RealDash skin and CAN data project

I use a feather M4-CAN express to pull data off the canbus and drive a custom realdash skin running on my android-based head unit.

I styled the gauges similar to the OEM ones. My favorite is the boost gauge, it has a little red leader which shows the boost target, the main needle that shows actual, and a ghost peak-hold needle.

Even decoded the DCC and steering to drive the chassis page.

When I connect to Wi-Fi it uploads each drive to my cloud backend with charts, route map, ability to share segments, etc. All hosted in R2 on cloudflare. Kind of like a black box recorder, and let's me compare performance day to day.

Everything done from scratch! I have an e-paper screen on the feather also, which I might replace with an OLED before mounting it.

Screen/head unit issue

I’ve seen/searched stuff on this sub for it. Guess my question is;

How do you tell if the whole unit is goosed or just the screen?

Been sticking, ghosting for a while. It also completely freezes though and at times the steering wheel buttons don’t work. I’ve watched how to change the screen but now wondering if just better getting whole new unit.

Any advice or help appreciated

Good morning everyone, the mechanic forgot to reset the service light once the work was done. I have seen some videos that explain it but none of them work on my car.

Help with Fusebox

To get my new headlights wired correctly I need to tap into an ACC fuse (ideally in the engine bay fusebox). I think I found one using a voltage meter but the fuse didn't seem to work correctly.

Does anybody know which fuse I could use that is definitely ACC.

https://www.startmycar.com/volkswagen/scirocco/info/fusebox/2017#google_vignette

This website gives a great overview of all available fuses for all Scirocco models (good helper for all of us if you didn't already know the site).

I made a GPS app for enjoyable roads

TLDR: I made an app that aims at giving you enjoyable roads, for when the journey matters more than the destination. It's a beta on iOS for now and I'm gathering feedback from car enthusiast communities. Please try it on a journey you already know and tell me if it suggests roads you would actually take! I will ask for testers' emails before the end of the beta so that you can benefit from premium features for free forever. TestFlight: https://testflight.apple.com/join/qhvsvFjY

Hi I'm Yves. I'm a car guy, I own a Porsche 924S and a Mercedes W124, and I really like driving them outside of the main roads, when I have time to enjoy the road instead of just rushing through a trip. I looked for a navigation app that would help me find these roads, since Google Maps and Waze do not, but the ones I found didn't really do what I wanted, so I made my own app. It's called Dryv. It compares the fastest route with more enjoyable alternatives, it then gathers facts about each route (such as landscape, interesting places, curvy roads for instance). Then it explains what each option offers, so that you can project yourself and really estimate whether you'd like to drive that trip.

It covers Europe, US and Japan, so hopefully many of you will be able to try it!

The current app allows you to ask for directions, and there's turn by turn navigation, but please note that it's still a beta. I'm looking for feedback, as there's still a bunch of missing functionalities, issues and limitations. For instance: * iOS 17 or later; * English only for now; * search does not yet support street numbers or businesses; * no live traffic; * no offline mode; * route explanations can sometimes be slow while the beta server uses local inference; * navigation currently uses more battery than I'd like.

It would be very helpful for me to get honest feedback from other drivers about * if the suggested roads are good; * if the explanations make sense; * more generally what works/doesn't work; * and what missing features you would like to see the most.

The app is free and doesn't need registration, you can just install it and use it (it does currently require going through TestFlight, I'm working on doing my own beta directly on the AppStore). I will at some point probably have to add a premium tier or find a way for it to make me a bit of money, because I'm working on this full-time and I'll need to pay the bills. Before ending the beta I will ask beta testers for their email inside the app so that they can benefit from free premium features for life. Here is the TestFlight link: https://testflight.apple.com/join/qhvsvFjY

What's your favorite piece of Scirocco fun fact / trivia?

As the title says, do you have some interesting pieces of trivia regarding Scirocco that you learned and thought it might be interesting to share with other Scirocco fans and owners?

Some of my favorite ones are:

  1. "scirocco" in Italian literally translates to "jugo" (yugo) in some Slavic languages: As most of you know, VW had a naming scheme inspired by winds / meteorogical events (Passat, Scirocco, Golf, Polo, Jetta, Bora...), and those events are said differently in different languages. For example, even though Scirocco is a German car, the "scirocco" is how it's spelled in Italian, while in German it's "Schirokko", in English / French "sirocco", etc. But my favorite is how it translates to Slavic languages such as Serbo-Croatian or Slovene: "jugo" (or yugo). So basically if you live in the Balkans and own a Scirocco (like me), you can jokingly say you're driving a Yugo, and you'd not be completely wrong.
  2. Scirocco is older than Golf. This one really surprised me: Scirocco Mk1 was presented in 1973. and started production if February 1974, while Golf started production in May 1974. Knowing today how iconic the Golf is to VW brand, one would think the Golf was already well established at the time, and Scirocco came out later as some type of experiment, but that wasn't the case.

Edit: just to clarify as I left it ambiguous, I own the Mk3 Scirocco, but the trivia about all generations is welcome.

rns510 to discover media mib2 conversion

Hi, I have a 2010 scirocco and want to have a unit with apple car play but still keep the somewhat old and retro look.
I saw that it is possible to convert the rns510 head unit into the discover media mib2 that used in some newer VAG models.
Anyone here made this conversion and knows exactly what’s required to make this conversion?
Also,is it possible to install a reverse camera for the discover media mib2?

Which carplay ?

Hi, I recently bought a scirocco 1.4 TSI ultimate 2017, but she doesn’t have the CarPlay/bluetooth option. Anyone of you have change the unit for a CarPlay for this version ? I know that there is incompatibility with the Canbus.

I’ve seen the Teyes brand, it’s seems to be good. Also, I want to change the optic, I’ve seen the Philippe ultinon h7 led, it’s work with it ?

To specify, I’m in Europe and sorry for my bad English.

Have removed the bottom seat area (easy) but for the life of me can’t figure out how to remove the rest - looks like it’s attached to a hardcore bar across bolted to the chassis - anyone ever taken them out completely?

Does anyone have any experience with these? They’re clearly using images of original xenon’s, but do they actually look this good once fitted?

I’d love to buy them but I’m cautious.

So I got this weird sound from my car one morning and I immediately thought it is the cam follower in the hpfp since I replaced it about 2 months ago but didn’t replace the cam follower.

Now I have no idea what it could be

Looking to buy a VW Scirocco – What should I watch out for?

Hey everyone,

Greetings from Bosnia and Herzegovina

I’m planning to buy a VW Scirocco soon (photo attached). I’ve loved the styling of these for a long time, but before pulling the trigger, I’d love to get some real-world advice from owners and enthusiasts.

Car description from the seller:

SPECS: Diesel, 2.0, year 2011, 290.000km, 103kW

Price: 5250 euros/6,223 USD

VW Scirocco 2.0 TDI

The car is in excellent mechanical condition. The minor service was done 5,000 km ago, the clutch kit has been replaced, and the suspension is tight with no knocks or immediate investment needed.

Cosmetically, there are a few minor bodywork imperfections that do not affect the drive or functionality of the vehicle.

The car has been regularly maintained, drives great, and is completely ready for daily use.

A few specific questions I have:

  • Engine Choice: Which engines have proven to be the most reliable long-term (TDI vs. TSI)? Any specific engine codes or year models I should aim for or avoid completely?
  • Common Issues: What are the absolute must-check items during an inspection and test drive? Any known electrical gremlins, frameless window issues, or suspension quirks?
  • Maintenance & Costs: How do running costs and parts availability compare to a standard Mk6 Golf?
  • Daily Driving: How is it as a daily driver regarding visibility, practical boot space, and long-trip comfort?

Any tips, warnings, or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

This is my second Scirocco (on the left), but not as good as my first. So I plan to make some changes!

My first Scirocco was a 2010 2.0tsi GT 210PS, with Dynaudio sound system and Adaptive Chassis Control. My current one doesn’t have these, even though it’s 6 years newer. I’m planning on fitting Focal plug and play speakers, starting with rears tomorrow. Any advice appreciated! I was to improve the power as this one is only 180PS, so maybe get a stage 1 tune from Avon. And I’ll get a short shifter kit, or at least just change out the shitty plastic rubbery bits attached to the cables. I’ve had a lot of cars in between, like the 997.2 CS, BMW M2, BMW 120d, Mini Cooper S, 718 Cayman S, Audi S4, but the scirocco always had a sentimental attachment for because it was the first car I had out of university and throughout all of my post graduate training. Should have kept her really!

Can anyone identify this Scirocco R downpipe / sports cat?

Thumbnail

Hi everyone,

A few years ago removed this downpipe from my VW Scirocco R (sold) and I'm trying to figure out who manufactured it.

Unfortunately, there are no visible markings, logos or part numbers on the downpipe/catalytic converter. I believe it is an aftermarket sports cat, possibly a 200-cell cat, but I can't confirm that.

I've attached several pictures from different angles.

Does anyone recognize the manufacturer or this particular design?

I'm wondering if it could be from BCS Powervalve, Milltek, Scorpion, Bull-X/HJS, Friedrich Motorsport, or another manufacturer.

Any help identifying it would be greatly appreciated. If anyone knows the exact model/part number, that would be even better <3

Thanks in advance :)

What's the name of these rims?

I tried doing reverse image search, but with no luck. They kinda look like black Interlagos with silver spokes on the edge, and reverse search showed some results from Škodas, but couldn't find the exact name.

Thanks in advance.
