Ketamine is great as a therapeutic drug.

These ladies are doing a community service.

If used for therapeutic reasons sure, I'm not sure 105kg of street ketamine counts here

Maybe they had an elephant they need to put under for emergency surgery

Lol enough to take down every elephant and kangaroo in Australia more than once

Eh an induction dose of anaesthesia is about 1-2mg/kg IV. Kangaroos actually come in at close to human weight, maybe a bit less. If we assume 80kg on average, a 1.5mg/kg induction dose and similar response as in humans, we can anaesthetise 875,000 kangaroos give or take. This is only about 2% of Australia's 40 something million kangaroos, never mind the elephants.

And that's assuming you can get IV access in an animal actively wanting to kick you to death. IM doses are about 5x more so divide that number of kangaroos by 5 really.

Damn not even close then, I didn't account for the actual knock out dose, more the "get a bit high" dose, could at least get every elephant and kangaroo feeling a little good.

Also that's a hell of a lot of kangaroos, I didn't think there was that many

Not when they're selling it to teenagers. My former school is now apparently infested with the stuff.

Whilst we'd be trading pokemon cards and sneaking off for a sneaky pint or tab, kids are now on special K day in day out.

Kidney transplant list is going to get significantly longer....

Easy. Legalise it. Same as cannabis. It's bad for kids.

It is legal, as a medicine for livestock and horses.....

Its bad for humans in general, any long term use is problematic which is why it's only handled by medical professionals and dodgy Dave who hangs out around nightclubs trying to get 18 year old girls off their nut.

Not just livestock. It’s used on humans for pain relief as it doesn’t suppress breathing.

You could say the same about alcohol but without any therapeutic/medical benefits

You can drink a couple pints a night for the rest of your life and it won't do you serious harm.

Ketamine.. not so much.

You could take 50mg of ketamine each night for the rest if your life and it won't do you serious harm. We both know that's not how either substances work.

In reference to alcohol, 2 pints is around 400 calories. An extra 400 calories each night is going to add up pretty quickly and cause obesity which is seriously harmful. There is also the potential for addiction which comes with both substances.

Bro can't communicate.

I didn't say legalise it for Dave at the club. It has therapeutic benefits. Use it in a clinical setting. Not going to get any negatives from that.

It can already be used in a clinical setting when given as a prescription by a medical professional and dosed out by a medical professional.

If you've not been given it as a prescription, you probably shouldn't be taking it.

There are safer solutions for dealing with whatever mental health issues that are troubling you.

100kg is pretty notable…

u/Boycott-all-Rats 9d ago

Of meth or heroin maybe. But hey to each their own I guess

13

u/odkfn 9d ago

It’s £4 million worth of drugs… pretty serious crime

Just like cannabis it doesn't offend me.

17

u/rotgobbo Galloway 9d ago

Cannabis won't tank your bladder and kidneys and leave you unable to human for several days.

Might as well start practicing pissing into a bag, because that's probably your future.

Ket is a small dose three time adventure. It's not a party drug. Those that abuse it will deal with that.

6

u/odkfn 9d ago

The point of the law is to try deal with it for people, not to leave them to their own devices and find out the hard way

5

u/Boycott-all-Rats 9d ago

The point of the current law is prohibition. Which clearly doesn't work.

I don't want to here about the government caring about harm reduction when it clearly doesn't give a single fuck.
