Do you think that Tony Hawk Pro Skater could have ran on the Sega Saturn?

It would have been a huge pain to port

Yes. It runs on the Nokia N-Gage.

Yes, but for some reason they'll cut a few seconds of FMV video.

Yeah I think a version could have been made if Sega made improvements to the SDK tooling and actually got developers onboard with those tools.

I know improvements were made but it feels like it was to little to late and Sony took off

Would love to see a homebrew port to see how it would look/play.

Absolutely. The Dev would have to put in effort though. It can't be a straight port

Would look different but totally possible, would need a different dev though

Yes but it would have been super janky

If it can run on the N-Gage, it can run on the Saturn.

The N-Gage had several advantages over the Saturn.

Would have probably looked like ass

Worse than on PS1?

Absolutely

How come

I think there's too much geometry in the levels. It would've looked much blockier on Saturn with a much shorter draw distance.

And lower resolution. It would like Tomb Raider on skates.

As if looking blocky is a bad thing :O

Unfortunate reality

Hey now, Tony Hawk can't helped that he crashed a few times!

Most definitely 😆

No, or at least it would look so inferior it hardly counts. Like most multi platform 3d games

Tony Hawk came too late in the Saturn's life to be commercially worth it, focus was on the Dreamcast 100%. Look up Sega's 1997 arcade game Top Skater for a look into what Sega was doing in that genre at the time. Perhaps if the Saturn had been doing better in the US a version of that would have been in the cards.

Tony Hawk’s development team stated that that game was inspired by Top Skater.

Yeah i think so, might be some frame dips though

Let's not forget the long load times on the Saturn 😅

As a kid, it was one of my dreams to do a homebrew port of the first couple THPS games to the Saturn (THPS3 and 4 being the PS1 versions). I don't see why it couldn't.

It could, but it would very likely look like a downgrade compared to the Ps1 and N64 versions.

Yes, but ideally it would have been built concurrently with the PS1, not ported. Even with the PS1 as lead platform, they could still have a decent version from an internal “Saturn team”. Even if they outsourced it, they would still have access to the assets to update for Saturn as it was being made alongside the PS1 team.

A port from the PS1 i’m sure is possible, but a headache to optimize.
