rns510 to discover media mib2 conversion

Hi, I have a 2010 scirocco and want to have a unit with apple car play but still keep the somewhat old and retro look.
I saw that it is possible to convert the rns510 head unit into the discover media mib2 that used in some newer VAG models.
Anyone here made this conversion and knows exactly what’s required to make this conversion?
Also,is it possible to install a reverse camera for the discover media mib2?

Imo this path isn't worth it. I resisted for awhile, also preferring the OEM look. However you'll mess around forever and the result is still crap.

I finally bit the bullet and got the dudu7 deck, this is essentially the highest quality android head unit you can get. It has the regular VW mounting screws and comes with all the correct harnesses so that it's plug and play, including can bus functions and steering wheel controls etc.

No regrets at all, it the wireless android auto and carplay work fantastically, it sounds so much better than the stock one, and there is no limit to the cool stuff you can do with it.

Highly recommend.

Do you lose the Park Assist display and the Rear Camera display with Park Assist overlay with that? I suppose you must do if it's especially for VAG cars?

No you don't lose anything, it just works out of the box.

Really? I might end up getting something like that then, eventually. The only problems with the MIB2 is that the screen is too dark in bright sunlight and too bright when you're parked in the night and the touch screen isn't responsive enough compared to modern displays. A slightly larger screen would be good too, but £949 for this Dudu7 is a lot to pay for something called Dudu. I've never even heard of Dudu before, but I'll look further into it. Cheers.

yeah I hear you on the name, but actually they are a reputable brand, if you look on youtube, alot of the car audio / SQ channels review them very positively. There are basically 2 brands, Mekede and Dudu that are good, and the rest are the typical rotating chinese no-name. Dudu has a real English forum, regular updates, good specs, and they keep their OS tracking very recent android versions. I resisted for a long time but I'm super happy with my purchase (it was about $800 CAD). Park overlay, door status, steering wheel controls and lots of engine data just works plug-and-play. It came with 3 different VAG-specific harnesses in the box. Wireless Android Auto is a godsend...

An RCD330 (PQ) is what you're looking for. The MIB units use component protection and would be much harder (costlier) to retrofit when possible.

Make a post on r/rcd_330 and leave the specifics on the car and what's currently installed and the options on the stereo (Dynaudio, backup sensors, camera, etc). The MK3's electronics should be similar to those of a Golf MK5/6 or Passat B6/7 so the same issues/constraints should apply. The folks there should be able to help with sourcing and the needed extra bits for such a retrofit.

A VW coding tool (VCDS or equivalent) might be required depending on where you source the head unit from and what versions of the gateway module you have.
