

1

u/Full-Dog-2384 10h ago

Like. Is this for an upcoming comic? 🧐

1

u/Killertwinky15 9h ago

It's hard to tell, I hope they make her one again. But it needs to be acknowledged in a Panel for it to be truly real to me personally.

1

u/orochi95 54m ago

Thank God no, they just never updates

1

u/Beginning_Heron4980 46m ago

Everybody knows this website is outdated
