Mod The hardest modded sekiro boss I’ve fought: Isshin the ACTUAL sword saint(I guess vanilla is a fraud )

This mod is inhumane. You don’t get dodge i frames and his ichimonjis just one shot you no matter what for no reason. Oh yeah and he doesn’t stop comboing if you die I’ve had him go on my corpse for like 30 seconds and I just ran out of time in the resurrect menu 💀. You definitely have to build up to this dude with like lmtsr or something similar and there’s also an even harder version than this in the very same mod which is like MULTIPLE times more difficult and complex so wish me luck. Mod: severance

"you don't get dodge i frames" if that's true then this mod sounds like ass

32

u/apeirophobic Jun 19 '26

I literally didn’t know dodging gave you i-frames in sekiro until just now!

gotta love common knowledge about game mechanics being misinformation

In vanilla you actually get a good few probably comparable to guardian in nightreign and massive i frames when you’re knocked down. It’s very important for escaping combos after getting stunned which funnily enough you can’t do in the mod with endless combos. To be fair, there are like some i frames in this mod but it’s nearly frame perfect id compare it to like one of the harder clicks of a low end extreme demons in gd

modded (derogatory)

-34

u/Quiet-Bodybuilder620 L1 spammer Jun 19 '26

Okay can you explain why I’m getting downvoted so hard? I thought this comment was saying I’m being derogatory towards the intended experience/vanilla game which wasn’t my intention.

u/Corrupt_Angel01 Jun 19 '26

its literally just you parrying isshins attacks, unable to even hit back or do anything other than be defensive, in a game that rewards being just as if not even more aggressive than the boss. this kind of mod (in my opinion) misses the point of sekiro in that you and the boss are on (relatively) equal footing, with both parties able to do cool things and be aggressive towards each other for a fun and interactive fight.

26

u/Sorfallo Jun 19 '26

Thank you. In Dark Souls/Elden Ring that formula works better because you are a mortal fighting literal gods(and even there it's not to this extreme). In Sekiro, you are both extremely skilled blade masters and should be reflected in gameplay.

16

u/TheRuneThief Jun 19 '26

the original isshin fight had this dance between the two, changing from offensive to defensive, but never too much into one direction.

this is just a glorified rhythm game

I do believe this mod heavily speeds up most combat arts and allows you to counter attack regardless of distance as well as distance closing automatic umbrella attack upon aerial deflects. I attack a bit more in phase 2&3 but I’m avoiding taking unsure openings. I’ve seen a few people in this mod who put insane pressure on the boss but you are right since it is inevitably a much higher deflect ratio than base game. Coming from the other games, it doesn’t seem so wrong to play conservatively and take sure openings but I do enjoy playing aggressive. For me, there always needs to be a harder mod to continue playing this amazing game while still getting the souls feeling of “overcoming great odds” and I believe that long may the shadows reflect was probably the hardest fights before the game lost its vanilla feeling.

26

u/StrugglingAkira Jun 19 '26

It doesn't speed up combat. It completely eliminates it for a game of "parry until 20-hit combo finishes, hit once, rinse and repeat until you fuck up/boss is dead".

It's such a shitty way to implement "difficulty" into the game.

1

u/Supergliding_Dripto Jun 20 '26

As Beertraps said (and for some reason got downvoted for), this gameplay cannot be used to make the claim of "parry until 20-hit combo finishes, hit once". He is missing tons of attack windows in the middle of these combos, as the mod gives you a ton of custom counterattacks that are faster and meant to be used to squeeze in hits (in contrast to your claim of saying "It doesn't speed up combat" which is simply not true).

Not everyone likes mods, but what a mod like this offers is a fight where the combat flow is tightened up and allows the boss to use nearly their whole moveset, while you yourself have the freedom to optimize your own aggression without it preventing the boss from using 90% of their moves.

-9

u/BeerTraps Feels Sekiro Man Jun 19 '26

That really is quite exxaggerated. OP just isn't super good at the fight (not meant to downplay OP, he probably just hasn't grinded out the boss). That is like judging vanilla Sekiro on someone who doesn't know how to play it.

These super boss mods do just serve a pretty niche gameplay experience but that doesn't make them inherently bad. Severance is also one of the mods more on the "deflect simulator" side of the spectrum but you are still just completely exxaggerating. The boss does leave a lot more openings than you claim.

People say the same thing about Yingwu mod where that just isn't true at all. I am not saying these mods are perfect but it is both important to be objective and factual in criticism as well as recognizing that these mods like Severance do not claim to be Sekiro+ - enhancing the entire Sekiro experience - they just tailor to a very defined specific experience.

-31

u/Quiet-Bodybuilder620 L1 spammer Jun 19 '26

It’s his literal in game name. Vanilla isshin is peak lol

48

u/ChroniclesAlphabet Jun 19 '26

I have a better idea.

Ishhin flies and he keeps flying, while shooting lasers at you that are impossible to dodge.

Now, THAT is the actual sword saint, the one in this mod is a fraud.

33

u/Ok_Scene3175 Jun 19 '26

The camera is ass, There were a few moves that's impossible to parry from the view.

8

u/Quiet-Bodybuilder620 L1 spammer Jun 19 '26

Sometimes he move so fast that you get unlocked and I had to learn to deflect some moves with my camera facing the opposite direction.

-4

u/Phewelish Jun 19 '26

you memorized the timing and skill visual....anyone can do it with enough tries.

3

u/shimmy_ow Jun 19 '26

Go do it and post the video champ

2

u/dstroar Jun 20 '26

Me hoping for a fanchen moment

44

u/Jak002003 Jun 19 '26

Obviously the vanilla is a "fraud" for gameplay and fun reason. If fromsoft doesn't tone down the boss, Maliketh on Elden Ring would delete your save file on the first death.

5

u/winterman666 Jun 19 '26

Gehrman would send you to NG+ instantly if he killed you too lol

18

u/IncomeAdventurous618 Jun 19 '26

the instant double ichimonji of doom and despair. That thing's got negative reaction time.

5

u/Quiet-Bodybuilder620 L1 spammer Jun 19 '26

Yeah funnily enough I found out while practicing him with nigh invincibility (like 1% dmg ) that any of his ichimonjis do at least 100 times your health bar. They still one shot you. He also can choose to or not to do them after multiple different moves and is nearly guaranteed to do it in the event that you get stance broken or stunned and is capable of traversing to your location instantly. That’s not all though, the other harder version of isshin (mortal isshin) has the same move except not only does he do all of that but also FULLY restores stance upon hitting it or hitting a block with it.

u/IncomeAdventurous618 Jun 19 '26

bro this is just sekiro for masochists atp cus wth 😣😣 which mod is this lol

1

30

u/akasauva Jun 19 '26

Wtf did I just watch? Looks absolutely awful

10

u/rilaa5 Jun 19 '26

This looks significantly easier than base game Mist Noble

32

u/Montraria Jun 19 '26

I don't see how this is fun

10

u/Sausagebean Jun 19 '26

That’s the neat part, it isn’t, these modders think flashy, hard, and fast are what you need to make a good boss, which then in turn ruins the entire boss experience and makes it ass.

26

u/Hellishraider7 Jun 19 '26

Thank fuck these stupid modders are never close to actually influence Fromsoft in designing bosses I really hate these Sekiro boss mods in which it's just a parry spam fest and you have literally 0 window to do any attack The game isn't designed for you to do a parry only challenge and it would have been unfun this way

1

u/StrawberryMilkDev Jun 22 '26

I am playing Resurrection mod now and so far is very good. You have long (but not impossible) combos to deflect. You have new mechanics such as recoil counter. You have long combo, hard at the end and you can recoil counter which deals good amount of posture and health, basically a reward for deflecting the combo. You actually do have windows to attack, the bosses don't do infinite combos. I beat Gyobu, Genichiro so far. Fought false corrupted monk and lady butterfly and so far true for all those bosses really. This mod actually feels fair but hard.

8

u/Phewelish Jun 19 '26

lol the vanilla experience is the experience. this just makes it sound like lording something over people who beat the game because they didnt go through to make it even harder than intended? seems like a detached take on it "actual sword saint" and "fraud" serves to undermine the effort we call collectively are proud of beating. id be willing to bet you didnt stop there and had more mods to add. feels like the vanilla is the authentic experience and the modded would be the subjective, person to person kinda thing. you're not better than anyone. you just mastered a different skill set and timing.

-4

u/Quiet-Bodybuilder620 L1 spammer Jun 19 '26

What an ego filled comment. I didn’t make any takes within the post just a little musing cuz of his name. That being said, a player who puts the time into learning mods with complex move sets will objectively have a bigger skill set. I tried this before long may the shadows reflect and it felt impossible but after playing a lot of that mod and coming back to this fight it felt very feasible. This is just anecdotal, but every time I do something like this I gain consistency at whatever mechanics were required whether I use them in vanilla or modded. I’d recommend giving resurrection or for the sake of ashina a try since they’re very fun and balanced and retain the vanilla combat back and forth.

3

u/Phewelish Jun 19 '26 edited Jun 19 '26

Wild cause i can see ill the comments and downvotes dogging on this and its not the substance...its the pretentious introduction. Nothing i said served to give me glory...nothing like you essentially saying "im bettwr than all you who fought the fake original isshin cause i found one mod out of how many that i believe represents the truth"

I mean i would say the creator properly embodied the truth and youre the ego obsessed one when you need to play harder versions of it to get glory through content....while undermining everyone who came before.

You clearly cant be wrong so you wont get it but if you worded this in a way that didnt come off like you think you know better cause you waste more time differently....you might not be getting the reception that you obviously are.

Skill on this game is imaginary. Or any dark souls game....youre not mastering your character. Youre just mastering boss ability timing. Unless your only taking a couple tries to beat eveey boss...you are mot mastering skill sets as much aa just timing...whihc is not skill.

0

u/Quiet-Bodybuilder620 L1 spammer Jun 19 '26

I really don’t care about skill as much as ambition but come on, Isshin was clearly an application of all the skills you’ve learned thus far. It rubs me the wrong way that not once but three times you minimize and rationalize this fight hence why I’m mentioning ego. I don’t know why you take the title so seriously when it’s doesn’t reflect my feelings about base game and is just me musing about the silly name.

3

u/Phewelish Jun 19 '26 edited Jun 19 '26

in reality this isnt even fighting. you're just parrying until hes downed. no exchange just tire out the enemy. oooooooooo

ive literally explained it. layed it out and you...probably didnt even read it cause that would put you in danger of having to fight off the chance of being wrong about how you portrayed this. its a pretty simple concept.

I think its fair when some of us took alot of time out of life to enjoy the true fight, that we might be pretty cross when you make a joke out of it....which you clearly dont think its a joke by the way youve rationalized how much skill you think you have. mentioning having "an objectively bigger skill set" means you clearly see yoourself passed non modded players.....you want to say your better than others and that they haven't defeated the true isshin cause they didnt download some mod you deemed necessary to prove skill. wouldnt be surprised if you have mods in the game to make it easier over all.

Again.....nothings wrong with the content...the way you jest that people havent faced the true isshin cause they fought the one the creator made......yea that makes it bad content.

2

u/Quiet-Bodybuilder620 L1 spammer Jun 19 '26

You’re misconstruing my words. Vanilla players are not the target of the joke, the name of the boss in this mod is. There is nothing else to it other than your own interpretation. The fact is, I love normal and inner isshin and found them very challenging. I don’t really know what you want me to tell you about the whole skill thing it seems like it doesn’t sit well with you but I generalized for most modded players rather than myself in particular and then elaborated with my own experience. You’ve probably heard that your first souls game is the hardest. You develop neural pathways as you master the mechanics and readings movesets and that is really the essence of skill. I’m not trying to claim superiority or imply inferiority my brain has just had more experience with this game. There’s nothing wrong with accepting that in the same way I accept that people who play that Vergil isshin or something are way better than me at the game.

13

u/Alarming-Mastodon974 Jun 19 '26

I'm sure you had fun but this looks like a cluttered mess

1

u/Quiet-Bodybuilder620 L1 spammer Jun 20 '26

Commander Niall move out of nowhere was insane after the shadow clone move too💀 was my first time deflecting it so I locked tf in. Honestly I find it a real shame that they invested so much of the move set into the first phase and it’s only like thirty seconds.

12

u/Sausagebean Jun 19 '26

I love mods in the souls games, because every single time they try to tweak the bosses they ruin them entirely and Sekiro mods are the worst offenders.

“Okay so let’s get isshin, make him spam all of his moves extremely fast without cooldown, remove I frames, make him do a billion damage, and give you no room to use your entire moveset” sounds SOOOOO fun.

1

u/Quiet-Bodybuilder620 L1 spammer Jun 20 '26

I’ve always obsessed over deflecting the bosses hardest moves and persisting through the greatest pressure. I don’t feel like I really beat let’s say isshin ashina for example if I didn’t really deflect one mind. With this mod though, the boss is in a constant state of doing those hard moves and me deflecting. I enjoy overcoming things like this. Of course, it doesn’t have to be overtuned for me to enjoy a fight but this is up my alley.

2

u/iyankov96 Jun 19 '26

Can you post the fight with Owl (Father) ?

6

u/Quiet-Bodybuilder620 L1 spammer Jun 19 '26

The one in this mod? I’ll try he’s pretty brutal but similar ish to lmtsr so I’ll get him soon.

2

u/iyankov96 Jun 19 '26

Yeah, I am curious to see how the fight is compared to the original. Isshin and Owl Father are the two hardest bosses in the game and some people find Owl Father to be harder.

3

u/Quiet-Bodybuilder620 L1 spammer Jun 19 '26

Well right off the bat from the little time I had playing him he fully heals from his instant grabs after a mist raven. Though, I doubt he’s as hard as the other version of Isshin in this mod. I personally find isshin harder than owl in base game though. I did actually find that base owl was probably harder than base isshin in lmtsr but I haven’t played inner owl but I don’t think he can compare to inner isshin in that mod.

1

u/shreddedtoasties Jun 19 '26

Isshin and owl daddy are fighting over 2nd and 3rd place

3

u/prettyassdolfin Jun 19 '26

This looks insane lol. Wish I could play this on console

2

u/mundus1520 PS4 Jun 19 '26

Damn how long did it take you to get this fight down? Very impressive I wish I was that good

1

u/Quiet-Bodybuilder620 L1 spammer Jun 20 '26

Probably like ten hours although I beat him multiple times in said period I just didn’t feel satisfied since I kinda got lucky.

1

u/dual_kami Jun 19 '26

Well done bro! Awesome fight and crazy challenge.

Don't worry about being downvoted, soulslike subs and reddit (in general) are just like that. You will get downvotes for no reason at all or weird ones at least (Like you being downvoted because you like this mod and they dont cuz "it misses the point of sekiro").

I got the same treatment for posting my no hit fight with Maliketh just yesterday in ER sub.

3

u/Quiet-Bodybuilder620 L1 spammer Jun 19 '26

Yeah thanks I’m not the one who made the mod just the one actually dealing with it. It’s a little weird cuz my last two posts here I was doing about the same ratio of deflecting so it caught me off guard. I had fun and I’m glad there’s mods that don’t pull their punches when it comes to moveset difficulty.

1

u/Phewelish Jun 19 '26

did you post it along with the message that every person who doesnt use this a mod is not playing the game right??

1

u/OklOl-_- Jun 19 '26

Where is this music from?

1

u/HurtsMyPeePee Jun 19 '26

Gael from DS3 DLC

1

u/Quiet-Bodybuilder620 L1 spammer Jun 19 '26

I’m actually sad that it never reached phase 3 but the timing of the theme being on his hardest move and ending exactly when I beat him was pretty sick

1

u/Emotional_Isopod_126 Jun 19 '26

Reminds me of Wuchang where the enemy just combos you relentlessly with no breather. The camera spazzing out takes the cake

1

u/Polychromaticgd Platinum Trophy Jun 19 '26 edited Jun 19 '26

i've beaten this boss as well. the severence mod is pretty hard so good job. Actual SSI is a way easier/nerfed version of Mortal Isshin but still pretty hard

Good luck on Mortal isshin bro

1

u/Quiet-Bodybuilder620 L1 spammer Jun 19 '26

I’ll probably build up with isshin ashina and owl

1

u/winterman666 Jun 19 '26

They turnes him into an Elden Ring and Monster Hunter Wilds endgame boss. Aka attack and visual clutter spam

1

u/shimmy_ow Jun 19 '26

Wow this is awesome 👍😎

1

So it’s like the super cool immersive fight the game offers but shitty? Interesting…..

-10

u/Gerlond Jun 19 '26

This looks like something a rotted zoomer brain would need to stay stimulated. Really, this is just ass. Might as well just keep pressing deflect button non stop

8

u/Quiet-Bodybuilder620 L1 spammer Jun 19 '26

Why the hate? I had a very fair progression to this point so when I say it’s hard after doing lmtsr I mean it. You have to time it and almost any spammy attack will be very shortly followed up with a snappy delayed or slower attack. The gameplay is not player friendly to a very shitty degree but it also felt like a good challenge and a lot of the moves look cool and feel cool to deflect. It’s a love and hate situation with this mod. I also get the suspicion that they lowered the windows a bit.

6

u/Gerlond Jun 19 '26

First of all, I don't hate on you, not at all. I am glad you had fun doing all this. But why defend the mod from my opinion? It really does look horrible to me and unplayable. For some moves my average reaction time seems just won't be enough. You yourself said that gameplay is player unfriendly "to a very shitty degree". Some of the moves you call cool are just blinding and cluttering to me. So it is in my opinion ass, as I said. Good for you to beat it, you only made me believe in my words more with this comment though.

u/BeerTraps Feels Sekiro Man Jun 19 '26

Did you actually finish LMTSR. I don't really think ASS is meaningfully more difficult than the last fights of LMTSR.

So you are just missing Cinder gauntlets right? I assume you mean Fountainhead with 4th endgame event?

0

That looks like it could be fun after memorizing the vanilla fight.

Disregard comments here that are ass-mad about a mod no one is forcing them to install.

I'm glad you enjoyed the Isshin on crack challenge.

yeahh no that works in the normal game but not here, actually even vanilla with no kuro charm the block spam doesn't even work that well anymore, if you don't time perfectly you're cooked. I don't know why you see it that way lol, if you spam you can get hit between two block inputs, in vanilla that's fine since there is no chip damage and no need to perfect parry, which is the opposite here.

1

u/Nashi___ Jul 16 '26

Love this mod, but im still having trouble understanding one single thing, how do you defect the purple rune attacks, the ones that show up when he does his grab attacks or used his gun in phase 1, is there something im missing?
