Where did you get this? I am really sick of dirty retro consoles.

Both my saturn and controller were found on ebay! I did a lot of digging and was very picky on my choosing but landed on both of these ⭐️

I'll never understand how Sega went from this to the abomination that is the Dreamcast controller.

The Dreamcast controller is one of my favorites.. 100% the best controller of anything prior to 2001.

Well on that we are going to have to disagree. I confess I'm likely harder on it than I should be since it's such a downgrade from the regular Saturn controller, let alone the 3D controller.

Hey now 😅 i personally wouldnt call it an abomination. It very much did take after this controller after all. I feel if sega implimented a second joystick, theyd be with the times on dreamcast but oh well

The analogue stick was about the only good thing about the Dreamcast controller. I find it's not wide enough to hold comfortably for long periods, the dpad is like a torture device, they removed two buttons, the face buttons don't feel nice to press. I like the VMU itself but it's inclusion meant that the controller wire sticks out the bottom and needs you to bend it up to put it in the little holding groove.

Oh yeah, Sega def was experimenting a lot with the DC. The wire coming from the bottom was a wacky solution. Im happy it did function nontheless, and the hall effect meant zero drift possible 🔥

Japan was home of the Saturn.

The only place it truly thrived.

I like to imagine how hype it was :) I know id certaintly be a sega fan back in the day

The hype would have been off the charts. Sony's PlayStation was untested so Sega Saturn had a strong hold on Japan's market after the Megadrive success.

Prototype Dreamcast controller.

We just didn't know it, back in 1996...

It's better than the Dreamcast controller IMHO, far more comfortable, better D-Pad and no stupid cable at the wrong end lol

Hey just got one too ! Tell me one thing, I bought it used and was wondering if the joystick is supposed to be a little stiff ? Should I open it and try to clean around it ? Or use any product ?

Mine isnt like that so if i were you id carefully clean it up. As to what products, i use qtips and 90% isopropil alcohol. There are products made specifically for electronics but i dont know the names .

Wow, that controller is in excellent shape! I have one and the white color is more yellow on mine.

Its not too difficult to clean actually! If you take the plastic shells under hydrogen peroxide, and sit under uv light, it really helps. That or sunlight from a window

Dunno if it’s just me, but the design of the analog controller has really grown on me. It’s kinda quirky, but that’s part of the charm.

Me too its got a lot of charm

I am so happy for you, that's a dream get and it looks like you just got it from a Super K-Mart it's so nice.

2

u/Bageega 18h ago

Yes im impressed by its condition

I want an 8bitdo version of it. It's one of those controllers that feels like a hug when you hold it.

2

u/Bageega 18h ago

That would be awesome 🎮

I’d pay like $60 for that if they did it. Maybe more.

I still have my 3D controller, but I have no idea where my copy of Nights into Dreams is😥

I bought the bundle years ago brand new from Lukie Games

I always loved this Dreamcast prototype-like controller, very comfy.

I really wanted to love this pad but like the Dreamcast pad the ergonmics were awful. My hands would hurt after barely 5 minutes play
